  • Family-friendly holiday homes four miles from Hailsham
  • A 20-minute drive from Eastbourne and 35 minutes from Brighton
  • Private hot tubs; shop outside the park and country pubs nearby
Walks over wild Beachy Head, hikes in the sublime South Downs and seaside scenes in Brighton… simples – take up all three east Sussex activities from Golden Cross Holiday Park. Four miles from Hailsham, this site’s holiday homes are a splendid place for luxurious breaks taking in historic towns, pretty little villages, wild or busy beaches and activities like hiking, watersports, sailing, fishing and golfing. The cherry on top? All the luxury homes here have a decking with a private hot tub, so no matter how far you go wandering off, you’ve always got bubbles to look forward to when you’re back. That makes Golden Cross Holiday a splendid romantic hideaway. Don’t be fooled, though, families are also well-situated here, given that attractions like Drusillas Zoo Park (15 minutes’ drive) aren’t far off. There aren’t any facilities on the site itself, but a two-step to the road outside will get you to a small food shop for the odd essentials and a bus stop into Hailsham (it takes 20 minutes). That’s your top spot for major supermarkets, restaurants with varied cuisines and a few outlets that have a delivery service to Golden Cross Holiday Park. If you find yourself craving some filling country pub grub (think fine food, local ales and live music), there’s a selection of such venues within 10 minutes’ drive of the site. All that fine fodder will come in handy for fuelling your adventures, for sure. These could include fishing on local lakes (five minutes’ drive), hikes over the cliffs at Beachy Head (half an hour) or making your way over the chalk hills in the South Downs National Park (from 10 minutes). The East Sussex National Hotel (10 minutes) also has a championship golf course, swimming pool and spa for lazy days.

Local attractions

Friendly staff at Golden Cross Holiday Park will be happy to point you towards all the east Sussex sights you please, but to get a headstart on working out what’s out there, begin with Eastbourne (20 minutes’ drive). As well as having some excellent shops, you could go for a walk on the prom and pier or hire a kayak or paddleboard for some sweet sea cruising. A cultured evening indeed might be found at Glyndebourne (15 minutes), the local opera house. Other places of interest – which often host events like the races, bonfires, fireworks or air shows – are the Plumpton Racecourse Ltd (half an hour), Lewes (15 minutes), East Hoathly with Halland (five minutes) and the Eastbourne Bandstand (25 minutes). Top bits to see in Brighton (35 minutes) include the amusement piers, aquarium and The Lanes’ boutiques.
