General

  • Small family-run site among five acres of green Lincs countryside
  • Families, couples, solo travellers and pets all welcome
  • Free range hens: help collect the eggs at laying time

Well now, this is a popular little place. 'Fab', 'beautiful' and 'brilliant' are but of a few of the plaudits that have been heaped on small, family-run and friendly South Farm Caravan Park, set deep in the Lincolnshire countryside a mile from colourful Sutton on Sea.

Families, couples and solo travellers are all welcome here, and dogs would likely give the farm an approving woof too: a dog exercise field is on site, many walks are nearby along the countryside lanes and fields, and the walks – and bike rides – of the Lincolnshire Wolds are very close by. The closest beach, Huttoft or Moggs Eye, has miles of dog-friendly sands for the pooch to let loose.

If you think the kids would like to canter, riding lessons and a pony club are at the equestrian centre next door to the farm; if they tend more towards a seaside vibe, Skegness is about 20 minutes away. (And if after that you tend towards a gentler vibe, the long wide open sands of peaceful Huffoft beach are within walking distance of the farm.)

Facilities at the farm include spotless shower and toilet blocks and a washing-up area. And – something else the kids might like – free range hens roam about and children are welcome to help collect the eggs at egg laying time.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

A charge of £0.50 applies for the use of shower.

Rental accommodation : electricity is not included in the rate and payable on site (coin-operated meter in place).

Basic site in a good location 09/05/2018

    Location - near to a dog-friendly beach

    Clean toilets

    Disliked:

The reception area wasn't easy to locate, and when we arrived they were closed for lunch although that wasn't advertised anywhere in our documentation. If we'd known in advance we would have adjusted our arrival time to avoid turning up at that time

The electricity kept cutting out at night. We had our fridge and a single light on, no phones charging or anything else on standby and even with that load it kept tripping.

    Location.

    Disliked:

The entrance to the site is very tight and narrow. Over hanging branches to contend with too. We actually damaged our caravan on the gate on the way out and witnessed another caravan getting damaged on the trees when they arrived.

From the manager...

This site has been a caravan site for over 20 years, we have only been here 3 years but never had anyone state there was a problem with the entrance as there are 2 to choose from.

Lovely site, a bit expensive for a solo camper 08/05/2018

Very clean and green site. Friendly people running it too.

    Disliked:

The shower pressure wasn't great and I only got as far as washing my hair before the electric box ran out (50p) and as the meters are outside the cubicles you have to run out to throw another 50p in.
Also quite noisy traffic through the night so may have been better in a caravan.
Found £29 a bit expensive for 2 nights on a basic pitch with no electric hook. Especially when your paying to use the showers.

From the manager...

Thank you for your feed back.
£29.00 is for the pitch not for the amount of people and for bank holiday or any other time I do not think we are over priced.
Showers and toilet blocks have to be maintained and cleaned therefore carrying a cost.
There is very little traffic at night and the pitch you did request as it was close to your friends staying in our static which is unfortunatly closer to the road.
Thank you for staying with us.

    Location, peaceful

    Disliked:

Every night at the same time our electric cut out, after having used the electric perfectly fine all day when it came to night time the electric seemed to play up. We were told it was due to too many items being on at one time but we only had our night time heater on...we were meant to have 16amp..Because of this it was extremely cold for us and our children. I won’t be returning to this site as it needs a bit of TLC.

    Sorry nothing to report.

    Disliked:

Electric kept going of and staying off all night. Nothing to do with us. All 5 tents that payed for electric on the top field couldn't even have a cup of tea in the morning. Our electric boxes never tripped.
The grass was to long so when it got cutt without a grass collector it was all over.
The entrances road was appalling the vehicle tracks where that deep our cars where strapping on the floor.

From the manager...

I think people need to realise that they are camping and are plugged into 16amps which can mean one item at a time. We came out over 10 tens to switch electric back on and was on at 630am every morning when we checked so I do not understand why you couldnt have a cup of tea.
As for grass the weather has been wetter than any other winter I have known therefore impossible to cut at times and you are in a field which you chose near to play area.
The track you came down vans approach from all the time with no problems so I am sorry you had problems with it.

Old couple on seasonal behind did nowt but bicker loudly all day. Their dog barked constantly and they just shouted at it.
Don’t let that put you off the site was great apart from them. I just wanted a bit of peace and quiet.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review. It was lovely to meet you sorry about the bickering.

    Central location for coastal resorts.

    Disliked:

only outlook was owners garden and carpark and side of shed .caravan would benefit from better preparation prior to our arrival as we found a leak to the boiler, (which the owner dealt with by providing a bin to catch the drips as a temporary measure) and later in our stay a leak from the toilet which seeped into the hall way under the mat which we didn't notice until it was wet enough to seep out from under the mat, this was when we were leaving. owner was told and said we should have reported it earlier! caravan seemed damp. maybe we were the first guests of the season but caravan should have been better prepared & aired. also a minor point is both doors needed to be locked to stay closed.
electric meter only takes old £1 coins which the owner has a supply of but seems to use a large amount in a short time. we had no hot water and very low water pressure at most times. we felt we didn't want to keep reporting things as we were supposed to be on a special birthday treat weekend away and didn't want the hassle! should have been fit for purpose!

Local attractions

This is a smashing spot for family and beach hols, with both Sutton on Sea and Huttoft beaches close by for colourful beach huts at the first and a peaceful relaxing vibe at the second. Skegness is an easy drive along the coast, and Mablethorpe and Ingoldmells are also easily accessible to the north and south.

Among the many other activities near the farm are the ambles and pedals of the Lincolnshire Wolds; sea and coarse fishing for slippery specimens like bass and mackerel, or day trips to Lincolnshire's small market towns like Alford, where there's also a war museum and a theatre.

Bargain hunters should also get along to one of Lincolnshire's many car boots sales, at Ingoldmells, Skegness and Mablethorpe on the coast and inland at Louth, Horncastle, Gainsborough and Hornbeach.
