Path through the site

General

  • Peaceful 10-hectare site on the banks of the Seine in Les Andelys
  • A 25-minute drive from Monet's garden at Giverny and 50 from Rouen
  • Pool, playground, fishing lake, bike hire and bar-restaurant

Well, if it's good enough for three kings, that sounds like a fine start, non?

If any royals did indeed happen upon Camping L'Île des Trois Rois they’d surely find the location most pleasing, for this 10-hectare site is in a stunning spot on the banks of the Seine river and a leisurely 10-minute stroll from the shops and restaurants of Les Andelys (eats an easy walk away being a real bonus if you’re wearing velvet robes… or taking the small sorts out for a crêpe).

The good life awaits for all guests here, princely background or not – days on site can be spent fishing/daydreaming by the river or fishing lake, swimming in the heated pool, perfecting your pétanque pitch or playing games of badminton and table tennis. Pint-sized princes and princesses have been given their own castle to play in – a giant inflatable one whose estate covers a decent amount of playground kit too.

In summer, you can source eats and drinks on site at the bar-restaurant, then stick around to strut your stuff at one of the dance evenings. For other foodie demands, you may like to hire a bike on site to pedal up to town; you can also use it for bit of riverside roaming along the scenic cycle path that skirts the side of the Seine.

Please note

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 15/05 and 15/09 (subject to weather conditions).

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Just returned home after a week with family and will definitely return to this lovely site!!
Relaxing by the river Seine's edge with son, partner and grandson's 1yr & 13 in the evenings watching boats / barges going by was entertaining and oh so relaxing!!
My husband and I had a motorhome whilst my son and family had a touring caravan. We booked a riverside pitch next to each other.
The receptionist was extremely helpful and spoke excellent English much to my delight, as I was so lazy at school and wished I had paid attention during French lessons!! Our pitch was still occupied by it's current tenants when we arrived, and were nowhere to be found! This wasn't a fault of the owners and we quite happily took the pitch on the other side of our son when it was offered.
Much to our delight - it worked to our advantage as the river view was so much better!!
Bouncy castles, outdoor swimming pool and paddling pool kept both children entertained. The bar area kept my husband and son entertained!! They served local beer on draught and the snacks and pizza was very tasty!
There was also a very tempting cocktail list with both alcohol and non alcoholic cocktails much to my grandsons delight!
My grandson and I cycled around the site on a number of evenings just to cool down! We were in the midst of the current heatwave that had engulfed us all so the cooling but warm rain that came two days before our departure was so welcome!!
Showers and toilets were clean and with the current situation with Covid19 there was hand sanitiser and hand wash available.
The small village of Les Andleys was approx 15 min walk along by the river which was also a safe cycle route. Another 15 minute walk from the village took us to a small hypermarket, patisserie and pharmacy.
The site was well maintained and clean and I give it a 5* rating - not the the 3* it currently has.

    Disliked:

... not being able to control the shower temperature was the only dislike for my poor husband - as he wanted a cool shower after setting up camp. Not a complaint as we all like a hot shower don't we?

We’ve just returned to the UK after tentatively dipping our feet into COVID19 period foreign travel. This stay happened to be sandwiched imbetween 2 less successful or safe feeling locations.

From the minute we arrived to when we left we couldn’t feel more welcome. The pitches are large and we were found one as shaded as possible as it was so hot. The pool and service at the Restaurant bar were both excellent and the riverside walk in to the local village short but beautiful. The area, views and surroundings are all excellent. We hope to return again and are very happy we extended our stay while there.

Staff at the clubhouse are very friendly, helpful and great with kids.

Nice play park, inflatable football pitch and bouncy Castles.

Swimming pools were great and the toilet facilities were always clean.

Location is perfect with just a short walk into town along the river bank, the views from the Chateau are amazing and well worth the walk!

A visit to L'e Instant Gourmand Patisserie in Les Andelys is recommended for great coffee and croissants (also has a supermarket next door)

Pizza at the Campsite is very nice but I highly recommend an Italian restaurant just a short walk away called Casa Lippi - very authentic, brilliant owner and a great experience.

You don't get much leeway with the language barrier which is a challenge I enjoy, we are in France after all! Will be practicing more for our next tour.

Will definitely be going back next year.

    Disliked:

Lacked some structure at the clubhouse of what food and drink is available lunch times. If they had a clear menu/poster on each table they would sell a lot more.

I'm sure this is just because of the current situation regarding indoor spaces and will sort itself out.

Local attractions

If in any doubt about the top local attraction, look up: Château Gaillard towers over the place from 90 metres up, as it has since the late 12th century. It's all in ruins now, but very much worth the hike up for some splendid views over the Seine. There are several more handsome historic buildings around town if you fancy taking a tour, and the World War II-themed Musée De Tosny is a five-minute drive away on the other side of the river.

History’s seen a long list of famed names come this way for artistic inspiration – if you're in need of a little of that, plot a course for Lyons-la-Forêt (25 minutes' drive), a pretty little village that’s provided fodder for Renoir’s paintings and Ravel’s music. Anyone who’s ever admired Monet’s paintings of water lilies won’t want to miss a trip to Giverny (25 minutes) to see the gorgeous gardens in real life.

Vernon (20 minutes) and Rouen (50 minutes) are also worth a trip for those that can't get enough of the history of the hereabouts. Should the nippers be tiring of such outings, venture to Val-de-Reuil (half an hour) for a zoo, an indoor play park and a lake with beach and watersports centre.
