‘There was immense jubilation,’ wrote DH Lawrence in Sons and Lovers about the Morel family’s masterly decision to spend their holiday in the Lincolnshire seaside resort of Mablethorpe. Sadly the Morels wouldn’t have taken part in some of Mablethorpe beach’s most well-known events such as riding the sand train, motorbike sand racing and the annual Bathing Beauties festival, which sounds like an old-style bathing costume contest but which in fact refers to prettified beach huts. There are a few hundred of these between Mablethorpe and Sutton-on-Sea, and the festival has a Beautiful Beach Huts Competition for non-hut owners to coo enviously at. Some day a Mablethorpe beach hut will be ours, all ours…
Away from the beach and the huts – if you must – there’s shedloads of things to do from your Mablethorpe holiday park or campsite, such as Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary, nature reserves, the funfair and Queens Park: for inspiration and info on what to do in the area, see the ‘Local Attractions’ parts of our Mablethorpe listings. You can also filter for Mablethorpe campsites according to leisure on site or nearby, and dozens more options.
