Grab a spot at Domaine du Lambon and you can expect plenty of lake-based activities right on your doorstep… This Deux-Sèvres site is on the edge of Lake Lambon, so it’s got easy access to walks, fishing and watersports from the nearby activities centre. All of this is within a few minutes’ walk of the site, but there’s plenty more in the local area to keep you busy – it’ll take you about half an hour in the car to reach the ‘Green Venice’ of the Marais Poitevin Regional Natural Park, or an hour or so to get to the coast at La Rochelle or the fantastic theme park Futuroscope. There will be some days when you’re really keen to get out and about, but quite possibly some others when you’d prefer to loaf about on site for a while (well, you are on holiday…). This is a site that’s well set up for those times – you can sunbathe on the lake beach, take a swim at the outdoor pool, take the kids to the spacious play area or head out for a lakeside walk with the dog if you’ve brought one.

Liked: Swimming pool, clean facilities, beautifully maintained generous pitches, nearby walk around lake. Noise mentioned by other reviews is overstated; there was a youth camp onsite, but they were very friendly, polite and well behaved and if anything added a little life to the setting. Will be back for sure for longer next time.

Disliked: Lack of provisions, such as camping basics in a shop or bar.

Liked: Big pitch marked out clearly. Swimming pool and lake short walk.

Disliked: Large group of children on summer camp - noisy and busy pool. Looks like they were settled in for the summer. Reception only open from 4pm - worth knowing when you’re travelling long distance. No shop for even little things - toilet roll not provided. Worth coming prepared, nearest shops 3km away.

Liked: Very friendly staff. Lakeside location is really lovely and tranquil. The camp was quiet when we stayed so it was peaceful. The facilities were clean but not many showers or toilets for a busier site I believe. We were OK as it was very quiet but I could see waiting times being long on other occasions.

Liked: Staff on reception were delightful; could not have been more helpful. Site is great with level grass pitches - lots of space. Good showers. Plenty of hot water. Clean facilities. Lovely location with the lac nearby. We found a snack bar selling burgers, crepes and beer or it would have been slim pickings. Great area for walks and picnics.

Disliked: The site is obviously used extensively for SNU so there are large quantities of youngsters around. Can be a bit noisy early evening but tails off later. Shows a restaurant but that is now only available for the SNU groups so go prepared as there is no restaurant or shop for about 5km.

We only stayed overnight which was adequate.

Local attractions

For scenic outings it has to be the Marais Poitevin Regional Natural Park – this gorgeously green area is about half an hour’s drive away, and its paths and waterways can be explored on foot, on horseback, by bike or in small boats. You’re likely to see lots of native flora and fauna along the way; to be sure of seeing some of the larger beasts, head to Zoodyssey (half an hour’s drive) to meet bison, wolves and lynx among others. The area’s full of history too, and you can taste a small amount of it with visits to the huge Abbaye Royale de Celles-sur-Belle (10 minutes) and the Abbey of Saint-Maixent-l’Ecole (15 minutes), where Gothic and Romanesque styles meet to create something rather splendid. Over in Melle (15 minutes), the Silver Mine of the Frankish Kings is a fascinating place to visit both for its history and its amazing underground rock formations. If you don’t mind venturing a little further, La Rochelle (an hour) is well worth a day trip to stroll around the Old Town, dine by the harbour and visit the aquarium or one of the excellent museums.

Admission

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Dogs

Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
Guide dogs are allowed on site free of charge.
