Why here? Lucky enough to own a boat? Reedham Ferry Touring and Camping Park allows free use of its slipway. And even if you’re not visiting by vessel, it’s still worth booking a pitch for the spectacular riverside location in the Norfolk Broads. While relaxing by the water, keep an eye out for herons and kingfishers among the marshes. The site also has a private fishing lake stocked with carp, bream and rudd and you can fish for free from the banks of the River Yare.

Why here? If you’re seeking simplicity, Park Farm Camping will suit you down to a tee. It’s a classic dog- and family-friendly site surrounded by trees and meadows. Let the kids roam free here – there’s plenty of outdoor space – or whisk them into the adjacent woodland to build dens and pick up twigs for the campfire. A small play area keeps young campers busy and, as the site’s on a working farm, there are plenty of resident animals and passing wildlife to see. While this park is set blissfully away from main roads, it still has excellent access to a selection of amenities. Swanton Morley, a couple of minutes’ drive away, has a pub, deli, village shop, bakery, grocer and butcher.

Why here? Pack a rod and licence, because you can fish for carp, rudd, bream and more at Rectory Farm’s two pretty lakes. Look around as you wait for a catch; previous guests have spotted hawks, red kites and muntjac deer in this wildlife haven. While children aren’t allowed on site, dogs are welcome and have areas specially reserved for walks. They’re also permitted at the White Hart Inn in Hingham, a 10-minute wander away. Make a beeline for this village to stock up at the shops, bakery and butcher too.

The pitches and amenities are accessible, with thoughtfully placed ramps and level paths to help you get around. Speaking of getting around, the park is just 15 minutes from Fakenham market town and half an hour’s drive from Norfolk’s spectacular coastline.

Why here? This campsite on a family-friendly farm is a brilliant base for making the most of Norfolk's standout waterways. Hire a paddleboard or kayak from staff and take it to the River Bure, around a 15-minute wander away, or organise boat rides around the nearby Norfolk Broads. You can also stick to dry land if you prefer, taking the dog for walks on paths leaving straight from the site or setting off on cycling trips through lush woodland and along riverbanks. Sustain yourself for all these activities with meals at a pub 10 minutes' walk away. There are also takeaways and a supermarket in Coltishall (20 minutes away) and you can cook on the barbecue and campfire under Norfolk's big skies. Got a car? From Two Jays Farm you can reach Norwich in 20 minutes and the coast in half an hour.

Why here? This is a quiet campsite for an adults-only break close to market town amenities. It’s just 15 minutes’ walk from the centre of Swaffham along the Swaefas Way for sourcing supplies at the three local supermarkets or dining at the pubs and restaurants. Rural walks are also possible right from the grounds of Breckland Meadows Touring Park, and you can bring the dog as four-legged campers are welcome too. Wander or cycle along the 46-mile Peddars Way through thick woodland and open countryside, ending up at Holme-next-the-Sea on the north Norfolk coast.

Other motivating reasons to book at King's Lynn Caravan and Camping Park include the well-kept glamping accommodation, spacious pitches and excellent location on the edges of King’s Lynn. Visit this lovely Norfolk town to admire the 12th-century buildings, stroll along the river and learn about local maritime history at True’s Yard Fisherfolk Museum. You can eat at one of the upmarket restaurants or cook for yourself at your pitch using ingredients from the on-site shop (or the 24-hour supermarket less than five minutes’ drive away).

Explore it via the Marriott’s Way footpath, cycle path and bridleway, 10 minutes’ drive from Bylaugh Country Park. This campsite is also popular with cyclists as the red route of Norwich’s Pedalways bike path network is within easy reach. Whether you're pedalling through the countryside or taking in the Wensum Valley views from your pitch, it's tricky to believe you’re just 15 minutes’ drive from the urban amenities in Dereham market town.

While your pet tucks into dinner, consider what you'd like to eat. Perhaps a meal at your spacious pitch made with produce from the on-site farm shop or food at the on-site café? The park is conveniently located a 20-minute drive from Norwich’s top dining scene and half an hour from the sparkling waterways of the Broads.

Once camp wardens Barbara and Mike have settled you in at Manor Caravan Park, stroll down to the pale golden sand or explore further afield – the seaside resorts of Cromer and Great Yarmouth are about half an hour's drive away. Alternatively, stick to the campsite and rest in a calm atmosphere while the kids mess around in a play area located far enough away from the pitches to preserve the peace. Hungry? The nearest pub, five minutes’ walk away, serves food or you can order takeaway fish and chips at a local café (a five-minute drive).
