  • Peaceful site in the Lincolnshire Wolds with a historic watermill
  • A mile from Hagworthingham; Skegness and the coast 25 minutes' drive
  • On-site bar; café and two pubs within five minutes' drive
For a bucolic break in the grounds of an 18th-century property, head to Stockwith Mill, a peaceful campsite on the southern edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This handful of spacious grass pitches is within a short walk of Stockwith Mill, a non-operational water-driven corn mill whose pretty water wheel still sits directly on the river Lymn. There's been a mill here since at least Norman times, as the place was listed in the 1086 Domesday Book. As you might expect from such a historic spot, the surrounding area is crisscrossed with longstanding footpaths and rights of way, making it easy to get out and explore the many pretty parts of the surrounding countryside. Facilities here include fresh drinking water; there is also an on-site bar that is open on Thursdays and Fridays for refreshments. If you're not here when the bar is open, or if you fancy a meal out, you can head just over a mile down the road into the village of Hagworthingham, where two pubs and a café are available. For shops, restaurants and supermarkets, meanwhile, you have all the amenities you could want in Spilsby (10 minutes), a nearby market town.

Local attractions

The sandy beaches of the east coast stretching from Mablethorpe to Skegness are about 25 minutes from Stockwith Mill by car, so you can be sure of plenty of time by the seaside if that's the reason you opted for a break in Lincolnshire. As well as the big resorts with their bustling arcades and bright lights, there are smaller spots worth exploring here, including the string of nature reserves and seal colonies that stretches between Mablethorpe and Cleethorpes. Inland, to the east, you can reach the city of Lincoln in 45 minutes, where the stunning cathedral and castle are well worth a visit. The city centre is also home to the popular Brayford Waterfront, England's oldest inland harbour where you can relax by the water in a wide range of cafés, bars and restaurants. There are also lots of walks and bike rides to enjoy in the surrounding south Lincolnshire countryside – take a stroll between the villages of Fulletby and Tetford (10 minutes) along the Viking Way, wander around the Civil War battlefield at Winceby (10 minutes) or visit Bolingbroke Castle (10 minutes), the ruined 13th-century fortress where King Henry IV was born.

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: This is a very basic site a field with water tap nothing else, nice and quiet. Being a Fri the dog friendly bar was open (only night it opens) and there was a food van. I think they plan to open more in the summer. If so this could be a very nice stay The site entrance has a sign that just says Car Park but this is also site entrance and it's either just over the bridge after the Mill or just before bridge and Mill. Don't turn into the Mill like I did. I wasn't sure how soft the ground would be as there had been lots of rain but my 3.8 tons of motorhome didn't sink at all so ground is firm. The ground is a little uneven but got level without much effort. Be aware if you stay with children obviously there is water but there are some pools at far end of site which are a little hidden

Disliked: If site had a chemical disposal point I would have stopped longer

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Peaceful setting, convenience of access from main nearby A road. Easy and responsive booking, pitching, payment all done "contactless" on line. Welcoming informative email with clear directions and periodic adjacent mill event details.

Disliked: Would like to see some chemical disposal provision to support longer overnight stays. Undulating grassed terrain could cause problems with skidding in wet conditions - not conducive to most front wheel drive motorhomes!
