General

  • In the middle of the traditional French countryside
  • Many of the pitches overlook the castle
  • Spend quality time relaxing around the heated pool

Camping Le Château de Chanteloup is in the middle of the traditional French countryside, surrounded by a beautifully preserved natural environment which is made up of 22 hectares of meadows, woodland and gardens. Go for a walk or a ride around the park. Go canoeing or fishing in the pond - fishing has always been very popular at Chanteloup with plenty of opportunities for catching roach, tench or carp. The 24-hour du Mans track and museum are only a short drive away.

The large pitches are marked out by trees in the woods and unmarked in the meadows. Many of the pitches overlook the castle where you’ll be welcomed as special guests at you arrival. Spend quality time relaxing around the heated pool while children can play in the paddling pool. A sun lounge is at your disposal, as well as water toys for children.

The campsite is also ideal for those who want to enjoy all kinds of sports including swimming, badminton, ping pong (there are four tables), pool, mountain biking, canoeing and pétanque. A football pitch, two volleyball courts and a basketball hoop are also available. Friendly competitions are regularly held at the campsite.

During high season, the staff of Chanteloup organise a variety of activities such as a kids' club (for children aged five to ten) that runs everyday; sports events and competitions for teenagers and adults every afternoon including water games, fishing, pétanque Olympics and treasure hunts in the forest; regular aperitifs on the terrace and barbecue nights with music and singing; themed buffets including dessert, cheese and wine nights; and the annual Chanteloup Academy which is held at the end of July and whoever wants to perform is welcome.

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

We liked the atmosphere; lots of friendly families (our kids made friends quickly), plenty for kids to do, great facilities and peaceful at night. The restaurant was excellent and the takeaway was an added bonus. With the chateau at the centre, the whole site looks great and everything is well-maintained. It was easy to find and there is plenty to see and do in the area - information about the local area is provided by the site. We were able to access the wifi (some access is provided free before it becomes reasonably priced) from our pitch.

    Disliked:

Our pitch was on a slight slope and the ground was a little uneven, making it a little tricky to balance our table. It was a huge pitch to be honest and many of the others looked great.

Local attractions

The Sarthe and Le Mans are very pleasant tourist destinations because they offer so much to see without the crowds of tourists that flock to larger sites.

Le Mans has the most beautiful Gallo-Roman enclosure of France. The medieval city contains many houses and private mansions from the sixteenth to eighteenth centuries and the cathedral has exceptional stained-glass windows. La Nuit des Chimères is a beautiful light and sound show set in this sublime medieval city. The show is free and normally held in July and August.

The 24-hour du Mans track and museum are a short drive away. And don't forget Ferté-Bernard - known as the Venice of the west or Montmirail - the small city of character. Many other villages such as Asnières-on-Vègre or Le Grand Lucé offer plenty of character while Le Lude has an spectacular castle not to be missed. All are within easy reach from our site. The Châteaux de la Loire is also close by and makes for a perfect day out.

After a bigger city? Paris is only two hours away.

The site clients can enjoy a 50% discount at the Club des Cèdres to play tennis, badminton or squash (and to use the sauna and heated pool) which located a 10-minute drive away. The golf club of Sargé (also just 10 minutes away), is run by an English family and also offers special rates to Chanteloup’s golfers.
