St Audries Bay Holiday Club: Pitches

General

  • Family-run site in Quantock Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
  • Steps away from the beach; close to walks on the coast path
  • Swimming pool, tennis and boules on site

Views, glorious views… the area surrounding award-winning St Audries Bay Holiday Club near Minehead is the setting for splendid Somerset sights. The park is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty at the foot of the Quantock Hills, it's close to the beach on the Somerset coast and has views across the Bristol Channel to Wales: bring your camera.

That setting is a most handy one for getting out and about too: hikers can head up into the Quantock Hills, get out onto the South West Coast Path (just a few hundred metres away) or expand their horizons to the nearby Exmoor National Park. Both Bridgwater and Taunton are on the M5 15 miles away, and you can hit the sands of Minehead with a drive of about 25 minutes.

St Audries Bay has been family-owned and run since 1933 and has picked up a goodly handful of awards along the way, so it’s safe to assume they know what to lay on for guests of all ages whatever the weather: among the options on offer are tennis, boules, fishing, an adventure playground and a swimming pool.

Nice site with more positives than negatives.09/19/2021

Nicely laid out level touring plots, 1/2 stone, 1/2 grass with easy access. Large enough to be separate from you neighbours, but small enough to be friendly as well. A view of the sea from all plots.
Modern and very clean toilet and shower block with hot water and no time limit on the shower, all very civilised.
The dog shower was brilliant and appreciated. The beach is part stone, part sand, part mud, and guess which bit our dog liked best?
Reasonable supplies for campers in both Williton and Watchet in the form of a Coop, Chinese, Indian, fish and chip shop, fuel etc with all modern town facilities at Minehead.
On site laundry could have been useful, although we had no reason to use it for a 7 night stay.

    Disliked:

The bar and restaurant remained closed during our stay "due to Covid", which was a shame because everywhere else was open and trading by this time. There was a mobile bar and catering van on site for some of the evenings and we were lucky that the weather was good so we could sit out, but if it had been wet, it would have been a different tale.
The showers were very clean, but the shower heads/flow of water was a bit pathetic.
We stayed at the end of the season so perhaps the site wasn't at its best but it did look a little neglected, perhaps due to Covid issues. Nothing major, just things like hedges that were overgrown, peeling paint/untreated fences, weeds growing through the paved areas etc
This isnt a "liked" or "disliked" really just a comment. The site is quite remote, check it out carefully on a map or Google earth, and the walk up to the road very steep plus when you get to the road, there is no path. Wherever you go really has to be by car.
Didn't like wifi that you have to pay for, and the 3 signal was inconsistent.

From the manager...

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed review, we have passed all of your comments onto the team, we hope you'll come and see us again 😊

The burger van. The food was the best outdoor food I've tasted. The view

    Disliked:

Everything else. The pitch was a mudfest every other was nice grass. Cos of corona restrictions absolutely nothing on site open. Nothing. Felt trapped. What a waste of money and time

From the manager...

We are so sad to see your review and would like to address some of your points.
All of our pitches have hardstanding's as well as an optional grassed awning area that may become wet/muddy if used in wet weather. We would also like to point out that only our bar/restaurant have remained closed this season due to the on going effect of the pandemic, as you have mentioned we instead provided very popular outside food and bar facilities. Our other facilities including Reception, Gift Shop, Swimming Pool, Games Room, Snooker Room, Shower Block, Laundry, Ballroom and Salon are all open for guests to enjoy and were open during your stay.
We're sorry that St Audries was not for you.

Local attractions

Pick up a safari tour at Dulverton or Dunster to see Exmoor’s wildlife in sit-down style, or take to your feet or wheels to explore the park’s walking and biking routes. Going there by night? Exmoor National Park is the first designated International Dark Sky Reserve in Europe: watch the stars at Haddon Hill or Wimbleball Lake, the first designated Dark Skies Discovery Site on Exmoor.

The country park at Wimbleball is worth hanging around for a day or two too: it’s managed by the South West Lakes Trust and has an activity centre, trout fishery, bike route and nine-mile lake walk.

Minehead, nine miles away from St Audries Bay, has a couple of record breakers: it’s the starting point of Britain’s longest walking trail, the South West Coast Path, and it has the country’s longest standard-gauge heritage railway, West Somerset Railway, starting at its station and running just over 20 miles to Bishops Lydeard.

Weston-super-Mare is also within easy driving distance and has miles of clean beaches, a refurbished pier, a SeaQuarium, more donkeys and Britain’s only helicopter museum: give it a whirl.

There are several other Somerset essentials to see within driving distance: cider farms at Taunton and Washford, two vineyards at Bridgwater, the Blackdown Hills to hike after the Quantocks, and famous Glastonbury and its abbey about 40 minutes’ drive away.

Must see

  • Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (29.2 kilometres)
  • Millennium Stadium (33.9 kilometres)
  • The Cardiff Story (opens April 1st 2011) (34.1 kilometres)

National Trust

  • Coleridge Cottage (8.4 kilometres)
  • Dunster Castle (12.2 kilometres)
