  • Pop-up wild camping on a peaceful family farm near Ulverston
  • A 10-minute drive to Coniston Water; 15 minutes to Windermere
  • Kid- and dog-friendly site with essential facilities provided
Lowick Bridge Campsite has one heck of a location, what with the spectacular mountain and fell views, and it being so close to Coniston Water and Windermere… It’s a fab base for outdoorsy types keen to get up mountains or out on the water in as short a time as possible. This back-to-basics site is also a great stopover for long-distance hikers, as the Cumbria Way starts just 15 minutes’ drive away in Ulverston. You can get out onto footpaths and cycling tracks right from the pitches. Although, if you’re after a lazy day doing nothing much except admiring those views, there’s plenty of space around the secluded pitches for dogs (please keep them on a lead) and kids to roam safely, and with a fence and hedge circling the campsite, you don't have to too be worried about the kids straying too far. There’s lot to do en famille off-site too, with a zoo, steam railway and watersports all less than half an hour away. You should most of what you need for everyday within less than a 10-minute drive from here. A traditional local pub – all exposed beams and roaring log fires – is within a five-minute stroll, and serves comforting pub grub and well as cask ales. Another pub sits 20 minutes' walk away down the road, and is popular for its food and drink, outdoor pizza oven and live bands – try to book in advance. In riverside Greenodd (10 minutes' drive), you can source barbecue bits from the butcher, treat the family to fish and chips or pick up fresh loaves and takeout pizza from the bakery. There's also a pub 20 minutes' walk from the site, which runs a community art project with workshop events here and there and drop-in pottery. It has a woodfired pizza and music night on Thursdays.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Campsite was great plenty of space with the site having 2 fields, toilets on site and washing up facilities. Site also had a games bucket which was a nice addition, Tim the runner of the site couldn’t of been more help full cam round at least twice a day to make sure very thing was okay and offering fire wood, location was perfect with a pub within walking distance and Coniston water only a 10-15 minute drive. We could recommend this campsite enough, especially for single sex groups.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike at all. If you wanted to be ridiculously picky the one thing was that the grass wasn’t cut but let’s be honest that doesn’t matter.

Liked: Lovely site surrounded by dry stone walls. Impeccably clean toilets, friendly site owner. Excellent location.

Disliked: Just worth bearing in mind that there is only cold water to wash up.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Good location - close to Coniston. Portaloos were kept hygenic & clean over the weekend

Disliked: A group of lads were camping nearby, playing music till 4am, blowing aerosol onto the campfire & driving the car across the campsite at 3am. Whilst this isn’t the campsite owners fault, a check up in early evening could’ve prevented this behaviour continuing until 4am. Also a no noise policy overnight should be in place (like it is with most campsites), as playing loud music & shouting until 4am is a joke when trying to have a relaxing weekend and good sleep after hiking

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: We had an amazing 2 nights here. Our first camping trip with a 2 year old and 6 year old and couldn’t have gone better. Plenty of space for the kids to in around and play games. Tim was just lovely, always keeping facilities clean and checking in. Great location. We paddle boarded on Coniston and then hiked the old man of Coniston. Great location for both! We can’t wait to go back next year.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Clean toilets and washing up facilities.

Disliked: low standard of cliental, groups of lads playing music till early hours and mums with 10 kids screaming all night. very small cramped camp site. booked 2 nights only stayed the 1 night due to the standard of people. grass very overgrown and wouldn’t call it wild camping it was right beside a road. £25 pound a night most i’ve paid for a night and it’s been the worst one i’ve stayed at.
