  • Simple pop-up North Yorkshire farm site in the village of Cleasby
  • A 20-minute drive to Barnard Castle; 40 minutes to Durham city centre
  • Easy access from the A1; farm shop and pub five minutes' drive
Getting your fix of rural North Yorkshire scenery and fresh air should be pretty straightforward when you stay at High House Farm Camping – this pop-up campsite is in the tiny village of Cleasby, only a little way off the A1 and between Richmond and Darlington. That makes it a handy spot for an overnight stop on a long journey as well as being a useful base for a break exploring this part of the world. Where might your wanderings take you while you’re staying here? Well, there are plenty of rural areas to explore on foot or by bike, but it’s also easy to visit towns like Richmond (check out its excellent shops and restaurants) or Barnard Castle – and Durham city centre is about 40 minutes’ drive away if you’d like more urban attractions. Sticking to the local area, though, there are several pubs in the villages of Piercebridge, Aldbrough St John and Barton (all within a 10-minute drive). The closest pub is in Stapleton, under five minutes’ drive away; it serves great food. There’s another just under two miles away in Manfield, and has home-cooked food along with local brews; it's under five minutes' drive down one straight road. There’s also a farm shop five minutes’ drive away in Piercebridge for your picnic supplies – or, if you’re going for something of a different approach to food, there’s the Michelin-starred Raby Hunt 10 minutes’ drive away. Another small shop is five minutes' drive away on the edge of Darlington. Back at base, it’s a simple setup with just a handful of pitches in an empty grass field. You’ll need to be fairly self-sufficient, as there are no toilets, showers or other facilities here – but you will get a properly peaceful farm atmosphere with free-range chickens wandering around close to the pitching area.
