General

  • Lakeside site in rural Essex; with watersports and terrace café
  • Waterskiing and banana boat rides; playground and picnic areas
  • 30 mins from Dedham Vale AONB and Clacton beach

Laze by the lake or launch yourself on the water. Options aplenty at this luscious leisure park.

Gosfield Lake Resort is a private, family-run leisure park in rural Essex. It's surrounded by fields and woods and set up for families to enjoy themselves in the outdoors. In the evenings, as the sun sets over the 68-acre lake a fabulous array of bird life can be seen feeding and settling down for the night. Who needs a tv?

They keep it relatively simple on the site; there's a laundry, washing-up area, loos and hot showers, just what you need and minimum fuss. If you're staying with kids you'll appreciate the playground and sand-pit and the parent-child washrooms. You're welcome to barbecue your bangers (as long as barbecues are off the ground and you don't harm the grass) at the many lakeside picnic spots and there's also a handsome menu on offer in the on-site café, overlooking the water.

It's up to you how much you want to do here, and how fast. Gaze at the changing light on the water over a long summer picnic, or take a stroll around the lake. Head onto it for more active thrills, like waterskiing and banana boat rides (book ahead, everyone wants a go).

Please note

Facilities/activities including Water-sking and banana rides are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Group bookings of 4 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Single-sex bookings of 4 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Views of lake and church nearby. Hiking routes.
Quiet apart from water skiing (not an issue).

    Cleanliness of bathrooms.

From the manager...

Thank-you for your review, our bathrooms are cleaned daily, but obviously they are only as clean as the people who used them before you. I will put a monitoring system in place to hopefully combat this issue.
Hope to see you again.
Kind regards
Linda

Local attractions

The village of Halstead is a five-minute drive away; a pretty spot with a couple of fine old pubs (and grub) and supermarkets for stocking up. Just outside the village, Broaks Wood is a fab 62-acre ancient woodland site that's been around since the last Ice Age. Wander the trails spotting wild flowers, bats and newts.

You're well placed to link up with the Essex Way for bigger walks. It stretches from Epping Forest to the coast at Harwich but you're under no obligation to do the lot. Walkable sections give you a flavour of what this cracking good eastern county has to offer, from thick forests to river valleys, old churchyards and leafy lanes. Between the villages of Bures (30 mins) and Manningtree (50 minutes) you'll also find the Dedham Vale, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty along the banks of the river Stour. There are excellent bike trails and footpaths through the area, and at every turn a scene that Constable could have painted.

For a contrast to all that rural peace, head half an hour to Clacton-upon-Sea for traditional beach side laughs. Jellied eels on the pier, rides on the funfair, poking round the rock pools with a net on a stick; it's full of simple seaside pleasures that never lose their appeal.
