Pitches in the sun

General

  • Two miles from the beach at Bexhill-on-Sea
  • Family-friendly site with indoor and outdoor play areas
  • Within easy reach of the historic sites of 1066 Country

Ditch the wheels and settle down for a Sussex seaside and heritage stay at award-winning and colourful Chestnut Meadow Camping & Caravan Park, on the outskirts of the seaside town of Bexhill-on-Sea. A bus stop is right in front of the site so you can get around without having to drive: the beach is a couple of miles away.

Chestnut Meadow is in the historic part of green and pleasant England known as 1066 Country, so called after the 11th-century Battle of Hastings and the introduction of Norman rule into the land (if these facts make the kids yawn, they'll probably be gorily interested instead in how Harold died). Battle Abbey, Herstmonceux Castle and Bodiam Castle are nearby to explore the area's history, all reachable via local cycle routes.

A family-friendly site, Chestnut Meadow has a playground, a games hall, plenty of room to play, and a modern, heated shower block including a parent and baby washroom. There's also free wifi, a small shop and a launderette.

A range of eco-friendly initiatives have been introduced on site, including recycling points, wildlife areas and the use of recycled materials where possible.

We liked everything about this site , super fully serviced large pitch , excellent free WiFi , plenty of grassy areas to walk the dog , the shower / tiolet facilities were excellent, covid precautions were excellent hand sanitizer was plentiful , friendly staff at reception
Bexill on sea was very nice and it was about a mile to walk along the promenade to Hastings Pier which allowed us to take the dog on unlike Brighton Pier , even if we carried her she is a tiny dog and I could have put her in my handbag

    Disliked:

The site did not live up to the glossy adverts on the internet. There was no mention that the cafe was not open, the games room was not open. yet no offer of a reduction.
The WiFi was virtually non-existent even though our pitch was only 25 yards from the antenna.
The site itself was very lumpy, I would not have liked to be in a tent there.
Lastly the staff were not at all gracious on the few occasions I interacted with them.

Hope that other people have a better experience than us but we will not be returning anytime soon

A friendly warm welcome on arrival by the reception staff. The pitch was a good size. Toilet/shower facilities were kept very clean. They were closed often throughout the day for half hour to ensure this.

    Disliked:

The WiFi didn't work in our corner of the field. The pole near to us apparently had a problem. I was told by a member of staff that I wasn't the first to report it. The cafe was closed throughout our time there, although we were not made aware of this when booking. The games room was also closed, although this was understandable due to Covid 19. We did think the charge of £40 a night, was rather extreme for what you got which was basically just a pitch with electric.
We had recently been to another campsite which included the cafe being open, a little bit of entertainment twice a week, a bar and unlimited free access to the large onsite farm zoo with its animals and also rare breeds which you could easily spend all day looking round. This was in August and only cost £32 per night.
