Almost slap-bang in the middle of France and in the middle of the mountain region of Massif Central lies the Limousin, France’s most rural region and 'the land of a thousand lakes’. Angle a first-class French fishing break here: over 2200km of Limousin riverbank is there to fish from with most of it prized salmon and trout territory, and at least a dozen lakes are open for angling all year round.
You might prefer to immerse yourself more fully in France’s Lake District, so bring your togs for a dip in a Limousin bathing lake; wherever you’re camping in Limousin you shouldn’t have far to travel to find a wild swimming spot. Three rivers, the Dordogne, the Vienne and the Charente, crisscross the region for sailing, kayaking and waterskiing.
Away from le water, pick up some porcelain in the Limousin’s administrative capital Limoges, mosey around the Millevaches Regional Nature Park, or take your little pygmies to see the pygmy marmosets and more at Parc du Reynou – have a look at the ‘Local attractions’ tab on each of our Limousin campsites to see what est what.
