  • Large family-friendly pitches within 15 minutes' drive of beaches
  • A 15-minute drive to Cadwell Park Circuit; half an hour from Skegness
  • On a regular bus route to Louth, Lincoln and the coast; near the Wolds
Based in the pretty rural village of South Reston near Louth, Holme Lea makes a handy base for exploring the beaches and wolds of lovely Lincolnshire. Welcoming families and (well-behaved) canines, pitches are scattered across a four-acre site that's neatly divided into two well-maintained and level grass paddocks sheltered by high hedges. This is a handy spot to stay in if you want to ditch the car – Holme Lea sits at the foot of the gorgeous Lincolnshire Wolds, with abundant cycle and walking routes to try out. The local village of South Reston is on a main bus route too, so you can catch regular services to Louth and Lincoln, or seaside towns including Mablethorpe (15 minutes’ drive) and Skegness (half an hour). The village also has a popular local pub, which you can walk to in five minutes; as well as serving a decent pint, it has a small essentials shop if you happen to run out of supplies. For those who want to fish, there are also fisheries within five minutes' drive of the site. Simple on-site facilities include a toilet block, emptying point and various drinking water points around the pitches. There's also a shower room (with sink, toilet and shower) available for a small extra charge.

Liked: Great little campsite, owners are so welcoming. Electric is paid via a meter that you top up which is so much better for us as we don’t tend to use a lot. Grounds are great toilets clean

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Great little site. Very laid back, traditional vibe, without lots of unnecessary rules. Fabulous owners, welcoming and friendly. Site has basic facilities, with friendly pub and bus stop less than 10 mins walk. Very relaxed and friendly place to stay in beautiful Lincolnshire countryside.

Disliked: No buses on Sundays. (Not sites fault)

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: I liked nothing about our stay.

Disliked: We booked for a VW style campervan and the site was not suitable for our set up, the weather had made the field boggy so we were unable to drive on and off our pitch. We were forced to stay for the first night of our 2 night stay as it was Easter weekend and we had driven 3 hours to get there so could not go elsewhere so short notice. We got stuck in the mud so could not get our van on to our pitch so had no access to the electric we access this through the van. I asked for a refund for the second night which I thought was fair as we would not be staying. I did not ask for the first night to be refunded even though we were not provided what we had booked for. I was met with abruptness and rudeness, no customer service skills whatsoever, I was also met with excuse after excuse. Such as "others have got on" These individuals were towed on and were static setups not vans that were coming and going. We were accused of shouting past 11pm when we were just 2 women campers not part of the large group that were drinking and shouting until midnight which the owners did nothing about even when they were swearing loudly while young children were trying to sleep! The owners also accused us of being "difficult from the start" if this was the case then surely they could have turned us away? Again, they said it was "our choice" we could have left our van on the hard standing. This was not an option as we have a VW style campervan...... The van IS our camping setup AND our transportation unlike the other guests who had static setups who could then leave vehicles on the hardstanding, but the hosts could not seem to grasp this and continued to blame my wife and I for the decisions we had made. We commented on their Facebook page and posted photos of being stuck in the mud after they had advertised "a good time had by all". We were then accused of taking photos of only "the worst parts!" You can clearly see in the images, we took photos of our stuck van and the only access to the site. When we were eventually towed off site (after waiting over an hour for the privilege, Steve told me he should be charging me another £50 to do so. The owners want to earn as much as possible to do as little as possible for their guests. Upon arrival I needed to use the toilet and had to be shown how to flush it, by putting my hand in the system as the flusher was broken, the toilet door lock was broken and the showers were not working. When we commented about the showers not working on the facebook page, we were told "you never asked about a shower!" I should not have to ask about using a shower when the host advertises they are available on site. Other campers were having to go into the owners house shower. If this is an onsite facility, I should be able to shower when I please, not when it is convenient for the owner for me to shower! The hosts kept stated that "we knew what to expect" as it was a grass pitch at the end of March. I have stayed on grass pitches in December! I expect to get wet and muddy but I have never had issues with getting off and on site. I have known owners lay boards, throw down sand or gravel on access pathways so that campers can access pitches. If you know your site can get boggy in wet weather then you should do something about it or open seasonally not blame your guests and then go round to all the other campers to rally their support. Extremely unprofessional behaviour. I am sure there will be a response to this review blaming us again as they seem to have an answer for everything including referring to their 10 out of 10 reviews on pitch up but these are clearly regulars with static set ups who don't mind being towed off and on site.

From the manager: Camp Owner's Response. These comments are not correct:- Holme Lea had contacted as many imminent customers as we could get hold of, to inform them of the ground conditions, leaving them the choice of whether to cancel or not. The entrance onto the site was fine initially however due to a few sharp showers it did become slippery. We had a mixture of campers on Site including other tents, motor homes, and caravans. Quite a few including ordinary cars were able to drive on and off unaided depending on their vehicle. Those that would struggle were offered to be taken to their pitch to avoid making conditions any worse. Then politely asked if they wouldn't mind leaving their vehicle on the hardstanding, they were happy to do this. These campers refused this! getting stuck on two occasions. They are right in the comment the site was not suitable for their set up. They were provided with what they had booked for. Their behaviour and attitude was poor from the start and in hindsight we should have refused access. They were swearing and shouting at each other when setting up next to families with small children. 1. Owners were on Site constantly through day until dark, and contactable at all times via phone. 2. We do not have any statics on site as alleged. 3. My husband was repairing a toilet handle on their arrival. This is maintenance! 4. Showers are payable separately as detailed on Pitch Up. Key is then provided for use of that room. 5. We are a farm Site and don't have hardstanding or gravel areas. The Site was fine at the beginning of Easter break but due to heavy showers the entrance condition did get muddy. We restricted numbers on site this weekend in case this should happen. If we were greedy we wouldn't have done this. 6. We charge £20 per night for 2 people. We are the opposite of greedy. 7. We were on Site constantly with 4x4 if needed. 8. I made hot cross buns and took them round to campers who were on site at the time. 9. My husband spent some time helping another camper who needed assistance with equipment, which he is happy to do. 10.Both my husband and I are friendly and there to help, however when you are met with bad attitude, rudeness and swearing that can wear thin. Other campers that heard them carrying on commented on their behaviour. 11.We have got good reviews from previous customers who come back due to the good value and our hospitality. 90% this weekend were people that had not visited us before. No Static Set Ups whatsoever as alleged !! Basically these two were miffed because we didn't refund their second night, which we were not obliged to do.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Both owners at Holme lea were nothing but accommodating, they offered help and support to all the guests staying over the Easter weekend. We personally couldn’t recommend the campsite more, the weather was not on their side however they didn’t let that stop us and other families enjoying the bank holiday weekend away. We will definitely be returning and look forward to our next stay. The location was fab with young children we could venture out and about with it being a short travel to and from cleethorpes and Skegness. Mablethorpe not too far away either. Thank you again for a brilliant weekend stay.

Disliked: Nothing in relation to the campsite or the owners. The only dislike we had was the other campers who have made out like the campsite was not fit for purpose, which they are so wrong. The weather wasn’t great no but the owners did everything in their power to help each and every camper out. They were rude towards Louise and Steve and was totally uncalled for we stayed next door and could hear them shouting at the staff. They’ve left an awful review on here that’s just not necessary at all! Such a shame they are trying to bring such a lovely family orientated campsite down just because they wanted their money back after the first night.

Liked: Despite a mix-up over booking when the site was closed, we were welcomed and helped to set up. Then when we were mud/snow-bound in the morning, we were towed out with smiles and good cheer. What a great experience on our way to see the seals @ Donna Nook!

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Had the place to myself. Lou was really helpful and informative. Great host. Toilets are basic but functional and all you really need for a camping stay. The new shower room is still under refurb but what a power shower!! Awesome pressure and good heat. I also got a look at the newly refurbished shepherd hut cum cottage. It’s absolutely fantastic. A real gem. The campsite is absolutely fantastic value for money.
