With a name like Belle Vista Glamping, you may be expecting something quite pretty to look at while you’re there… and you’re unlikely to be disappointed at this North Yorkshire site, where the pods are set in an attractively landscaped garden for lovely green views all round. It’s all very pretty, but the views are only part of the story here because this is also an excellent location for days out, whether you’re planning city days in York, long walks in the local countryside or visits to attractions like Castle Howard or Flamingo Land Resort. It’s set in the village of Holtby, just off the A166 – a handy road for getting you into York by car or bus. The setup back on site is a fairly simple one – the pods here are provided with sleeping benches only (use them as twins or convert to a kingsize bed) so you’ll need to bring your bedding and towels with you. No need to lug lots of kitchen kit though, as there’s a communal kitchen area and a shared barbecue area for guests to use. Picnic spots and an outdoor dining area are scattered around the site, and there’s also a sturdy bathroom block with four sets of facilities for guests to share.

Liked Loved the free roaming animals and farm shop was very well stocked and reasonably priced. We enjoyed multiple Belle Vista farm shop products during our stay.
Toilet block was basic but clean.
Could hear animals through the night but to be expected when staying on a farm.
Site owners messaged us during storm and were very friendly.

Recommend to friends Visit again

Would happily pay more per night if had showers for campers.

In a small farm setting. Great location for visits into York and surrounding areas.

Disliked Minimal facilities to wash and no showers for campers.
Does have lovely facilities for camping pods on a separate area but only for those clients and not camping

Liked A very secure and lovely site. Friendly staff on hand throughout for any issues (there were non). Toilets kept very clean and well stocked (toilet seat was repaired very quickly when it became loose). Loved the use of a communal fridge for campers.

Disliked WiFi for campers would have been helpful (however, I did not ask any staff about wifi or check if i a password was included in booking details as it wasn't that important to us. I'm sure had i asked, we may have been given details).

Liked Really quiet site on a farm. Laid back owner allowed us to pitch up wherever. There were clean toilets and a farm shop.
My son particularly liked how tame the hens were that came right up to the tent.
Would definitely recommend if wanting to stay just outside York.

Liked Lovely location close enough drive the York city but also located in countryside. The farm setting with animal was especially lovely, especially to wake up to in the morning to chickens.

Tent pitches were nicely spaced around the field, meaning we didn’t hear any neighbours at night. Campsite as a whole felt very safe especially with the gates.

Disliked The bathroom and pot washing facilities were clean but could use updating. The toilets at night with the sensor light turning off made it challenging and with spiders everywhere.

Liked Peaceful location near to York with lots of bridleways and footpaths across the fields. The ‘free range’ chickens, geese and ducks wondering around the campsite also lovely.

Liked Lovely flat pitch. Free ranging animals to keep my granddaughter occupied. Well stocked farm shop. Clean toilets.

Disliked The noisy road, although the traffic noise stopped after 9pm ish.

It’s worth looking into the area around the city as well – kids are likely to love Piglets Adventure Farm and York Maze (both 10 minutes’ drive) or Askham Bryan Wildlife & Conservation Park (15 minutes), while grownups can check out Breezy Knees Gardens (five minutes) or have a flutter at York Racecourse (20 minutes). Looking a little further afield, you may like to get out for a walk in the Howardian Hills National Landscape (20 minutes), explore spectacular Castle Howard (20 minutes) or sample local tipples at Yorkshire Heart Vineyard (35 minutes). Flamingo Land Resort (half an hour) is a popular pick for family days out, with an animal park as well as all the rides and rollercoasters.
