General

  • Take your pick of tent and motorhome pitches or hire a deluxe caravan
  • Award-winning facilities, including indoor heated pool
  • Pro-pooches, so feel free to bring your dog along too

Feel free as a bird at award-winning Crows Nest Caravan Park between Scarborough and Filey – you can pitch wherever you like in the roomy tent field and take your pick from pitches that are sheltered, gently sloping, flat or with a sea view overlooking gorgeous Gristhorpe Bay and Scarborough Castle. Not a tent fan? Crows Nest also has standard and luxury tourer/ motorhome pitches close to a toilet and shower block, or you can travel extra light and nest down in a fully-equipped deluxe caravan with TV, DVD player and Freeview.

Crows Nest Caravan Park is five miles from Scarborough and two and a half miles from Filey, but if you’re taking a break from the seaside/ exploring the North Yorkshire coast there’s loads to do on site too: a lounge bar with entertainment in peak season to suit all ages and tastes, family bar with pool tables, a games room, play area close to the tent field for little fledglings and a heated indoor pool with poolside assistants during high season. (Safety is also a priority in the tent field, which is next to the play area and fenced off from the clifftop.)

The award-winning amenities block a short walk from the tent field and has free hot showers, wash basins, hairdryers and socket/shaver points, and there are also family bathrooms and a disabled shower room. Elsewhere on site there’s a pot wash area, launderette, chemical disposal point and a well-stocked supermarket. And, as you can’t come to the coast and not have fish and chips, there’s also a takeaway (but do have more in Scarborough too).

Bringing the family friend? Crows Nest Caravan Park is dog-friendly and dogs are allowed in the conservatory area of the lounge bar.

Very good site and comfortable hire caravans. 30/09/2018

Our visit was towards the end of the season but we found the site clean and tidy, and the hire caravan was equipped with all essentials. It was also immaculate. We paid £8 for a bedding pack to save taking our own and found it had no duvet cover, but Reception staff gave us another pack without question. The 2nd pack had everything apart from one sheet. It seems the packs are sealed by the Laundry so it's not the site's fault. The Shower was a good size and worked efficiently. We found everything we needed in the Kitchen apart from a grill pan but we improvised with a roasting tin. We liked the fact there was a fish & chip shop on site. We didn't use the bar at all because it had no real ale. This was a comfortable break for us and there was no noise from others in the evening.

Pitch was great tv reception was very good
    Very nice and quiet.
Water in swimming pool red hot..had pool to ourselves
Views of the sea at the top of the site were stunning
Unable to comment on accommodation or child friendly as we had our own motorhome and no kids

    Disliked:

Didn’t realise we had to pay extra for swimming thought it was included...but for £2 each it was that bad especially as we had the pool to ourselves.

Views from tent were spectacular, toilet / shower facilities excellent and clean, entire site very neat, well kept and clean.

    Disliked:

Site does not allow large groups or single sex groups to avoid noise disturbance which is fine. What we had close by was 4 family groups which were permitted i.e. couples with young children who were together but arrived separately and set up camp together. This particular group on both nights of our stay spent the night in the bar complex till closing time with their kids and returned to their tents obviously well on with drink and noisy walking back past our tent. They continued drinking between their own tents, were very noisy and allowed their kids to run around making a lot of noise unchecked until after 12:30am. Myself and my partner and I presume anyone else close by had no chance of getting to sleep till then. These parents then, in the morning allowed their children to run around the tents making a racket unchecked at 6:30am waking us up are very angry. The site seemed very strict about who they let in to avoid disturbances so we could not understand why no staff or security had a walk around the site to check for this kind of thing and tell them to keep the noise down and control their children. This was the only thing that spoiled an utherwise faultless weekend at a lovely site.

Directions

Crows Nest Caravan Park is situated just off the main Scarborough to Filey coast road (A165), five miles south of Scarborough and two-and-a-half miles north of Filey.

From the north (Whitby)
Take the A171 road to Scarborough then join the A165 signposted to Filey. After five miles you will come to a roundabout with a Jet petrol station on the corner - turn left at this roundabout. We are then the second caravan park on the left.

From the north (Thirsk)
Take the A170 road to Scarborough then join the B1261 to Gristhorpe. Follow this road to the end: you will come to a roundabout with a Jet petrol station on the corner - go straight on at this roundabout. We are then the second caravan park on the left.

From the south
Take the M18 to the M62 (east) to Howden. Follow the A164 to Bridlington, then join the A165 road to Scarborough. Two-and-a-half miles north of Filey you will come to a roundabout with a Jet petrol station on the corner - turn right at this roundabout. We are then the second caravan park on the left.

From the west
Take the A64 road to Scarborough (via York). After a series of roundabouts turn right at the roundabout with a McDonalds restaurant on the corner, follow this road until you meet the B1261. Turn right here signposted towards Filey. Follow this road to the end: you will come to a roundabout with a Jet petrol station on the corner - go straight on at this roundabout. We are then the second caravan park on the left.

Local attractions

Leave the car behind: buses running between Scarborough and Bridlington pick up from the end of the Crows Nest Caravan Park drive and there are discount day tickets available to keep more money for seaside rock.

The kids will probably clamour first for Scarborough, Britain’s first seaside resort and the ‘Brighton of the north’: there are the North Bay and South Bay beaches to bounce around as well as the traditional seaside fairground and donkey rides, but Scarborough’s also a hotspot for culture vultures, with the Scarborough Open Air Theatre, Scarborough Art Gallery and Rotunda Museum alongside regular festivals and events throughout the year.

Fab Filey is even closer: this Edwardian town has a five-mile stretch of sand and is backed by the peninsula and cliffs of Filey Brigg – this is the place to birdwatch and wildlife spot, with rockpools along the beach and many species of birds and beasts to see all year round. The 110-mile Cleveland Way starts here for hiking your way around Yorkshire’s history and heritage: Scarborough Castle, Whitby Abbey, Mount Grace Priory and Rievaulx Abbey are all along the route.

There’s more birdwatching at Bridlington, with the RSPB reserve Bempton Cliffs nearby, but if that’s making the kids twitchy fly along to the town itself instead for bathing around the quay and promenading around the gardens, or go north from Scarborough for wacky Whitby, home of more delish fish and chips and guided tours on Captain Cook’s HMS Endeavour (don’t tell the kids it’s a replica).

Away from the seaside and vampires, puff between Whitby and Pickering on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, veer between villages in the North York Moors National Park or get citified around York and Hull, all within easy driving distance of Crows Nest.
