  • Countryside setting overlooking a working fruit farm
  • Close to Skegness, Ingoldmells, Chapel St Leonards and Mablethorpe
  • Help feed the donkeys, ponies and sheep

Small but pretty much perfectly formed: family-friendly Simon Field Farm Fruit Orchards may be a teeny site, but we think you and the kids will always find quite a bit to see and do here – and the Lincolnshire coast seaside resorts of Skegness, Ingoldmells, Chapel St Leonards and Mablethorpe are all close by too.

(Want to leave the car behind? The farm is close to bus stops where the No 9 between Skegness and Louth runs, while heaps of places nearby have bike racks if you want to go out exploring on two wheels.)

Simon Field is set where the countryside meets the coastline, two and a half miles from the sea and at the edge of its local village. It overlooks a working fruit farm where the orchards produce sweet juicy specimens sold in the farm shop and used in the farm's own range of jams, jellies and chutneys. (You can also buy local Lincolnshire produce like Farmer Brown's ice cream in the shop, as well as hanging baskets and planters from the flower and plant polytunnel if you're feeling generously placed to take gifts home.)

Littlies can help feed the donkeys, ponies and sheep and help out with collecting eggs from the free range hens, while all sizes should enjoy a wander around/picnic in the farm wildflower meadow or hanging out in the wifi area newly added for 2016.

Facilities at Simon Field include two loo and shower blocks which have been professionally fitted out, a chemical disposal point and a washing-up area with unlimited hot water.

For eats, both the nearby Red Lion at Mumby and Poppas Bar in Anderby serve good food and drinks, or you could take a courtesy bus to the Axe and Cleaver in Huttoft for regular free entertainment and a huge play area behind the pub. (The 'bus', by the by, is often the pub's own fire engine that they use to organise events and parties in – that sounds like sizzingly good fun to us.)
