There’s certainly a lot to keep you a busy bee at Camping Baroudeurs in Corrèze. This rural site is on the edge of the rural village of Lagraulière, which has several hikes varying from five to 14 kilometres, and is a short drive away from cycling-friendly greenways through lush, green countryside. Don’t miss out on Lac de Bournazel either; it’s only a 10-minute drive away from base, and has a wake park plus other watersports activities.
That’s not all that there is to say about this lovely village locale, either. A shop, bakery, hairdressers, beautician and pub-restaurant are 10 minutes’ walk away from the site, in the centre of the village. Even closer to base – right next to the site, to be precise – is a public swimming pool (open in July and August only, from 3pm to 7pm) with a kids’ paddling pool.
Those who can see themselves sauntering off for a friendly game of tennis or pétanque in between all of their adventures can also head to the courts 200 metres away from the site.
Pick up your groceries from the supermarkets in Seilhac, 10 minutes’ drive away, but perhaps don’t pick up too many. You’ll likely want to save some room in your stomach for a visit to the on-site refreshment point. At lunchtime, it serves traditional cuisine using local products like potatoes, Limousin meat and Pays cheeses, and in the evening, it turns its attention to churning out delicious pizzas. During the high season, there are also two live music evenings per month.

Local attractions
Getting out to scenic walks and villages is nice and easy from Camping Baroudeurs. A particularly well-known spot is the tiny clifftop village of Rocamadour (an hour and 10 minutes’ drive), with its Romanesque-Gothic Basilica. However, you don’t need to drive so far if you don’t want to; Treignac (35 minutes), a medieval village on the river Vézère, is a spectacular spot with a 13th-century bridge.
For a quick, post-lunch stroll, take a short drive to Vallée du brézou (five minutes) and Forêt de Blanchefort (10 minutes) for a light, woodland-style walk. Les Pans de Travassac (25 minutes) will switch up the scenery some more; strolls take the form of guided tours through an old slate quarry with tall cliffs.
There are a couple of towns you will want to keep on your radar, too. First up is Uzerche (15 minutes), once described by English writer Arthur Young as ‘the pearl of the Limousin’. This fortified town on the river Vézère has a restored papermill with a small museum. Second is Arnac-Pompadour (half an hour), a town well known for its castle and for producing the Pompadour horse breed.
