Ruda Holiday Park: Sea view from the outdoor decking

General

  • Within a short stroll of the surf and golden sands of Croyde Bay
  • Surfboards and wetsuits for hire; surfing lessons available
  • Tropical indoor pool, indoor/outdoor play, beach café and kids' clubs

Sick of being rudely awakened by your alarm clock? Try a Ruda wakening instead: after a blissfully peaceful lie-in, unzip your sleeping bag, take a gulp of fresh clean air and stroll a few steps down to the golden sands and sparkling waves… Ruda Holiday Park is in the perfect spot to make the most of the surfers' paradise of Croyde Bay on Devon’s Gold Coast, sitting right alongside the sweeping sandy bay.

Croyde is a world-famous destination for surfers, and it’d be ruda not to have a go while you’re here. You can hire a variety of boards, wetsuits and other kit from Ruda Holiday Park’s dedicated surf shop, and instructors from the renowned Surf South West school are on hand if you want lessons.

If the weather puts the kibosh on splashing around in the great outdoors, head for Ruda’s tropical indoor pool complex, where there are water rapids and underwater geysers, waterfalls, hydrojets and one humongous slide.

This site is great for kids of all ages, with beach games laid on throughout the summer, a soft play area, an outdoor playground complete with obstacle course, and very bouncy kids' clubs: toddlers can make their own musical instruments for a boogie with Sid the seagull and Lizzie the lizard; four- to 10-year-olds can star in their own superhero movie, or get stuck into nostalgic funfair sessions featuring a coconut shy, tin can alley and the like; and there are DJ workshops and plenty of other age-appropriate action for tweens and teens in the Freestyle club.

As with all Parkdean Resorts sites, you’ll find a good choice of on-site food options (Ruda has the added bonus of a beach café and ice-cream parlour), plus a sprightly schedule of evening entertainment, and comprehensive essential amenities.

Please note

Facilities/activities including pool facilities are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Single-sex parties of three or more people under 25 are not permitted on site.

Excellent location with relatively level pitches, good value for money26/05/2022

Superbly situated with well kept camping fields. Good clean facilities that were more than suitable for all ablutions. Polite, friendly staff. Park shops and bar were well stocked and reasonably priced (everything was a little more expensive but only as expected, I could have driven offsite and paid less had I wanted to).
Amazing views/ sounds of the beach and sea with only a 5 minute walk to the beach from the Bray camping field (I have mobility issues and was able to manage this with ease using just my walking stick).
Although we didn't use it, there is a bus stop right outside the gate with a hourly service into Croyde and further a field, although I'm not sure how late in to the day that runs.
We're already looking to re-visit later in the season.

Although they were functional the shower block could do with some TLC and the locks being repaired. The WiFi doesn't come anywhere near advertised. Perhaps the strimming of the verges could begin after 10am.

Like the pitches the reception and pool staff were very friendly, good quick service , clean shower blocks .

    Disliked:

We travled here purposely for the fishing lakes which are advertised thoughout the website , with pictures of previous catches and reviews . They clearly offer syndicate lakes on all advertisements. This was not the case when we arrived we were told there not sure if there lakes or not and the young ladys acctual words where " no one can be bothered to take it off the website but there's no longer fishing lakes here you can fish if you want tho " very disappointing as we traveled two hours to stay here purely to use the lakes my son was very upset . There was also a extra charge for the pool which is not disclosed.

Loved the pool, the slide was super fun & fast.
Staff were lovely, friendly & helpful.
The clubhouse was big with plenty of seats, bars, food & entertainment was fun.
Very close to the beach, also amazing walks with stunning views & nothing but green & blue.
Great on site shop with everything you could want.
The pitch sizes were very big, lovely view of the sea, nice & quiet got to enjoy a lie in.
No dogs, so kids got to run around without stress of mess & barking.

    Disliked:

The top toilets/ shower block could do with a deep clean, there was a party on the Sunday evening in another field which went on to midnight, was a shame it was so loud & nothing could be done about it.
It was a shame the pool was only 45mins & charged £1.50 per person, the slide stopped letting people on after 30mins & the rapids went on & off half the time.
Changing rooms were way too small, only 3 working showers & bit of a nightmare as everyone coming & going at the same time could of had a band system so 60 mins slot with 15mins over laps or similar to ease the getting in & out.

Local attractions

Don’t miss the chance to explore the Devonshire coastline surrounding Ruda Holiday Park. Recommendations include a walk to the headland at Baggy Point where you’ll be rewarded with outstanding views; a saunter along spectacular Saunton Sands, and a delve into the dunes at Braunton Burrows.

Croyde is a perfectly pretty village of thatched cottages, tearooms, pubs, restaurants, cafés and (but of course) surf shops.

There are umpteen visitor attractions in the area, particularly for animal enthusiasts, who can come face to face with life-sized model dinosaurs and a host of their living, breathing descendants at Combe Martin Wildlife Park; practise their trout pouts on some fishy friends at Ilfracombe’s aquarium; or get hands on with the animals at the Big Sheep, the area’s most eccentric day out: sheep racing and stunt ducks, anyone…?
