Ruda Holiday Park: Adventure play area

General

  • Within a short stroll of the surf and golden sands of Croyde Bay
  • Surfboards and wetsuits for hire; surfing lessons available
  • Tropical indoor pool, indoor/outdoor play, beach café and kids' clubs

Sick of being rudely awakened by your alarm clock? Try a Ruda wakening instead: after a blissfully peaceful lie-in, unzip your sleeping bag, take a gulp of fresh clean air and stroll a few steps down to the golden sands and sparkling waves… Ruda Holiday Park is in the perfect spot to make the most of the surfers' paradise of Croyde Bay on Devon’s Gold Coast, sitting right alongside the sweeping sandy bay.

Croyde is a world-famous destination for surfers, and it’d be ruda not to have a go while you’re here. You can hire a variety of boards, wetsuits and other kit from Ruda Holiday Park’s dedicated surf shop, and instructors from the renowned Surf South West school are on hand if you want lessons.

If the weather puts the kibosh on splashing around in the great outdoors, head for Ruda’s tropical indoor pool complex, where there are water rapids and underwater geysers, waterfalls, hydrojets and one humongous slide.

This site is great for kids of all ages, with beach games laid on throughout the summer, a soft play area, an outdoor playground complete with obstacle course, and very bouncy kids' clubs: toddlers can make their own musical instruments for a boogie with Sid the seagull and Lizzie the lizard; four- to 10-year-olds can star in their own superhero movie, or get stuck into nostalgic funfair sessions featuring a coconut shy, tin can alley and the like; and there are DJ workshops and plenty of other age-appropriate action for tweens and teens in the Freestyle club.

As with all Parkdean Resorts sites, you’ll find a good choice of on-site food options (Ruda has the added bonus of a beach café and ice-cream parlour), plus a sprightly schedule of evening entertainment, and comprehensive essential amenities.

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Single-sex parties of three or more people under 25 are not permitted on site.

The reason for the low star is purely down to the cleanliness of the toilets.
If this was to be addressed I would happily have given 5 stars, the facilities need updating but are not unusable.
The position of the site is fantastic......right next to the beach and within walking distance of the village, busses running just outside the park to get around.
Generous size of the pitches, no light pollution, security on site, who were helpful.
Showers were hot and a good amount of them for the size of site, they need a little TLC but they work and I have seen much worse.
    Hot washing up water.
    Place to wash the wetsuits.
I will stay again and would suggest to a friend, just give them the heads up on the state of the toilets 🤷🏻‍♀️

    Disliked:

Dirty toilets, no toilet paper, poo on toilet seats, soiled paper all over the floor. Toilet paper on the door handle to get out of the toilets!
We arrived on the Friday and it wasn't until we complained at the security on Saturday night that the toilets were cleaned.
    Bins full and spilling over.
We requested to be placed in a group but they said this was not possible because there was no space......there were plenty of pitches together but we were made to feel that this was because we booked on pitchup and not directly with the site that this was not possible.

The location. Beautiful for sun set and rise
The staff. Verry helpful and friendly.

    Disliked:

The pitch location was right on the cliff edge, so when the wind hits it hits hard.
    Also on a slight slope.
The entertainment of an evening is a bit samey. Could do with more staff on the bar in the evening

Local attractions

Don’t miss the chance to explore the Devonshire coastline surrounding Ruda Holiday Park. Recommendations include a walk to the headland at Baggy Point where you’ll be rewarded with outstanding views; a saunter along spectacular Saunton Sands, and a delve into the dunes at Braunton Burrows.

Croyde is a perfectly pretty village of thatched cottages, tearooms, pubs, restaurants, cafés and (but of course) surf shops.

There are umpteen visitor attractions in the area, particularly for animal enthusiasts, who can come face to face with life-sized model dinosaurs and a host of their living, breathing descendants at Combe Martin Wildlife Park; practise their trout pouts on some fishy friends at Ilfracombe’s aquarium; or get hands on with the animals at the Big Sheep, the area’s most eccentric day out: sheep racing and stunt ducks, anyone…?

Must see

  • RHS Garden Rosemoor (14.0 miles)

National Trust

  • Arlington Court and the National Trust Carriage Museum (11.2 miles)
  • Heddon Valley (14.7 miles)
