General

  • Award-winning, peaceful rural site 15 minutes from Fakenham
  • Pitches and main facilities all wheelchair accessible
  • Half an hour's drive from the beaches of the Norfolk coast

The kilns may be old but the facilities – them’s all set for the 21st century. In fact, The Old Brick Kilns has got things so well sorted it’s even won awards for its offerings.

All your everyday needs have been considered by the thoughtful folk at this peaceful rural site: there's a token-operated launderette, a tourist info point stacked with handy pointers and a strong wifi signal across the park (hurrah – no moaning teens). The shop’s shelves are filled with various essentials and treats, and you can call in a day ahead to order a paper and fresh croissants for a leisurely breakfast.

If you’re here at the right time, site staff can sort your evening meals too: the bar-restaurant is usually open four nights a week in the main season, serving up fresh grilled fish and other local goodies (including ales and ciders) alongside stonebaked pizzas to take out.

Should you choose to loaf about on site for a bit (as indeed you should…) there are wildflower meadows to skip through and a fishing pond that you’re welcome to dangle your rod into for a small charge. A playground, table tennis, games room and library are all on hand for the entertainment of small people.

This nifty Norfolk location, 15 minutes from Fakenham, has you well placed for all sorts of outings too – beaches, nature reserves and stately homes are all within a half-hour drive.

Guests travelling with wheelchairs or buggies will be chuffed to note that this is a pleasingly accessible site, with plenty of ramps and firm pathways to aid manoeuvres around the place.

Friendly hosts, clean well maintained facilities. Lovely bar but didn't try restaurant this trip. Peaceful and quiet surroundings, with large pitches, and restful scenery.

    Disliked:

Terrible mobile coverage where we were pitched, can't speak for rest of the park. TV reception, coaxial cable need. But it is rural Norfolk and a break from technology isn't a bad thing

The fact that all pitches were hard standing which was a godsend as all the recent rain had made the grassed areas too soft.
The site was ideally suited for the event we were attending.

    Disliked:

Didn't fancy the fact that the site warned about the very narrow approach road, luckily we did not encounter other vehicles whilst having the van on. We did meet other vehicles most times we used the road solo.

Great facilities, friendly hosts. All you could possibly need has been thought off at the old brick kilns. Spacious all weather pitches, newly refurbished toilet blocks with underfloor heating and powerful showers. Even the the drinking water point and refuse area are undercover. On site restaurant and takeaway offering a good choice of menus.

Local attractions

The good folk of Norfolk know a thing or two about gorgeous coastlines, so it’s highly recommended that you bag a bit of beach time while you’re here: the great sandy swathes at Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham are both about half an hour away by car.

With coast comes wildlife, and the places to find creatures around here are the RSPB reserve at Titchwell Marsh (35 minutes’ drive) and the boat trips that leave Morston Quay (20 minutes) to see England’s biggest seal colony, which hangs out on or around Blakeney Point.

It’s not all about the coast, however – inland’s got plenty of treats to offer too: give the Queen a wave at Sandringham (half an hour’s drive), wander through 100 acres of fragrant lavender fields in Heacham (35 minutes) and sniff out some history at medieval Walsingham (15 minutes) or the stately homes Blickling Estate and Houghton Hall (both 25 minutes).

Must see

  • Shrine of our Lady of Walsingham (8.0 kilometres)
  • Mannington Gardens (13.8 kilometres)
  • Holkham Hall (15.5 kilometres)

National Trust

  • Blakeney National Nature Reserve (10.9 kilometres)
  • Sheringham Park (15.6 kilometres)
