Campsites with indoor swimming pools: the outdoor life with a dash of added luxury

Camping… bit of a basic holiday isn’t it? Trying to sort the bare essentials of shelter and food in an empty field, nowt to do, kids resorting to poking each other with sticks for fun…

And really we have to be honest here… the answer there is a big NO. Of course, it can be exactly this if that’s what you’re in the mood for – for some folk whose synapses have been doing overtime dealing with work, constant connection and just life in general, getting back to basics for some quiet time in the open air can be utter bliss. (And if you do fancy a taste of that approach, check out our wild camping options here.)

Other folk, meanwhile, will be pleased to hear that camping doesn’t have to resemble the sort of damp mess you’d see in a sitcom. Nope, these days there’s something for everyone, from the wild campers to luxury-seeking glampers, with a sliding scale running all the way in between.

Perhaps you’d like to add just a touch of convenience to your break by looking out for a place with a bar, a play area or a café (a most handy feature for folk who aren’t entirely sure of their camping stove skills). But why stop there? It’s your holiday – if you want all the bells and whistles, bring them on.

Why campsites with indoor pools are the canny choice

And so we come to picking yourself a campsite with swimming pool provided. There’s something about swimming pools that just shouts ‘holiday’, right? Little can compete with the sense of freedom that comes from leaping into the water and spending a happy hour or several splashing about (particularly for kids, but this is one joy most folk are unlikely to grow out of…)

We’re not talking about chilly, unloved outdoor pools here, either – those folk with a dim view of camping’s appeal may well be surprised to find that our lineup features hundreds of holiday parks and campsites with indoor pools, strewn all around the UK, Europe and beyond.

Picking a campsite with an indoor swimming pool makes excellent sense if you’ve got kids to entertain – of course you’ll come along with grand plans for all the days out you’ll want to pack in to your break, but sometimes you’ll want a straightforward (and cheap) way to fill a few hours in between such antics, and an on-site pool is just made for such situations.

Needless to say, an indoor pool really comes into its own when the weather’s being a bit iffy too – a few hours in the water makes a fine alternative activity if your day out in the open is curtailed. And because it’s not weather-reliant, an indoor pool is also likely to be open for a longer chunk of the season rather than being a facility that’s only useful in the height of summer (worth bearing in mind for Easter or half-term breaks…)

Isn’t it pricey to find a campsite with a pool?

It’s likely to be true that the longer the list of facilities, the slightly larger the number of pennies you’ll need to invest for a stay at your chosen spot. But let’s face it, campsites in general tend to offer extremely excellent value for money, so you’re still likely to be looking at a bargain break. And let’s just imagine how much it might cost to invest in a hotel with a similar facility – well, there’s no comparison is there?

On top of that, if a campsite has seen fit to invest in something as fancy as an indoor pool, it’s rather likely that the owners will have given a fair amount of attention to the other facilities too. It’s not a hard and fast rule, of course, but along with the pool you may well find such things as a smart clubhouse, a sauna, extensive playgrounds, sports facilities, a gym, a hot tub… and at the very least you’d probably expect a decent toilet and shower block. (Use the check boxes on the left-hand side of this page to home in on the facilities you’re after for your break.)

All this, plus the chance to sit out with a sunset drink, chat by the campfire and have an alfresco brekkie with chirping birds in the background… well, you’re not likely to find that in many budget hotels, eh? If you do, however, want to be sure of having a solid roof over your head, why not check out our glamping options for a stay in a gypsy caravan, tipi, yurt or wigwam, or settle somewhere in between at a fuss-free camping pod with swimming pool.

Where can I find places to go camping with a swimming pool?

Given the somewhat, ahem, changeable climate of the home nations, it’s perhaps unsurprising that there’s plenty of choice when it comes to UK campsites with indoor swimming pool – if you’re planning a break somewhere on home turf, check out the options in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Seaside holiday parks make up the bulk of the offering here, but there are also options in choice inland spots such as near to national parks.

A national enthusiasm for lengthy camping breaks with heaps of family-oriented facilities also means that it’s easy to find a campsite with a swimming pool in France and, to a lesser extent the Netherlands. Spain, Italy and Germany are among your other options around Europe, and as the idea of boosting a camping break with added facilities catches on around the continent it’s likely that list will continue to grow…
