  • Family-friendly park just outside Charmouth on the Jurassic Coast
  • Pools, play areas and indoor play
  • Modern amenities including hot showers and a launderette
There’s nothing fossilised about a stay at Newlands Holiday Park, a stone’s throw away from the Jurassic Coast on the Devon/Dorset border, where the staff and facilities should cater to your every holiday need. For example, this lush place has two separate play areas for the mini guests. There's also an indoor heated pool – and an outdoor one with loungers so you can bask in the sun and wonder where the kids get all that energy… More? There's an indoor soft play area. Also use family-run Newlands as a base for a Lyme Regis fossil-hunting holiday or just lounge about on site; either way, epic times are on the cards. The 23-acre landscaped park has all the facilities you’d expect from a thoroughly modern site: internet access and clean up-to-date amenities including hot showers and a launderette. Half a mile from Newlands, the World Heritage village of Charmouth has shops, restaurants and pubs… and is also known for its hardy souls taking to the sea in fancy dress on Christmas Day.

Liked Clean site

Good fun for the kids with an arcade room and play activities outside

Disliked Shame you need to book and pay for the swimming pool with an app but it’s clearly displayed when booking so no major problem.
We had to wait 20 minutes for a guy in a golf card to show us our pitch when really reception could have just said which pitch number to go to. I don’t understand why this process is in place as at busy check in times it causes us to wait in the heat and blockages in the car park. When he showed us our pitch he did not tell us anything special so still unsure.

From the manager: Hi Mike,
Many thanks for your review. We are pleased to hear that you found our site to be clean and tidy and hope that many family memories were made. We have the warden to pitch our guests for a number of reasons. To be brief, it manages traffic around our site so not everyone is heading the same way at the same time. We do also have quite strict pitching rules in line with fire regulations so we have to ensure that guests are pitched correctly and also not all of our pitches are the same size so we double check that the pitches suit your needs at the same time. We do hope that this clears things up, however we do apologise for the wait.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Facilities, cleanliness

Disliked Top camping field is not level and I slid down the bed every night. Unofficial rave on Saturday night finishing about 8 in the morning. I know this isnt the responsibility of the site but apparently it is fairly regular so worth bearing in mind. Finding out that if I had booked directly rather than through Pitchup, I could have had 3 nights for the price of 2

From the manager: Hi Bob,
Many thanks for your review. We are pleased to hear that you found the site to be clean and tidy. We are sorry that you were disturbed by the off-site noise. This is completely outside of our control and can assure you that this is not a regular occurrence. We had staff working overnight to find the source of the rave and to get police on the scene as promptly as we could. We do hope that this hasn't put you off visiting us and we hope to welcome you back again.

Local attractions

Charmouth is the gateway to the Jurassic Coast and has some of the best fossils to be found in Dorset: the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre has fossil collections and guided fossil walks and is where you can proudly bring in your very own fossil find to be identified. The beach is a 15-minute walk from Newlands: stroll from here to Lyme Regis keeping your head down for more fossily finds, then wander around Lyme to take a look at Cobb Harbour (made famous in Jane Austen’s Persuasion); buy freshly ground flour at the 14th-century watermill; amble along to at the ammonites, exhibitions and events at the museum, or tee off on the cliff at Lyme Regis Golf Club. Mini fossil-hunters will likely be monster fans of the award-winning Dinosaur Museum at Dorchester, and taking a detour while in town to the Teddy Bear Museum. If they’re watery types, they’ll have a whale of a time at the Splashdown Water Park in Poole and the walk-through underwater tunnel at the Bournemouth Oceanarium. Closer to Newlands and Dino Dan, families can see zebras and meerkats at the Axe Valley Wildlife Park, trundle along on the Seaton Tramway for a scenic trip through the estuary of the River Axe, or feed a shoal of fish at Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium.
