There’s a Richard III museum in York. At one point this might not have been of staggering interest to anyone not into their English battles or (allegedly) killer kings, but all has now changed with the 2013 discovery of Richard’s skeleton in a Leicester car park, which we think should make even the kids show a flicker of interest. Take them to the museum to let them ponder on whether Richard was a good un or a bad un, then take full advantage of any flickering interest in history by fitting in York Minster, York Castle Museum and the Jorvik Viking Centre – bonus points if you do all these in one day.
To quell the rebellion, we’ll hastily point out that there are plenty of family activities in and around York too: farms, play centres, York Maze, chocolate tasting and Flamingo Land zoo and theme park for starters – and we suspect York Dungeon may also be a hit.
