Newlands Holiday Park: Pool

General

  • Family-friendly park just outside Charmouth on the Jurassic Coast
  • Pools, bar, restaurant, play areas and indoor play
  • Modern amenities including hot showers, launderette and food shop

There’s nothing fossilised about a stay at Newlands Holiday Park, a stone’s throw away from the Jurassic Coast on the Devon/Dorset border, where the staff and facilities should cater to your every holiday need.

For example, this lush place has two separate play areas for the mini guests; an in-house chef dishing up the best of local food at the restaurant; an indoor heated pool – and an outdoor one with loungers so you can bask in the sun and wonder where the kids get all that energy…

More? There’s a lounge and bar, a conservatory with scenic patio for having a glass of wine and drinking in the uninterrupted Dorset views, the indoor soft play area… Use family-run Newlands as a base for a Lyme Regis fossil-hunting holiday or just lounge about on site; either way, epic times are on the cards.

The 23-acre landscaped park has all the facilities you’d expect from a thoroughly modern site: food shop, internet access and clean up-to-date amenities including hot showers and a launderette. Half a mile from Newlands, the World Heritage village of Charmouth has shops, restaurants and pubs… and is also known for its hardy souls taking to the sea in fancy dress on Christmas Day.

We loved the pool here, not sure if the outdoor pool is heated in the summer but it wasn’t when we were there. However we used it for a bit of cold water swimming then into the sauna afterwards, lovely! The indoor pool was fab and the kids loved it.
Wonderful playground and shower block was clean with good hot water supply. Great pitch - we got battered by 40mph winds but that can’t be helped! The club house was great with good food and well thought out low key activities and entertainment for the children.

    Disliked:

Would have been nicer to be closer to the playground but we’ll request this next time. Not the fault of the site.

Hello Vicki, many thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us and hope that lots of family memories were made. The outdoor pool is heated in the summer but once we start getting bad weather, we do turn it off - it's still warmer than the sea though and great that you used it for cold water swimming. We look forward to welcoming you back to Newlands soon. Best wishes, Newlands Holidays

Hello! Wow, thanks so much for a great review with fab pictures! Halloween week at Newlands is definitely something that we look forward to every year. We worked hard to ensure that there were activities for both the adults and children all throughout the week, I will pass your comments on to the staff with the organising of this. It really is so lovely to hear that you are a returning guest. We can't wait to welcome you back next year! Best wishes, Newlands Holidays

Local attractions

Charmouth is the gateway to the Jurassic Coast and has some of the best fossils to be found in Dorset: the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre has fossil collections and guided fossil walks and is where you can proudly bring in your very own fossil find to be identified.

The beach is a 15-minute walk from Newlands: stroll from here to Lyme Regis keeping your head down for more fossily finds, then wander around Lyme to take a look at Cobb Harbour (made famous in Jane Austen’s Persuasion); buy freshly ground flour at the 14th-century watermill; amble along to at the ammonites, exhibitions and events at the museum, or tee off on the cliff at Lyme Regis Golf Club.

Mini fossil-hunters will likely be monster fans of the award-winning Dinosaur Museum at Dorchester, and taking a detour while in town to the Teddy Bear Museum. If they’re watery types, they’ll have a whale of a time at the Splashdown Water Park in Poole and the walk-through underwater tunnel at the Bournemouth Oceanarium.

Closer to Newlands and Dino Dan, families can see zebras and meerkats at the Axe Valley Wildlife Park, trundle along on the Seaton Tramway for a scenic trip through the estuary of the River Axe, or feed a shoal of fish at Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium.
