  • Quiet Hampshire site with large grass pitches and easy road access
  • In the Test Valley, less than a mile from Stockbridge town centre
  • Wild-style camping on a low-key farm; firewood for sale on site
Time in the Test Valley is time well spent – this lovely pocket of Hampshire is well-known for its scenery, clear chalk streams and gentle pace of life, making it just the spot for a laidback camping break. Stockbridge View, a quiet site near the Test Valley market town of Stockbridge, is conveniently located just off the A30. This back to basics choice is within easy reach of Winchester (20 minutes' drive), Salisbury (25 minutes), Stonehenge (25 minutes) and Southampton (35 minutes). The pitches here are set over a flat and grassy area that's bordered by trees and hedgerows. You can pitch up wherever you like at this laidback farm spot, and all parts of the site are a few minutes’ walk from good basic amenities like a modern toilet and shower block and a chemical disposal point (please use green fluid). Campfires, barbecues and firepits are welcome here as long as they are lifted well off the grass. Handily, firewood is available to buy if you haven't brought your own fuel. Wood-fired pizzas, kebabs, pub food and a small supermarket are all available less than a mile away in Stockbridge town centre via a quiet bridleway. Please note that there's a clay pigeon shooting range half a mile away and therefore there may be some noise from that heard on site (mainly on Saturdays, but sometimes on other days).

Non-electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Great place to stay, loved the showers, and the little walks through the path down to Stockbridge, me and my parson terrier, I could nearly wear him but failed 😂

Disliked: Nothing to dislike open all year is a bonus as I'm a winter venturer.

Non-electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Great site as only 20minutes travel from home and with local walks to Stockbridge town we loved that we were able to have a bbq and a fire as not many campsites allow that the price was reasonably and had shower and toilet facilities which were a plus.

Disliked: There were a large party of teens that were shouting and swearing running around drunk past 12am and driving there cars like the field was a Rally course which did make me angry as we have young children no concentration for other parties around them I get this probably dosent happen all the time but it did ruin it for us personally, we got the kids settled and was hoping for a relaxing evening in front the fire yet what we got was about 6 young adults being idiots and shouting swearing which woke my children up, there should be somebody who comes around and checks because anybody could turn up during the night if they give there friends the gate code..

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The facilities are spot on new toilet and shower block. Very clean and nicely laid out, the field was soggy and muddy but that is no fault of this camp site rain has been non stop. I would say if you are staying in this area and want to visit Stonehenge etc perfect spot.

Disliked: There is actually nothing.

Local attractions

For greenery and gardens, try Houghton Lodge (five minutes' drive), a small-scale spot dating back to the late 18th century in a gorgeous riverside location. The grounds at Mottisfont (15 minutes), a National Trust-managed house and garden, may be a bit grander in scale, but they're in a relaxed country location and aren't too big for a day out with young kids. This part of the world has lots of military connections, so how about a trip to the Army Flying Museum (10 minutes), or to Winchester (20 minutes) and its regimental collections in Peninsula Square? Inspired to try a bit of target practice yourself? The Spitfire Shoot (five minutes) can sort you with clay pigeon sessions (mostly on Saturdays, but sometimes at other times too). A little bit further away there are world-class attractions like Stonehenge (25 minutes), a must-see when visiting this part of the world, as well as family-focused options like Paultons Park (30 minutes), a theme park, and the interactive exhibits at Milestones Museum in Basingstoke (30 minutes).
