General

  • Dog-friendly site a short walk from Huttoft beach
  • Bus service right outside to the Lincs seaside towns
  • Play area, well-maintained grounds and spotless amenities

A bonzer of a beach awaits within easy driving distance of Country Meadow Caravan Park near Sutton on Sea – and if you’ve brought the pooch with you, he’ll be as happy on this hol as a dog with a bone.

Dog-friendly Huttoft beach aka Moggs Eye comes with miles of sand on which your dog can happily go quite bonkers, while the human types amuse themselves in or near the water: award-winning Huttoft is a clean and safe surfing and sailing spot and a good catch for sea anglers. It’s usually pretty quiet too – a nifty little factoid to remember when the Lincolnshire seaside becomes bustling in the summer months... The beach at Sutton on Sea is about a mile away too along the local footpath.

The quiet family-run campsite at Country Meadow Caravan and Camping Park is also dog-friendly: your canine might also approve of the dog walk nearby, the frequent visits of the local ice-cream van and the takeaway outlets of pizza, Chinese and Indian that deliver direct to the site...

For humans, Country Meadow comes with level grass pitches among meticulously-maintained grounds; amenities (toilet block, showers, laundry and disabled toilet) kept spotlessly shipshape by the site team. Kids are well catered for too with the park play area (look out for the giant boot) and all is kept safe and secure on site with the use of barrier access.

As well as a local dog-friendly beach, a bus to the seaside seems like a jolly good idea too, especially if it goes right past the campsite gate: catch the bus outside Country Meadow to Sutton on Sea and from there to Mablethorpe, Skegness, Ingoldmells and inland to Louth and the Lincolnshire Wolds.

The site is two miles from the town centre of Sutton on Sea, with local shops such as a supermarket, butcher, post office, chip shops and hardware stores.

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

A charge of £0.50 applies for the use of shower.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Converted commercial vehicles must have side and rear windows.

Immaculate. Very clean and tidy. Modern clean facilities block. Level Pitches with plenty of space. Good location for Lincolnshire coast.

    Disliked:

Shower facilities were a little small for trying to wash two small children, but we did manage. Play area well located away from main camping area but could do with some more equipment.

I thought the site was lovely. The couple who ran the site were very friendly and helpful. It was very convienient for the town of Sutton-on-sea,and Mablethorpe. There was a bus stop outside if you needed it.Pitches were a very good size, and toilet and shower block close to where we were parked.Everything was lovely and clean, and pitches all kept tidy, and grass cut.

    Disliked:

My only dislike was that there were not any wash cubicles,my granddaughter doesn't like showers,so she couldn't have a strip wash in private. But that is just a preference not a criticism.

From the manager...

Thank you for visiting us and we are happy that you enjoyed your stay. Sorry to read that your granddaughter does not like showers, if you had said to us we would have suggested that you used the disabled toilet and wash room as this is a single room which would have been private for a strip wash. Many thanks Keith and Caroline.

Local attractions

Close to the coast, Country Meadow Caravan and Camping Park is within easy driving distance from all the main Lincolnshire seaside towns, Mablethorpe a short drive north and Skegness and Ingoldmells to the south.

Mablethorpe is the smallest of the three but still has days’ worth of seaside fare to dip into, such as its award-winning miles of sandy beach and sand train, a funfair, amusement arcades, shopping, and donkey rides (to see more donkeys, Huttoft village is home to the Radcliffe Donkey Sanctuary on Church Lane).

From the beach, shuffle over the dunes to get to the Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary, one of the most beloved attractions in the area for its resident seals, dinosaur display and other dwellers like barn owls and badgers.

Skegness has another seal sanctuary, Natureland – here there be penguins and tarantulas and may more creatures alongside the seals – and the Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve ten minutes’ drive south to see many natives in the wild.

Like a lot of Lincolnshire and the coast surrounding Country Meadow, birds are abundant here: use the reserve’s network of paths around the dunes, marshes and lagoons to see wading birds, wildfowl and possibly some seals out at sea from the north of the reserve.

And then to Ingoldmells, home of theme park Fantasy Island and Europe’s longest looping rollercoaster… It’s also the home of (to us, just as thrilling), a mammoth seven-day indoor market to buy the best of bargains; if the dog gets bored, mollify him with a leg stretch along Ingoldmells beach, also dog-friendly.

Ingoldmells, Skegness and Mablethorpe all have bargain stores for bargain hunters, but for the best delving into low-priced delights, take a trip around one of the area’s many car boot sales at all three towns and in Gainsborough, Louth, Horncastle or Hornbeach.

All three towns and the beach at Huttoft have some spectacular sea and coarse fishing available too: try Skegness Pier as a starter in summer to catch sole, bass and mackerel.
