Crows Nest Caravan Park

8.4

This park does not currently take bookings here on Pitchup.com.

General

  • Dog-friendly park five miles from Scarborough and 2.5 from Filey
  • Award-winning amenities block, family bathroom and launderette
  • Indoor heated pool, lounge bar, family bar, play area and supermarket

Feel free as a bird at award-winning Crows Nest Caravan Park between Scarborough and Filey – this well-maintained place is roomy, green and has sea views overlooking gorgeous Gristhorpe Bay and Scarborough Castle.

Crows Nest is five miles from Scarborough and two and a half miles from Filey, but if you’re taking a break from the seaside/ exploring the North Yorkshire coast there’s loads to do on site too: a lounge bar with entertainment in peak season to suit all ages and tastes, a family bar with pool tables, a games room, a play area for little fledglings and a heated indoor pool with poolside assistants during high season.

The award-winning amenities block a short walk from the tent field has free hot showers, wash basins, hairdryers and socket/shaver points, and there are also family bathrooms and a disabled-access shower room. Elsewhere on site there’s a pot wash area, launderette, chemical disposal point and a well-stocked supermarket. And, as you can’t come to the coast and not have fish and chips, there’s also a chippy takeaway open in high season (but do have more fish and chips in Scarborough too).

Bringing the family friend? Crows Nest Caravan Park is dog-friendly and dogs are allowed in the conservatory area of the lounge bar; there's also a dog park on site.

Site layout was good, all clean and tidy. The amenities were really good, nice showers and toilets all very clean. The bonus of the the lovely fish and chip shop, and bar open, as it was the last weekend open for the the year.
The pitches seemed well laid out and fairly level, with both power and water available for each pitch.
May even hire one of their statics for a short break in the near future.

    Disliked:

Receptionist seemed a bit disinterested when I came to check in, as she failed to mention the sites takeaway and pub were to be open over the weekend, had to discover this for ourselves.

Toilet and shower block had plenty of space and was clean. Fantastic views over the ocean from the site. Perfect location to visit different places such as Filey, Scarborough etc. Lovely little onsite pub with entertainment and football showing. Can't comment on the shop as it was shut. Lovely fish and chip shop but was bit expensive.

    Disliked:

Kids play room had a few arcades in but there were lights not working on some so you didn't know what you were pressing and there was no machine to get change for the machines. Bar staff weren't happy when asked if they could give change for the machines. My son got money stuck in one of the machines - had to wait 3 days for them to give it back. I know it was the end of the season but the staff were very miserable and you couldn't strike up conversation with them.

We liked the all service pitch on the cliff tops and the play area was good for my 6 year old and my niece who is 9.
The fish and chip shop was really nice as proper chips too.

    Disliked:

When we arrived there was no one on reception and the door was locked. It was only 1pm on a Wednesday.
The shop isn't open at all and neither was the swimming pool.
The amusements we less than basic too. There was not much lighting either. My Husband fell over as a result.

Local attractions

Leave the car behind: buses running between Scarborough and Bridlington pick up from the end of the Crows Nest Caravan Park drive and discount day tickets are available to keep more money for seaside rock.

The kids will probably clamour first for Scarborough’: there are the North Bay and South Bay beaches to bounce around as well as the traditional seaside fairground and donkey rides. But Scarborough’s also a hotspot for culture vultures, with the Scarborough Open Air Theatre, Scarborough Art Gallery and Rotunda Museum alongside regular festivals and events throughout the year.

Fab Filey is even closer: this Edwardian town has a five-mile stretch of sand and is backed by the peninsula and cliffs of Filey Brigg – this is the place to birdwatch and wildlife spot, with rockpools along the beach and many species of birds and beasts to see all year round. The 110-mile Cleveland Way starts here for hiking your way around Yorkshire’s history and heritage: Scarborough Castle, Whitby Abbey and Dracula tales, Mount Grace Priory and Rievaulx Abbey are all along the route.

Away from the seaside and vampires, puff between Whitby and Pickering on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, veer between villages in the North York Moors National Park or get citified around York and Hull, all within easy driving distance of Crows Nest.
