Country Meadow Caravan Park: Space around the pitches

General

  • Dog-friendly site three miles from Huttoft beach
  • Bus service right outside to the Lincolnshire seaside towns
  • Play area, well-maintained grounds and spotless amenities

A bonzer beach awaits within easy driving distance of Country Meadow Caravan Park, near Sutton on Sea – and if you’ve brought the pooch with you, they’ll be as happy on this hol as, well… a dog with a bone.

Dog-friendly Huttoft beach (aka Moggs Eye), under three miles away, has miles of sand on which your dog can happily go quite bonkers, while the humans amuse themselves in or near the water: this award-winning sandy stretch is a safe surfing and sailing spot and a good catch for sea anglers. It’s usually pretty quiet too – a nifty little factoid to remember when the Lincolnshire seaside bustles in the summer months.

Quiet family-run Country Meadow Caravan Park is also dog-friendly: canines might also approve of the dog walk nearby, the frequent visits of the ice-cream van and the takeaway outlets that deliver direct to the site…

For humans, Country Meadow has level grass pitches among meticulously-maintained grounds; amenities (toilet block, showers, laundry and disabled toilet) are kept spotlessly shipshape. Kids are catered for with a play area and all is kept safe and secure on site with the use of barrier access.

A bus to the seaside seems like a jolly good idea too, especially if it goes right past the site: catch the bus outside Country Meadow to Sutton on Sea and from there to Mablethorpe, Skegness, Ingoldmells and inland to Louth and the Lincolnshire Wolds.

The site is two miles from Sutton on Sea's town centre for local shops, pubs and seaside chippies.

    Disliked:

Owners very ignorant from arriving not even a welcoming smile just its £10 EXTRA FOR TOLL KEY, so many rules we are mature adults we know how to behave, (it may be your business but its OUR holiday), its 50p extra every time you wanted a shower, toilets/showers only allowed limited time otherwise it portaloo, dogs allowed at extra fee but must not be seen or heard, the icing on the cake I explained my husband had a heart complait when arriving and was a lot slower with setting up/packing up caravan but when he went to say thankyou and hand keys in all owner said was your late booking out. We both work hard at our jobs too but if its too much for them why run a caravan park. We WILL NOT be returning or recommending you to anyone. 🙁

From the manager...

You clearly didn't read the booking form as it tells you about arrival & departure times. Also about the number and cost for dogs (you didn't even book your dog in on the booking form), the barrier deposit, the price for showers. You were told on arrival that the toilets are closed from 10pm until 8.30am as we spray them with a virucidal/bactericidal disinfectant to control Coronavirus and Norovirus. Sorry if trying to keep customers safe is an inconvenience to you (thought you would appreciate this as your husbands health is so poor). You were greeted with a friendly and polite welcome (sorry if we did not stand there smiling like something demented) and we explained everything to you. Every customer is given a copy of the site rules which are basic common sense reminders like, don't walk under a raised barrier, lay electric cables so they do not cause a trip hazard, avoid walking through occupied pitches, and dog walk area (where you get the dogs seen but not heard bit I don't know as nothing was ever said about your dog only how contented it was sat waiting in the car, but you were not their at that time just your husband) and other common sense things. You only mentioned about your husbands heart condition when parking your caravan on pitch as your friends who you did not inform us off arrived to help you set up. How come if he is so ill they did not return 2 days later to help you take your awning down and pack away. If he is that ill why is he driving a car and even more so towing a caravan. Yes it is our business and if every one left when they felt like it we would not be able to complete our daily duties on time for the next customers when they arrive, hence the arrival and departure times.

The site was very well looked after extremely clean and level pitches , the owners where really helpful and accommodating, I would recommend this park but it is based directly next to a busy road (a52) and there is a lot of traffic at times ,personally I wouldn’t return due to the road but if you don’t mind road noise its a lovely place to stay.

Clean portaloo + (I work on building sites)
Cheap prices but lacking the cheerful.
First time in caravan with grandchildren, they loved it, we know sites can only get better.

    Disliked:

Male owner, abrupt, seemed to dislike children and dogs on his lawn (pitches)
Even though he had dogs and grandchildren. Toilet block closed 12 hours a day (lot excessive 10pm till 8am, use 1 portaloo and then 11am till 1pm for cleaning). On our first morning he opened them at 8am and had cleaning sign out so even at 8.10 I had to use portaloo. Hand washing in portaloo was a bar of soap, between everyone. Not hygienic or covid friendly even though half of wash basins, urinals and toilets closed in toilet block (when you could get in) due to covid. Children playing, rubber chippings in play area, he couldn't understand children would kick and dig in them. Playing football and ball went through a 3 plank fence, still on pitches and horrified a 6 year old climbed over for his ball. At 8.30 one evening as he closed play area he was behind our caravan and awning checking something! We were at back with fence and road behind us. Children's play area at back of site next to pedestrian Gate leading onto A52?

From the manager...

In response to this comment.
The toilets are closed from 10:00pm until 8:30am. During this period they are sprayed with a concentrated virucidal/bactericidal disinfectant for the control of coronavirus & norovirus. Then in the morning the surfaces are wiped over to remove any residue. I don't know how many hours a day or days a week you work but I start at 8:00am & finish at about 11:00pm 7 days a week. Caravans & motorhomes have their own on-board facilities & no other customer has found this to be a problem. The cleaning from 11:00am to 1:00pm is a government regulation where we have to deep clean all surfaces including the walls and leave to air dry before allowing customers to use them.
The rubber chippings I regret having, but unfortunately it is a health & safety requirement to have a soft fall surface for play equipment over 600mm high. Parents & guardians are responsible for their children and should discourage them from spreading them around the site, the reason that I was behind your caravan picking up pieces of rubber chippings. If you were the next customer on the pitch & had a dog which tried to digest the chippings & they caused a blockage resulting in a very expensive vet bill how happy would you be. We have to think of all customers present & future human & animal.
The child climbing the fence was told to get down & not to climb the fences, If he had slipped and got a splinter which could have got infected resulting in a very bad outcome. We recently lost a member of our family to sepsis and it makes you realise the dangers of infections from cuts & grazes.

    Nice quiet site

    Disliked:

Needs a bus stop outside the site this would benefit motor home users, we were advised that if you requested it the bus would stop for you. However it refused to stop & pick us up and the nearest bus stop is approx 2miles away. We did tell the site owners and they reported it to the bus company.

From the manager...

The bus stop situation has now been sorted out. As I mentioned I had reported it to the bus company. The Manager came back to me the day you left after being told it would be 7 working days. The Manager came out to see why the buses were not stopping. He said there was no reason why they were not stopping. He has now told the drivers it is a designated pick up and drop off point. He said he is going to put some flags by the designated spots. We apologise again for any inconvenience this caused you.

Local attractions

Country Meadow Caravan Park is within easy driving distance from the main Lincolnshire seaside towns (Skegness, Ingoldmells and Mablethorpe). Mablethorpe is the smallest of the three but still has days’ worth of seaside fare to dip into, such as its award-winning miles of sandy beach and sand train, a funfair and donkey rides (to see more donkeys, Huttoft is home to the Radcliffe Donkey Sanctuary).

From the beach, shuffle over the dunes to get to the Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary or head to more seals at Natureland in Skegness – here there be penguins and tarantulas and many more creatures alongside the seals. For their wilder cousins, aim for Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve, 10 minutes’ drive south. Like a lot of the Lincolnshire coast, birds are abundant here: use the reserve’s network of paths around the dunes, marshes and lagoons to see wading birds and wildfowl.

And then to Ingoldmells, home of theme park Fantasy Island and Europe’s longest looping rollercoaster… It’s also the home of a mammoth seven-day indoor market to buy the best bargains; if the dog gets bored, mollify him/her with a leg stretch along Ingoldmells beach, also dog-friendly.
