Adults only area

General

  • Award-winning, peaceful rural site 15 minutes from Fakenham
  • Pitches and main facilities all wheelchair accessible
  • Half an hour's drive from the beaches of the Norfolk coast

The kilns may be old but the facilities – them’s all set for the 21st century. In fact, The Old Brick Kilns has got things so well sorted it’s even won awards for its offerings.

All your everyday needs have been considered by the thoughtful folk at this peaceful rural site: there's a token-operated launderette, a tourist info point stacked with handy pointers and a strong wifi signal across the park (hurrah – no moaning teens). The shop’s shelves are filled with various essentials and treats, and you can call in a day ahead to order a paper and fresh croissants for a leisurely breakfast.

If you’re here at the right time, site staff can sort your evening meals too: the bar-restaurant is usually open four nights a week in the main season, serving up fresh grilled fish and other local goodies (including ales and ciders) alongside stonebaked pizzas to take out.

Should you choose to loaf about on site for a bit (as indeed you should…) there are wildflower meadows to skip through and a fishing pond that you’re welcome to dangle your rod into for a small charge. A playground, table tennis, games room and library are all on hand for the entertainment of small people.

This nifty Norfolk location, 15 minutes from Fakenham, has you well placed for all sorts of outings too – beaches, nature reserves and stately homes are all within a half-hour drive.

Guests travelling with wheelchairs or buggies will be chuffed to note that this is a pleasingly accessible site, with plenty of ramps and firm pathways to aid manoeuvres around the place.

Lovely and beautiful campsite. Peaceful apart from airplane noise.03/09/2019

  • Electric grass tent pitch

  • Liked:

Beautiful site which is well maintained for mainly caravans and motor homes but with about 20 tent pitches. Pretty level with plenty of shelter of trees, if you wish. Friendly, helpful staff and owner. Good selection of products in the mini shop including ice creams. Excellent restaurant/bar which does not get rowdy due to clientele, with a good selection of food and very reasonably priced. Especially the wine! Stunning showers and toilet facilities, thermo showers which are free, light, bright and very clean. Washing up facilities, laundry room and chemical toilet disposal all clean and tidy. Lovely walks around the site. Dog friendly. Small play area with climbing construction and swing available for young children.

    Disliked:

The only issue I have is the noise of air traffic, often til late at night. I was really surprised no other reviews mentioned this? Staying for 3 nights, 2 of those had heavy traffic of commercial and military jets until 10.30pm with around a low flying (taking off) airplane every 3 minutes or so. I assume this is on the flight path from Norwich Airport? Being near the coast, jets give it full blast as soon as they get out to sea so it goes on forever. However, when the wind changed we did not have any noise after 6pm on our final night. Great for plane spotters (Stealth Bombers coming over) but not so good if you are trying for an early night.
Also, prices for WiFi are a bit steep.

From the manager...

We're glad you enjoyed your stay. We're not actually on a flight path to Norwich Airport but there is an RAF base in Norfolk and when they are on exercise, they fly right across the county and we imagine this is what you heard during your stay. We hope to see you again and thank you for your feedback.

Absolutely everything about this site was perfect.
The toilet/shower blocks were lovely and cleaned regularly. The hog roast on a Saturday evening is well worth a visit too. Breakfast is available daily at the restaurant, great for setting you up on leaving day. Dogs are allowed. The location is quiet at the end of a long winding single track lane with passing places. It’s a beautifully laid out site with a variety of pitch types.
There is also a lovely little fishing lake which you can buy day/week tickets for.
The location is perfect for exploring North Norfolk. Easy drive to Cromer and Wells-next-the-Sea.
    We will definitely be returning.
Thank you Old Brick Kilns for a memorable holiday.

The design was good we had plenty of space in the adults only field, the shop was well stocked, friendly staff

    Disliked:

The nearest shower block was too small, the showers were very busy. There were other shower blocks on site. The showers were swimming in water, the mop and bucket were dirty, in both the shower blocks I used. This was a great pity as the site itself was lovely.

We liked the fully serviced pitch we had in the Adults section. So relaxing not having to keep checking on fresh/waste water barrels! Liked the tiered way the site is laid out rather than a large field like some sites . Toilets/showers very clean though maybe one or two more might be useful. All in all, loved it and will definitely be back to carry on exploring the area.

Local attractions

The good folk of Norfolk know a thing or two about gorgeous coastlines, so it’s highly recommended that you bag a bit of beach time while you’re here: the great sandy swathes at Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham are both about half an hour away by car.

With coast comes wildlife, and the places to find creatures around here are the RSPB reserve at Titchwell Marsh (35 minutes’ drive) and the boat trips that leave Morston Quay (20 minutes) to see England’s biggest seal colony, which hangs out on or around Blakeney Point.

It’s not all about the coast, however – inland’s got plenty of treats to offer too: give the Queen a wave at Sandringham (half an hour’s drive), wander through 100 acres of fragrant lavender fields in Heacham (35 minutes) and sniff out some history at medieval Walsingham (15 minutes) or the stately homes Blickling Estate and Houghton Hall (both 25 minutes).

Must see

  • Shrine of our Lady of Walsingham (5.0 miles)
  • Mannington Gardens (8.6 miles)
  • Holkham Hall (9.6 miles)

National Trust

  • Blakeney National Nature Reserve (6.8 miles)
  • Sheringham Park (9.7 miles)
