Sparky and the kids' club

General

  • Family park a short drive from Mablethorpe
  • Coarse fishing pond, indoor pool and kids' club
  • Adventure playground, soft play area and bar lounge serving food

Had enough of the boss making you do all the donkey work? Fed up with working like a pack mule? Feel like it’s been donkey’s years since your last holiday? Come and kick your heels with the real donkeys on Mablethorpe beach for a few days instead.

Set on the north Lincolnshire coast 20 minutes' drive from Louth, Sunnydale Holiday Park opens out onto a wide stretch of sandy beach for seaside strolls, and is a 15-minute drive from the family-friendly cluster of beachy activities in the resort of Mablethorpe (think fairground rides, donkeys and crazy golf… along with chip-eating and sandcastle-building of course).

Dipped your toe in the sea and declared it a touch chilly for swims? Get your cossie on back at the park, where the indoor pool promises suitably heated waters in all weather. And if you'd rather sit by the water than dunk yourself in it, bring along a rod licence for days spent by the site's coarse fishing pond.

Keeping the kids busy should be straightforward here: there are great kids’ clubs for children under 11, an adventure playground and soft play area, plus a range of organised sports activities on land and in the pool. During the summer guests there's also a range of lively shows laid on to keep the whole family entertained for the evening. And keeping everyone fed and watered should be a cinch too, as the lounge bar has you sorted for a good range of grub (and suitable drinks) at breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus snacks throughout the day.

Please note

No cars/motorcycles at the site. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Single-sex parties of 3 or more people under 25 are not permitted on site.

Swimming pool access is included: please show your Entertainment pass.

Entertainment passes are included in the rate.

Friendly atmosphere, the staff (especially in the restaurant) made us feel very welcome. Good food at reasonable prices. Exceptionally clean facilities. Very good price for our stay. Close to the sea (well, when the tide was in lol). The whole family had a very happy stay here!

    Disliked:

The only negative for me was we had no phone signal and had to use the wifi in the entertainment area as we couldn't get any mobile data reception. But there was enough onsite to keep us occupied, I didn't miss my phone anyway!

The site is great for families. The swimming pool and the club house look great. I never used them as we have dogs.

    Disliked:

My main bug bare was the toilets. Three toilets are not enough for the amount of people on the tourer pitches. And I was upset to find a male attendant in the female toilets. He was in there from 7:30 until 8:30. No other toilets are available to use at that time so I had to wait. He told me I could come in. I definitely wasn’t going to use the toilet with a man stood outside the cubicle. There wasn’t a set time for cleaning either, he turned up a various times of the day.

had an awful time left on the next evening to arrival . at first it seemed ok .the pitch was far from good it was pitch number 12. very uneven and had a very smelly man whole right in the middle of the pitch. the man whole was raised out and a trip hazard . but as we didn't have a awning with us just a utility shelter for our camping chairs we did not complain. on Saturday morning we walked to the reception to ask about a later check out on sunday. we were told it would be an extra £8 which we paid. then about 3pm a member of staff came and said we had to take down the tent . I explained it was a store tent and not for sleeping they said it did not mater it had to come down.so we went to reception for a refund on the late checkout as we would have to leave in the morning not having any were to store our extra thing .we were told that we had paid and they could not refund the money. the staff didn't care or help or ask the manger they just didn't see interested at all .we left reception feeling sick. they had been quick to take our money but not willing to help. we went back to our caravan feeling the whole weekend had been spoilt . at 3.30 when we should have been relaxing we would be packing all our things away.this would mean sorting things again the next day only to be going home .no time to relax. a waste of time .not what we come away for. everyone felt fed up so we decided to leave an go home. on the way out we dropped off the pass key. reception was closed but the sales office was still open so I dropped the key in there. the girl behind the desk was the only member of staff that listened and tried to help. she fetched the manager .I told him what had happened .he didn't seem that interested although he begrudgingly said he would refund the £8 I said the whole weekend had been ruined and that it was not good enough . I left feeling I would not use park dean again. we have camped for about 5 years and met some great friendly and helpful people but not there.

The price, at first I thought it was a typing error but after contacting the site direct, we were assured that the price was correct. On arrival we were given site directions and general information by courteous, professional reception staff.

    Disliked:

The touring pitches!!! No wonder they are so cheap, talk about basic! whoever came up with the concept of having tourers on site must have drawn a grid out to ensure the maximum number of pitches could be squeezed in, add an electrical box and that's your lot!! No wonder there are no picture's of the touring pitches!!!

No access to the bar and on site facilities if you had a dog with you, why does the site cater for dogs (and charges you to take them on site), if the only place they are allowed is in your own caravan? As both pubs in the village cater for dogs, we spent our money there - the sites loss not ours !!!

Access to the touring field toilet block is not suited for people with restricted mobility or disability and whilst the toilet block is kept spotlessly clean and well stocked, there are no disabled facilities once you get into them - there may be disabled facilities on site but unfortunately no information was available as to where they could be found.

Whilst I appreciate that it may have been a long season for the ground staff members, do all of them move about the site with their eyes and ears closed? During our visit we had two days of very high winds, some awnings on the seasonal pitched caravans were obviously in a poor state for all to see (bent poles, ripped awnings, pegs coming out etc) but when one member of staff was asked if this had been reported, he advised that it was nothing to do with them and if people wanted to leave their awnings up it was their problem! - not exactly the attitude I would expect from an employee - whilst I didnt expect him to jump off his machine and sort the problem out, he could have at least reported it to reception and they could have contacted the owners (rather than wait until another seasonal pitch user took photographs and reported it)

From pulling on the site i had a good gut feeling it was going to be a good weekend, so much room on the pitch, everything you could wish for, toilet and shower block was so clean, entertainment second to none, swimming pool so clean ,and the food spot on (hot).Nothing to dislike so much for the children to do. Try it. Keep doing what you are doing.

Local attractions

For seaside days, start by making for Mablethorpe (15 minutes' drive), where there's a lengthy stretch of sandy beach and a seal sanctuary to repair to if it's not paddle-worthy weather (or, understandably, you just like to coo over cute creatures…)

Cleethorpes (35 minutes) is another good bet for a beachy day, especially if you schedule in a trip on the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway – it's one of the UK's oldest seaside steam railways, and can fittingly take you to the smallest pub on the planet.

Mix up coast days with country outings to go horse riding in the Lincolnshire Wolds (25 minutes), meet friendly farm animals at Rushmoor Farm Park (15 minutes) or see how medieval folk lived at Tattershall Castle (50 minutes). For a bit of city time it’s about an hour’s drive to Lincoln, with its gorgeous castle, cathedral and culture (not forgetting the shops).

National Trust

  • Gunby Hall (17.0 miles)
  • Gunby Hall Estate: Monksthorpe Chapel (18.1 miles)
