Reedham Ferry Touring and Camping Park: Pitches

General

  • Four-acre and level pub and riverside site on the Norfolk Broads
  • Private fishing lake in a wildlife haven
  • Free slipway use, barbecue area and food served by the fire

There are times when you just want a ferry relaxing break. Away from the hordes in the seaside resorts, alongside peaceful riverside scenery, and with the option on site of river fishing, lakeside fishing or just taking a pint of Woodforde Wherry to sup by the riverside and watch the ferry chug back and forth…

All, thoroughly, sorted. Reedham Ferry Touring and Camping Park is a pub site in the Norfolk Broads, with a private fishing lake available to guests to land carp, bream or rudd; you can also fish for free from the site on the banks of the River Yare.

The four-acre site is level and landscaped with views of the Norfolk countryside and marshes; if you’re not fishing, take your binoculars to the riverside to spy on the local herons, marsh harriers and kingfishers. And if you do want to be beside the seaside for a day, Great Yarmouth is about 11 miles away.

Pitches at Reedham Ferry include free use of the slipway if you’re bringing along a dinghy or two. There’s a barbecue area on site for putting together your own grub – or you could just sit by the fire in The Archers and have your dinner brought to you: a ferry good deal all round.

Please note

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Perfect for first time campers. I came with friends last summer on my 1st ever camp and thought it was just lovely. Small enough so you're not too far from the loos etc. Reedham is a lovely village and the post office tea rooms on the River front is a must to visit. My husband has never been camping so it seemed fitting that this was his first too. He was pleasantly surprised and said he'd come again! We saw all sorts of wildlife (London based) - friendly sheep, bats and a little deer (roe or muntjac?). The seaside towns of lowestoft and Gorleston are half hour or so away and are both worth a visit (the seals were very close to the shore in Gorleston which was incredible!) Both beaches were clean and had beautiful golden sand. There isn't a shop on site but the neighbouring village of Acle has a large Co-op and there's a shop in Reedham albeit a fair walk away.

    Disliked:

The showers could be cleaner and it would be great if there was a shop on site for basics like milk etc. There is a shop in reedham but it's either a half hour walk or drive away. And WiFi wasn't free - didn't bother me but teen would have preferred to have it (I refused to pay!)

Clean (and regularly re-cleaned) modern shower and toilet block, with plentiful loo roll (we always bring some, just in case lol) and nice hot showers.
Great location too, beside a very nice friendly pub with good food and a beautiful river.
Not too big, not too small, just right the right size for a campsite for us.
Good Wifi signal kept our daughter happy too, and not too expensive.

    Disliked:

Pigeons cooing in the trees overhead at 5 am!

Lovely area, quiet and small but with plenty of space, clean facilities.
We enjoyed the short walk along the river to Reedham village for an ice cream (the passionfruit sorbet was glorious!) And a drink by the swing Bridge.
Lots of wildlife to be seen and not far from attractions and the beach!

    Disliked:

There wasn't anything we disliked about this place at all, the only thing that could be improved is the amount of men's toilets, being only 2 it didn't quite seem enough but didn't affect our stay!

Nice site a short stroll from the river & a pub which does lovely Sunday roasts.

    Disliked:

Fishing was quite a walk, 2 gates to access while carrying all the fishing gear not easy.
Site very packed, although you get a pitch number people do just pitch wherever they like as nobody on site to organise so some are very close together & park very close to your vehicle.
Unsupervised children running, cycling & playing football round every ones vans screaming, shouting, crying....not good...
We were booked for 3 nights but only stayed for 1.

Toilet and shower blocks were filthy.
Cleaned by a male once a day, who regardless of anyone being in there toileting or showering would come in and start cleaning. Showers were on push buttons which had to be continually pressed. Light went out after being in there for limited period and wouldn't come on again. People on the toilet could be seen as the positron of toilets and entrances were exposed.

Local attractions

Walk along the river to Reedham village for fish and chips, Reedham Quay and more pubs: the Lord Nelson has free gigs most nights, or you could take the yard of ale challenge in The Ship – both pubs are dog-friendly and dish up huge portions of food. The Humpty Dumpty Brewery, one of the breweries supplying the site, has a shop selling its beer alongside local ciders and produce. For families, Pettitts Adventure Park is also in Reedham, with a kids' theatre and animals to feed and pet.

From Reedham, take the 12-mile cycle route starting from Reedham Quay and going through local towns and villages, or take the chain ferry across the River Yare to drive on through the countryside. But as it’s the Broads, a bit more mucking about in boats is definitely in order: as well as the vehicle ferry from the park itself, several companies in the area offer cruises and guided tours or you can go rowing, canoeing or sailing under your own steam.

Take the kids to goggle at the gibbons at Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens, just outside Great Yarmouth: the seaside town is about 11 miles from Reedham Ferry and will keep small fry entertained for hours (if not days) with its circus, Sea Life, seafront Golden Mile and 12 amusement arcades.

Must see

  • Fritton Lake Country World (4.4 miles)
  • Somerleyton Hall and Gardens (5.8 miles)
  • Pleasure Beach (8.2 miles)

National Trust

  • Elizabethan House Museum (8.0 miles)
  • Horsey Windpump (13.6 miles)
