  • Family-friendly site in a 25-acre pine forest on the edge of Saugues
  • Leisure centre on site for watersports and land-based activities
  • Organic swimming lake, indoor pool, snack bar and playground
You should really be able to make the most of your outdoor time when you stay at Camping de La Seuge – this Haute-Loire site stretches over 25 acres of pine forest and it’s packed with activities to get you out into the open air. Yes, the leisure centre here is a busy one, with water-based activities such as paddleboarding, fishing and waterskiing, as well as land-based ones such as horse riding, guided hikes and tennis. There’s also a fitness trail, a treetop adventure course and a multisports field for various games. Separate from the activity lake is an organic swimming lake, where you’ll be able to take chemical-free swims that don’t result in itchy eyes or skin (extra charge applies for the swimming lake). An indoor pool (with sauna and hammam) is also on hand for damp days. As a firmly family-friendly site, activities and entertainment for all ages run in high season and there are handy facilities including a playground, a snack bar and a picnic/barbecue area. A launderette, a dog park and bathrooms with accessible facilities and a baby changing area are also on site to make sure everyone can be well looked after. With all this open space and outdoor activity on site, it may surprise you to find that you’re on the edge of a town – in fact it’ll take you only about 10 minutes to walk to the centre of Saugues for shops, restaurants and tourist attractions.

Local attractions

Your local town, Saugues, has a good cluster of things to do – you could easily spend a good while touring around between the Gévaudan wool factory, the 23-metre Tour Des Anglais and the Romanesque church, and stopping in at the Fantastic Museum of the Beast of Gevaudan, to learn a bit about the ‘Beast’ that terrorised the population in the 18th century. All of these attractions are within a 10-minute walk. Looking a little further afield, you can step back in time at the Montchauvet archaeological site (25 minutes), an abandoned medieval village in the woods, or Château d’Esplantas (five minutes), with parts dating back to the 13th century. Coming a little further forward in history, the Resistance Museum of Mont Mouchet (25 minutes) tells the story of the local area’s role in World War II. Back in the present day, there are big beasts to spot on the guided tours at Reserve Bisons Margeride Europe (half an hour).
