Adventure play area

General

  • Within a short stroll of the surf and golden sands of Croyde Bay
  • Surfboards and wetsuits for hire; surfing lessons available
  • Tropical indoor pool, indoor/outdoor play, beach café and kids' clubs

Sick of being rudely awakened by your alarm clock? Try a Ruda wakening instead: after a blissfully peaceful lie-in, unzip your sleeping bag, take a gulp of fresh clean air and stroll a few steps down to the golden sands and sparkling waves… Ruda Holiday Park is in the perfect spot to make the most of the surfers' paradise of Croyde Bay on Devon’s Gold Coast, sitting right alongside the sweeping sandy bay.

Croyde is a world-famous destination for surfers, and it’d be ruda not to have a go while you’re here. You can hire a variety of boards, wetsuits and other kit from Ruda Holiday Park’s dedicated surf shop, and instructors from the renowned Surf South West school are on hand if you want lessons.

If the weather puts the kibosh on splashing around in the great outdoors, head for Ruda’s tropical indoor pool complex, where there are water rapids and underwater geysers, waterfalls, hydrojets and one humongous slide.

This site is great for kids of all ages, with beach games laid on throughout the summer, a soft play area, an outdoor playground complete with obstacle course, and very bouncy kids' clubs: toddlers can make their own musical instruments for a boogie with Sid the seagull and Lizzie the lizard; four- to 10-year-olds can star in their own superhero movie, or get stuck into nostalgic funfair sessions featuring a coconut shy, tin can alley and the like; and there are DJ workshops and plenty of other age-appropriate action for tweens and teens in the Freestyle club.

As with all Parkdean Resorts sites, you’ll find a good choice of on-site food options (Ruda has the added bonus of a beach café and ice-cream parlour), plus a sprightly schedule of evening entertainment, and comprehensive essential amenities.

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Fabulous to be so close to the beautiful beach. Facilities were very clean. Everything was well organised and there was lots to do in addition to the beach. Very child friendly. Well adapted given the COVID situation, always felt well spaced from other people.

    Nothing

    Disliked:

We turned up and the camping field looked like a festival the tents were that close together, we couldn't even get out car onto the pitch and was told to park elsewhere, and considering we are in a worldwide pandemic I felt it was far too unsafe and even if we weren't in a pandemic, the money I paid I expected alot more. Staff weren't very helpful really and just shrugged off the fact and said they had no other complaints which honestly I feel cannot be true. We didn't even unpack the car and went to a campsite in woolacombe paid a third less, got an extra night and was 10 times the place this was.

Showers and toilets were clean. Good selection in shops and food outlets. Huge size pitches. Close proximity to beach.

    Disliked:

Could maybe have more playground things for the children. Could make better use of the field at the top where the playground area is. Would have liked the reception desk open for longer hours then 9 to 5.

Great location and facilities for families but not peaceful31/07/2020

  • Liked:

    Pitch size was good.
Seafront location making this very desirable for surfing.
Clean toilets and showers which was a massive plus for my fussy kids.
Kids play area was great with a big open field for the family to play games.
Surf hire which was reasonably priced and convenient.

    Disliked:

Tents are crammed in, feel on top of each other and was noisy in the evenings.
Swimming pool was terrible, not worth doing.
Checkout was too early (10am) when considering check-in is 2pm, what are they doing to a tent pitch for 4 hours?
No ice block freezing facilities (only exchange) which is no good when I had specialist blocks that cost a fortune.
Wife was not free which when you're paying £70 a night just for a camping pitch you'd like to think they could include complimentary wifi.

Local attractions

Don’t miss the chance to explore the Devonshire coastline surrounding Ruda Holiday Park. Recommendations include a walk to the headland at Baggy Point where you’ll be rewarded with outstanding views; a saunter along spectacular Saunton Sands, and a delve into the dunes at Braunton Burrows.

Croyde is a perfectly pretty village of thatched cottages, tearooms, pubs, restaurants, cafés and (but of course) surf shops.

There are umpteen visitor attractions in the area, particularly for animal enthusiasts, who can come face to face with life-sized model dinosaurs and a host of their living, breathing descendants at Combe Martin Wildlife Park; practise their trout pouts on some fishy friends at Ilfracombe’s aquarium; or get hands on with the animals at the Big Sheep, the area’s most eccentric day out: sheep racing and stunt ducks, anyone…?

Must see

  • RHS Garden Rosemoor (14.0 miles)

National Trust

  • Arlington Court and the National Trust Carriage Museum (11.2 miles)
  • Heddon Valley (14.7 miles)
