General

  • Peaceful woodland site in the Boucles de la Seine Normande Natural Reg
  • Within walking distance of Jumièges and its famed abbey
  • Heated pool, snack bar, playground and free campervan service area

Verily, this is a rightly pretty tree-lined site. Traditional family park Camping de la Forêt in Lower Normandy is deep in a Seine-Maritime forest, surrounded by greenery, and viewsomely slap bang in the Boucles de la Seine Normande Natural Regional Park: try saying that after a Normandy Calvados or two...

The forest is that of Jumièges, the woody expanse of Jumièges town, among quiet countryside in a meander of the Seine. The Seine valley, Normandy coast and flat colourful countryside for hiking, biking and horse riding are among your many outdoor options in the area; townwise, spectacular Rouen, a designated Town of Art and History, is 40 minutes' drive away, and the harbour town of Honfleur reachable in just over an hour.

Camping de la Forêt is a friendly, peaceful and well-maintained place, with loads of space to wander or play. Its spotless amenities include individual shower cabins; a launderette with washing machine and tumble dryer; bike and electric bike hire; high chair, cot and baby bathtub hire. And if you get confuddled by your campervan or it needs some care and attention, a campervan service area is available for free use by site guests.

For more leisurely days, there's a swish heated pool with two waterslides for you and the sprogs to spend most of your time at, and an outdoor fitness area so you can keep your ripped physique in tiptop condition. Ping pong tables, tennis and a roomy playground should keep all ages occupied out of doors too.

The bar is open all day for snacks, ice cream and cold drinks, and a small grocery shop sells produce from Jumièges and the region. Bread and pastries can be picked up in the morning if you order them the night before.

A bakery, shops and restaurants are at the local village, around 400 metres away; a big supermarket is within four kilometres.

Hmmm I put mature couple! Hovered over young couple as we feel young at 50! ;)
We liked the loos, they were clean, ergonomic design, everything we needed was there. We liked the showers, perfect design, stuff stayed dry, 12 seconds push buttons all very good ta.
We liked the huge pitches, palatial they were. We had our own little corner of France, plenty of room for everything that we wanted to pitch.
We liked the burger bar, bloody lovely home made burger and chips, the guy selling them was an absolute gent, very helpful and friendly.
We liked the multi cultural setting, loved sitting outside our tent surrounded by Germans, French, Dutch and English. The laughter and jollity just spread around in waves.
We liked the village, enough bars, cafes etc, not too busy, not too quiet.
We liked the bread ordering, always perfect on campsites, the pain au chocolate were the best ones we have had yet.
Pretty good all round to be honest. No complaints from us. Many thanks for a fab stay.

Lovely clean site with lots of privacy, each plot was surrounded by hedges. Had a fully serviced pitch which was brilliant! Very friendly English speaking staff. Pools were good, not busy and very clean! Nice play areas for the kids and even an outside 'gym'. Facilities were good and very clean. On site shop sold all the essentials. Lovely local town within 5 mins walk with bars, restaurants and a beautiful ruined abbey. Supermarket within easy drive.

    Disliked:

Not really a dislike but the electric point for our plot was quite a way away from the plot so bring a long lead (20m). Ours reached fine but just check.

Local attractions

Local town Jumièges is most famed for its abbey, hailed by Mr Victor Hugo as 'the most beautiful ruins in France' (nothing miserable about his trip there, then). An abbey of some sort has stood here since the seventh century, in a pretty parkland setting above the Seine; in a later incarnation, the abbey was consecrated in the presence of William the Conqueror.

Active souls have plenty to pick from in this calm and green region too, from teeing off at one of the many golf courses in the area to exploring the plentiful hiking paths and cycling trails. A treetop adventure park a few kilometres away.

Heading towards the Normandy coast (you really should), about an hour and a half will take you to Cabourg, on the Côte Fleurie and the coast of the English Channel. This swish town has been a popular Normandy seaside resort since the middle of the 19th century (and also has a writerly connection, as the oft-incomprehensible Marcel Proust was a fan of the sands here). Cabourg is famed these days for its art galleries and racecourse, casino and annual Romantic Film Festival: do go see.

The handsome harbour town of Honfleur, with port painted by Monet, Courbet and others, is just over an hour away: do go see that aussi.
