  • Well-maintained and peaceful holiday park near the Lincolnshire Wolds
  • A 15-minute drive to Mablethorpe beach and 20 minutes to Skegness
  • Eco-friendly site with woodland walks and a limited number of pitches
A small, family-run holiday park near Alford, Tall Pines Park is just the spot for a quiet getaway with the kids. It’s set in over four acres of scenic Lincolnshire countryside, including a peaceful woodland area for walks with the family and dogs (you'll just need to keep dogs on a lead at all times). Bordered and shaded by trees and hedges, the site only has a small number of pitches, so you never feel cramped together with the neighbours. Now under the care of Simon and Cheryl, it's been welcoming visitors for over 40 years, and has handy family-centric facilities including coin-operated showers, a washing machine, tumble dryer and washing-up area. The owners also ask that guests make full use of the recycling bins and respect the environment and local wildlife. Tall Pines Park makes an excellent base for exploring Lincolnshire on foot or by bike; the undulating Lincolnshire Wolds are half an hour’s drive away, and there are sand dunes galore to run around on at Mablethorpe beach (15 minutes’ drive). To mix things up a bit, the bright lights of Skegness, its amusement arcades and seafront tea rooms are 20 minutes by car.

Local attractions

If you’re holidaying with kids, this is a mighty fine spot to settle in, for there’s heaps to do round and about. You could start with exploring the seemingly endless east-coast beaches: Mablethorpe (15 minutes’ drive) has lots of dunes for games of hide and seek, plus a long stretch of sand with gentle waves that are safe for taking a dip. As well as its extensive beach, Skegness (20 minutes) is the place for amusement arcades, pier walks and fun rides at the Pleasure Beach. Back inland, Radcliffe Donkey Sanctuary (five minutes) is a handy place to introduce animal-mad youngsters to cuddly donkeys, or head to North Sea Observatory at Chapel Point (10 minutes) to see wild swans and thousands of swallows swooping in summer. Round off a fun-filled day with your offspring by racing around the inflatable climbing courses at Lincolnshire Aquapark (15 minutes). Time for some more adult trips out? Have a poke around the hexagonal remains of 13th-century Bolingbroke Castle (25 minutes), or go shopping for bargains in the antiques emporiums of Louth (half an hour).
