General

  • Family-run site in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
  • Steps away from the beach
  • Pool, sauna and summer restaurant/entertainment

Views, glorious views…the area surrounding St Audries Bay Holiday Club near Minehead is the setting for right Somerset sights: the park is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty at the foot of the Quantock Hills, is on the Somerset coast, close to the beach and has views across the Bristol Channel to Wales: bring your camera.

St Audries Bay has been family-owned and run since 1933 and has picked up a goodly handful of awards along the way, so it’s safe to assume they know what to lay on for guests of all ages whatever the weather: among the options on offer are tennis, boules, fishing, an adventure playground, a pool with sauna (a small extra charge applies for the sauna), and a games room with video games, snooker and pool tables.

Entertainment is laid on during July and August, and restaurant and bar meals, takeaways and tipples are available during these months in the Sundowner bar. Or head off site instead: once you’ve hiked the Quantock Hills, both Bridgwater and Taunton are on the M5 15 miles away and Exmoor National Park is nearby.

Gold David Bellamy Conservation Award

Please note

The indoor swimming pool is open between 01/01 and 31/12.

Outside July and August, the bar and restaurant are open at certain times only: please ask for details on arrival.

    Everything really.
Extremely friendly staff, great location, very quiet, great onsite pub restaurant with non inflated prices unlike most other camp sites very stoney beach but still beautiful, especially the waterfall.

    Disliked:

There isn't anything really but IF I had to nit pick i'd say the toilet facilities may need some updating but were in NO WAY dirty. The actual camp pitches boarders were not very well marked but apart from that there isn't anything else.

The site is very clean and well looked after. The staff very freindly and helpful. The food was good and not over priced.
Not to forget the amazing views.

    Disliked:

Not a dislike but we needs internet on a daily basis and found the charges a little high. Suggest a small addition to the pitch cost,as done with the electricity.

Private beach, friendly staff, clean facilities, location was good and nice restaurant with outside seating.

    Disliked:

No view from pitch, quite expensive and for us personally we prefer wild camping rather than family sites so it just wasn’t quite for us. I would recommend this site for families.

Local attractions

Pick up a safari tour at Dulverton or Dunster to see Exmoor’s wildlife in sit-down style, or take to your feet or wheels to explore the park’s walking and biking routes. Going there by night? Exmoor National Park is the first designated International Dark Sky Reserve in Europe: watch the stars at Haddon Hill or Wimbleball Lake, the first designated Dark Skies Discovery Site on Exmoor.

The country park at Wimbleball is worth hanging around for a day or two too: it’s managed by the South West Lakes Trust and has an activity centre, trout fishery, bike route and nine-mile lake walk.

Minehead nine miles away from St Audries Bay has a couple of record breakers: it’s the starting point of Britain’s longest walking trail, the South West Coast Path, and it has the country’s longest standard gauge heritage railway, West Somerset Railway, starting at its station and running just over 20 miles to Bishops Lydeard.

Weston-super-Mare is also within easy driving distance and has miles of clean beaches, refurbished pier, a SeaQuarium, more donkeys and Britain’s only helicopter museum: give it a whirl.

There are several other Somerset essentials to see within driving distance: cider farms at Taunton and Washford; two vineyards at Bridgwater; the Blackdown Hills to hike after the Quantocks, and famous Glastonbury and its abbey about 40 minutes’ drive away.

Must see

  • Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (18.2 miles)
  • Millennium Stadium (21.1 miles)
  • The Cardiff Story (opens April 1st 2011) (21.2 miles)

National Trust

  • Coleridge Cottage (5.2 miles)
  • Dunster Castle (7.6 miles)
