  • Peaceful sole-use site set on a small field bordered by trees
  • A 10-minute drive from Chesterfield; 25 minutes from the Peak District
  • Cosy bell tent with woodturning stove, barbecue and firepit provided
The Bothie is a small and secluded site set in a peaceful Derbyshire field. Stays here are fully secure (with a lockable gate) and very private indeed, with just a single smart tent set up in these grassy surrounds (which, being west-facing, are something of a suntrap). The bell tent you'll be settling down in is high spec, with a woodburning stove, oven and cosy furnishings. The toilets and showers here are well-kept and in keeping with The Bothie's adventurous spirit – there's a dry composting loo sheltered by trees and a similarly wild battery-operated jungle shower (super for a refreshing scrub once you’ve got the knack). The materials used for all this kit are canvas, natural wood and stone. While you're free to get cooking in the tent, there are more food prep options on hand in the adjoining gazebo, where a gas-fired stove and a charcoal barbecue are stored. Firewood and other bits of fuel are provided to get you started. This spot may feel a world away from the toing and froing of busy roads, but it's actually about a five-minute drive from here to the speedy M1 and A617. That makes it all the easier to get here and, once unpacked, to get out and explore the surrounding area, whether you head for Chesterfield town centre and its far-famed crooked spire (10 minutes' drive) or the Peak District National Park (25 minutes). Closer to base, those looking for a sweet treat should head for the local honey farm that’s a few minutes' walk away. The nearest supermarket is 10 minutes' drive away.

Bell tent

Liked: Great set up and fantastic owners who went out of there way to make us all feel welcome and have everything we needed. Even had a cheeky home made cider on Sunday night which was great. The location is perfect for exploring the surrounding areas. Facilities well thought out and we had everything we needed including the jungle shower, which was fun. We loved the fact that the area was secure so Kids had freedom to run around. Was nice seeing them playing rather than being on electronics. Clear skies at night meant we had a perfect view of stars due to there not being much light in the area. ( apart from the fire pit and toasting marshmallows.) We will definitely be staying again as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Beautiful location, excellent facilities and lovely owners who were really helpful and friendly. Our two young children loved having space to run around and it was lovely to have the place to ourselves. The jungle shower was a lot of fun and we had everything we needed in the gazebo to cook meals in the evening. We hope to return again soon

Disliked: nothing
