General

  • Fish in five well-stocked onsite lakes
  • Pitches with lakeside views
  • Newly installed showers and loos with good disabled access

Fishing in East Anglia sounds pretty perfect to Pitchup.com. Serious fisherfolk angling for a fishing holiday in Norfolk should give serious consideration to Narborough Fisheries, on its own private 16-acre site to the west of the county and with fishing lakes flowing with chalk stream water from the River Nar.

Narborough Fisheries has five lakes available to guests: trout lakes Willow and Meadow; specimen carp lake Millers (an 11-pounder was landed here in 2014); general coarse lake Foresters, and the newly created match and coarse Ashford Lake filled with over 9000 fish.

Fishing is available from £7 per person for a day ticket lasting 12 hours on the coarse fishing lake (£1 off from Mondays to Thursdays) and up to £30 per person for a day on the trout fishing lake, which includes five trout to take plus five to catch and release.

Fishing pitches at Narborough are set along two of the lakes with pretty perfect lakeside views. The shower and loo block was fully updated in 2014 and like the rest of the site is kept to high standards; the Narborough owners have also added a small tackle shop on site selling drinks, sweets and other essentials. Just remember to bring your Environment Agency rod licence.

Ian is such a nice man. Very tidy site, peaceful and full of nice people. Fishing is great for all levels. Been twice and will now be a regular!

    Disliked:

The hall next door has weddings on the weekend which can be noisy late at night but soon ignores it. Would be good if there was a local pub.

The site is lovely and small. Only approximately 18-20 caravan pitches, some of them seasonal so not many people. The site is set around fishing lakes and trout farm so very peaceful and beautiful to look at watching the wildlife. The owners are friendly and accommodating, they take great care to kept the site looking it's best.

This site is great if you want a quiet fishing break. There is only the fishing on site so unless you are taking older children with an interest in fishing there isn't anything for children to do. We took our two young teens which was ok our son had a few days fishing with his dad while our daughter crafted in the caravan with myself which was lovely. I wouldn't recommend taking young children with lots of energy to burn off unless you are planning on plenty of days out.

This site would definately suit adults wanting a break away and families with mature older children that can entertain themselves in a sensible manner so not to disturb the fisherman coming onto the site for day fishing.

We thoroughly recommend this site it is ideal for what we like in a site.

    Disliked:

Not a complete dislike but I was unsure of there only being 1 shower in each toilet but for the size of the site, it wasn't a problem and we never had to wait for the shower.

There is a garage or workshop on the next property which runs alongside some of the caravan pitches. This did cause some problems with dust from some works being carried out on the building and another day they were due to be making a lot of noise but the site owners made us aware in good time and we made plans to take the children out for the day, my husband was more concerned that the noise would unsettle the fish.

Local attractions

Fishing, fishing, nature reserves, the north Norfolk coastline and watery sports: what a lot of activities there are to catch in this part of East Anglia.

King's Lynn is about nine miles away and has several fisheries owned or managed by the King's Lynn Angling Association to cast off for carp, zander, bream, roach, perch and pike along the Great Ouse and other watery locations; access some via Magdalen Bridge, Ten Mile Bank, Downham Market and Denver Sluice among many others.

Away from the rod, take the budget-friendly local bus from Narborough village east to comely Norwich for a day among its Lanes and historic market for shopping, and a look at as many as possible of the Norwich 12, the city's historic buildings, as can possibly be fitted in on a day trip.

(If you only have time for a couple, the obvious two are Norman Norwich Castle, which includes the Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery, and Norwich Cathedral with its rather splendid large cloisters.)

Going west, pick the cathedral city of Peterborough for another day trip: alongside its twelfth century cathedral we'd also recommend a potter among the quarter of a million or so exhibits of the Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery, watersports on the lakes at Nene Park, a puff on the Nene Valley Railway between Peterborough Nene Valley and Yarwell Junction, and a night out at the Key Theatre, where shows of all sorts run all year.

Also get hooked on the wildlife and sumptuous scenery in the area, with a trip to the nearest nature reserve, the Norfolk Wildlife Trust's chalk grassland of Narborough Railway Line, or a wildlife-spotting float around the Norfolk Broads, easily accessible from Norwich.

Must see
