  • Family park a short drive from Mablethorpe
  • Coarse fishing pond, indoor pool and kids' club
  • Adventure playground, soft play area and bar lounge serving food
Had enough of the boss making you do all the donkey work? Fed up with working like a pack mule? Feel like it’s been donkey’s years since your last holiday? Come and kick your heels with the real donkeys on Mablethorpe beach for a few days instead. Set on the north Lincolnshire coast 20 minutes' drive from Louth, Sunnydale Holiday Park opens out onto a wide stretch of sandy beach for seaside strolls, and is a 15-minute drive from the family-friendly cluster of beachy activities in the resort of Mablethorpe (think fairground rides, donkeys and crazy golf… along with chip-eating and sandcastle-building of course). Dipped your toe in the sea and declared it a touch chilly for swims? Get your cossie on back at the park, where the indoor pool promises suitably heated waters in all weather. And if you'd rather sit by the water than dunk yourself in it, bring along a rod licence for days spent by the site's coarse fishing pond. Keeping the kids busy should be straightforward here: there are great kids’ clubs for children under 11, an adventure playground and soft play area, plus a range of organised sports activities on land and in the pool. During the summer there's also a range of lively shows laid on to keep the whole family entertained for the evening. And keeping everyone fed and watered should be a cinch too, as the lounge bar has you sorted for a good range of grub (and suitable drinks) at breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus snacks throughout the day.

Liked The site is still up and coming i would say, the shop has great priced stock in it not expensive at all, there is a swimming pool too. The food on site was great too. Saltfleet beach is vast and empty, is very clean as well.

Disliked That we paid £12 a night through pitch up but we wanted to stay and extra night and with the signal on site been very poor i booked through park dean and the extra night was £26.

Liked NOTHING .

Disliked We loaded up the van, kids buzzing with excitement, and headed off for a two-night break at Sunnydale Holiday Park in Mablethorpe. The journey was smooth and the entrance to the park looked great—first impressions had me feeling confident I’d picked a winner.

We parked up outside the office and checked in. The young lad at the desk was polite, handed me a site map, and marked the route to our pitch. I followed his directions, weaving through the caravans, and as I pulled into the pitch… the van sank. Completely bogged. We were stuck.

I walked back to the office to let them know, and the same guy assured me someone would come with a tractor to tow us out. I asked if there was another pitch we could use, and he pointed to one directly in front of us—also a soggy mess. I told him straight: these pitches aren’t fit for £60,000 motorhomes—they’re more suited to pigs. They’d love it.

Back at the van, we waited. Twenty minutes passed. Still no tractor. I returned to the office again, this time met by a young woman who snapped, “Can I help you?” I explained I’d been waiting ages for help. Her response? “We’ve got other customers to deal with.” I reminded her I was one of them and had just paid £128 to get stuck in a field. I asked for a full refund.

She said, “Yep,” with no courtesy whatsoever. Asked for my name and booking reference with zero manners. After giving her the details, she tossed the paper into the till and told me the refund would take two weeks. No apology. Nothing.

Finally, as I walked back to the van, the tractor arrived. The guy operating it was lovely—polite, helpful, careful with the van. A stark contrast to the reception staff. He really did go above and beyond.

My son, not happy with the lack of proof of refund, went back into the office and requested something official. Only then did they bother to type and print a confirmation. Still no apology, no attempt to fix things or offer another solution—just another boggy pitch and a bad attitude.

All this while my two kids, who had been buzzing for a fun Easter weekend and a dip in the pool, were left disappointed in the back of the van.

We packed up and found another site in Skegness—Waterside. What a turnaround. Absolutely fantastic place—within walking distance to shops, amusements, and the beach. Impeccably clean facilities, helpful staff, excellent pitches. All for £30 a night.

In comparison, Sunnydale charged us £128 for mud. I wouldn’t return to Sunnydale if you paid me—and I certainly wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. That ground is completely unfit for motorhomes, caravans, or tents. A couple of pigs? They’d have the time of their lives.

Stay clear. You’ve been warned.

Local attractions

For seaside days, start by making for Mablethorpe (15 minutes' drive), where there's a lengthy stretch of sandy beach and a seal sanctuary to repair to if it's not paddle-worthy weather (or, understandably, you just like to coo over cute creatures…) Cleethorpes (35 minutes) is another good bet for a beachy day, especially if you schedule in a trip on the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway – it's one of the UK's oldest seaside steam railways, and can fittingly take you to the smallest pub on the planet. Mix up coast days with country outings to go horse riding in the Lincolnshire Wolds (25 minutes), meet friendly farm animals at Rushmoor Farm Park (15 minutes) or see how medieval folk lived at Tattershall Castle (50 minutes). For a bit of city time it’s about an hour’s drive to Lincoln, with its gorgeous castle, cathedral and culture (not forgetting the shops).
