Chestnut Meadow Camping and Caravan Park: Exterior of one of the pods

General

  • Two miles from the beach at Bexhill-on-Sea
  • Family-friendly site with indoor and outdoor play areas
  • Within easy reach of the historic sites of 1066 Country

Ditch the wheels and settle down for a Sussex seaside and heritage stay at award-winning and colourful Chestnut Meadow Camping and Caravan Park, on the outskirts of the seaside town of Bexhill-on-Sea. A bus stop is right in front of the site so you can get around without having to drive: the beach is a couple of miles away.

Chestnut Meadow is in the historic part of green and pleasant England known as 1066 Country, so called after the 11th-century Battle of Hastings and the introduction of Norman rule into the land (if these facts make the kids yawn, they'll probably be gorily interested instead in how Harold died). Battle Abbey, Herstmonceux Castle and Bodiam Castle are nearby to explore the area's history, all reachable via local cycle routes.

A family-friendly site, Chestnut Meadow has a playground, plenty of room to play, and a modern, heated shower block including a parent and baby washroom. There's also a small shop.

A range of eco-friendly initiatives have been introduced on site, including recycling points, wildlife areas and the use of recycled materials where possible.

Lovely and quiet and the overall facilities were modern, nice and clean. Both the restaurant and play areas were closed but that is understandable seeing how quiet things were (it was the weekend of the Queen's funeral so understandable).

    Disliked:

Water in the shower and washing facilities could have been hotter. The grass could do with being cut more frequently as a trip across the site to the facilities produced damp shows. But this was a relatively minor issue to be fair.

beautiful lodge, spacious and well equipped & clean and warm

    Disliked:

I personally would have liked a small table by the beds, a little shelf wasn't enough in this day & age where most people have a phone, kindle etc. As with most places I've stayed there's no hook on the shower room door. Also the recycling dustbins could be labelled for each type of item

Campsite was spacious, level and well equipped with bins emptied regular, plenty of washing up facilities which were kept clean and tidy. Ample lighting around the pitches in the evenings. Toilets and shower rooms cleaned to a very good standard with hot water at all times. Reception staff very helpful and friendly. Cafe offers great meals and snacks and again the staff are lovely. I will definitely be camping here again and have already recommended the site to friends and family.

  • Liked:

Friendly staff, camp site was clean and tidy.

The pitches were huge compared to other sites. Loads of room to fit a large tent, gazebo, car and wind breaks.

Toilets and showers (after cleaning) where high standard and plenty - even for a busy bank holiday weekend.

Shop on site had enough for what you would expect for a camp site.

Cafe on site was really nice and cheap for the quality of food.

Free WiFi - Fair speeds of around 8Mbps most of time (might just need bit more bandwidth during busy periods).

    Disliked:

As it was bank holiday weekend, it was busier than normal (the staff said it was the busiest they had been) which showed as the toilets between cleans quickly fell below standard. This was due to large groups of children playing around in the the toilet and shower blocks but more checking during the day.

Advertised with an indoor play area which was shut as being used to store furniture and mattresses (presume for the new lodges). Would have been handy for the kids on site to have somewhere to hang out as the park might be too small alone for the size of the campsite during busy periods.
