Ruda Holiday Park: Swimming Pool (photo added by manager on 13/03/2023)

General

  • Within a short stroll of the surf and golden sands of Croyde Bay
  • Surfboards and wetsuits for hire; surfing lessons available
  • Tropical indoor pool, indoor/outdoor play, beach café and kids' clubs

Sick of being rudely awakened by your alarm clock? Try a Ruda wakening instead: after a blissfully peaceful lie-in, unzip your sleeping bag, take a gulp of fresh clean air and stroll a few steps down to the golden sands and sparkling waves… Ruda Holiday Park is in the perfect spot to make the most of the surfers' paradise of Croyde Bay on Devon’s Gold Coast, sitting right alongside the sweeping sandy bay.

Croyde is a world-famous destination for surfers, and it’d be ruda not to have a go while you’re here. You can hire a variety of boards, wetsuits and other kit from Ruda Holiday Park’s dedicated surf shop, and instructors from the renowned Surf South West school are on hand if you want lessons.

If the weather puts the kibosh on splashing around in the great outdoors, head for Ruda’s tropical indoor pool complex, where there are water rapids and underwater geysers, waterfalls, hydrojets and one humongous slide.

This site is great for kids of all ages, with beach games laid on throughout the summer, a soft play area, an outdoor playground complete with obstacle course, and very bouncy kids' clubs: toddlers can make their own musical instruments for a boogie with Sid the seagull and Lizzie the lizard; four- to 10-year-olds can star in their own superhero movie, or get stuck into nostalgic funfair sessions featuring a coconut shy, tin can alley and the like; and there are DJ workshops and plenty of other age-appropriate action for tweens and teens in the Freestyle club.

As with all Parkdean Resorts sites, you’ll find a good choice of on-site food options (Ruda has the added bonus of a beach café and ice-cream parlour), plus a sprightly schedule of evening entertainment, and comprehensive essential amenities.

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Single-sex parties of three or more people under 25 are not permitted on site.

Facilities were amazing. Location was perfect. Staff were really nice and helpful. Had everything you’d ever need.

    Disliked:

I feel like there should have been at least 1 patrol at night as the pitch opposite us were VERY loud. Laughing and shouting (drunk) until nearly 2am. A patrol would have been able to keep a lid on this behaviour which happened both nights we stayed at Ruda.

Loved how spacious the safari tent was. Loved the location, could see and hear the sea. Liked the kitchenette, everything you need to help cook a meal. Comfy beds!
    Staff very friendly and helpful
Grounds well maintained and rubbish free.

    Disliked:

Glamping toilets/showers are ok but not the best, the men’s were dirty and the door was broken, had been forced open. Luckily we took our own loo! Didn’t use the entertainment facility as the place smelt mouldy. Did go in there to use the loo, on entrance to the facility there was a couple of buckets catching rain water and the toilets had a lot flies.
The fried chicken restaurant/takeaway is expensive, a burger, chicken strips and two drinks cost almost £30.
Don’t understand why dogs aren’t allowed there

    Location close to beach.
    Helpful staff at reception.
    Fairly level pitch.
Good to see and hear lots of activity around us, though site not full. (Particularly one group of youngsters there for the surf.)
Didn't use the swimming pool on a short stay but glad it was there.

    Disliked:

10.00 a.m. deadline for departure. Another hour would have been nice, but I do understand.
Dirty showers. Of course sand gets everywhere and mud will get left. But it would be possible to provide a mop and bucket for us to clean up before and after taking a shower.

Local attractions

Don’t miss the chance to explore the Devonshire coastline surrounding Ruda Holiday Park. Recommendations include a walk to the headland at Baggy Point where you’ll be rewarded with outstanding views; a saunter along spectacular Saunton Sands, and a delve into the dunes at Braunton Burrows.

Croyde is a perfectly pretty village of thatched cottages, tearooms, pubs, restaurants, cafés and (but of course) surf shops.

There are umpteen visitor attractions in the area, particularly for animal enthusiasts, who can come face to face with life-sized model dinosaurs and a host of their living, breathing descendants at Combe Martin Wildlife Park; practise their trout pouts on some fishy friends at Ilfracombe’s aquarium; or get hands on with the animals at the Big Sheep, the area’s most eccentric day out: sheep racing and stunt ducks, anyone…?

Must see

  • RHS Garden Rosemoor (14.0 miles)

National Trust

  • Arlington Court and the National Trust Carriage Museum (11.2 miles)
  • Heddon Valley (14.7 miles)
