We’re trying not to be clichéd and say ‘Ooh la la’…but it’s a tad tricky given all the things to see and do in la belle France. Around 15 million British people holiday in France every year – très sensible – with the smartest types opting for the many campsites and holiday parcs all around the country, from Boulogne to Bordeaux.
Camping in France and looking for ideas? Try the long coastal stretch of Brittany with its beaches, historic towns and watersports; the châteaux and vineyards of the Loire Valley World Heritage Site; hiking, skiing, Roman ruins and medieval castles in the Rhône-Alpes; the four national parks of the Midi-Pyrénées; sampling cheese and Impressionism in Normandy; soaking up the sun on the Côte d’Azur…And then there’s cycling, the cities, skiing, exhibitions, festivals, museums, art galleries and, naturellement, the cuisine: it’s not a French camping holiday if you don’t come back a bit heavier than when you left.
Options abound for campsites and holiday parcs in France: you can take your own caravan or motorhome (or tent and rucksack) across the Channel, or take the easy route and book into a swish spot with mobile homes, caravans or luxury tents for hire. Stay near a city, by the mountains, on the coast, beside a vineyard…it would be rude not to sample the French vineyards…
