  • Dog-friendly Norfolk site with relaxing fishing lakes and a woodland
  • Half an hour’s drive from Thetford Forest’s Go Ape and High Lodge
  • Catfish, carp, tench, silverfish and more over five well-stocked lakes
Anglers and adventurers, get ready, because Fendicks Fishery is a stunning Norfolk site with five well-stocked fishing lakes and a mature woodland, just half an hour’s drive from Thetford Forest. Out there, there’s plenty of adventuring to be done, with High Lodge and its Go Ape centre as a good starting point. There's a well-balanced atmosphere at this site, as the team have worked hard over the years to manage and landscape the grounds so that there’s a good combination of nature and fishing. Anglers have access to five lakes with a variety of fish up for grabs, including catfish (weighing in at over 95 lbs), carp, tench, silverfish and more. With 32 acres of mature woodland surrounding the lake, peaceful and scenic are two words that accurately Fendicks Fishery. Plus, there’s a splendid set-up in terms of facilities, with a toilet and shower block that’s kept toasty by underfloor heating, a washing-up area, washing machines, information room, Elsan points and the reception area. All the grassy pitches have access to electric hook-up (how handy). When you’re not unwinding around the acres of space around this well-kept site or spending an afternoon fishing, you could take off onto the miles of paths around Thetford Forest or head further out onto the Norfolk coast, which will take you around an hour’s drive or just over.

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked: Great little campsite, kids loved it - lots of freedom for them and was great to see them building dens and mucking around without tech. We stayed in the butterfly Shepherds hut, but met up with friends who had caravans and was great that we had plenty of space for all 13 of us and 3 dogs to sit about and have a fire. The beds were super comfortable in the hut too, and the amenities were spot on for what you would need. The lakes were lovely, and very peaceful. The toilets and showers were very clean at all times, the food in the restaurant was very nice and reasonably priced. Overall I look forward to coming back again sometime soon.

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked: Pitch availability, location, clean and tidy facilites (until some others staying treated the place like a cheap holiday camp) great staff and the bar/restaurant has brilliant food at good prices

Disliked: Some campers and their lack of respect! Drives me insane! I can never understand why you would use facilities and not clean up after yourself. I could never run a place like this with these kind of people, staff must have the patience and kindness of saints.....someone was playing loud music all night and must have passed out at 6 am as this was when it stopped.....

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked: Great site that we visited for a night in our tent in order to attend a motorbike show event that also had some live music, but also to suss out for future visits with our caravan. The site itself has a nice laid-back feel about it, with the added benefit of 5 fishing lakes, a bar, and a cafe. The staff are helpful and the facilities clean. We had breakfast in the cafe which was excellent and everything was very reasonably priced.

Disliked: Nothing

Maple camping pod

Liked: Maple pod was a delight to stay in! Very well done and to a high standard, it was cosy and comfortable and big enough for us to take a travel cot for our 1 year old. The fence round the garden was ideal for our little girl to play whilst daddy fished and the cabin actually came with more amenities than expected - kettle, toaster, microwave grill (although missing instructions so I didn't use) and hot plate. The cabin was clean and fresh with a reasonable shower. The on site cafe served really good food and were very accomodating. It's a lovely place to eat and has been very well done.

Disliked: I have no dislikes about the cabin but as this was booked as a fishing trip I will comment on that. I feel that the fisheries would now be better classed as a campsite with a few fishing lakes. Whilst all the cabins look very well and thoughtfully done, it was a very busy site with campers, caravans and guests. There was a motorbike rally on the Saturday, which whilst this was a fantastic event, it did take away from the "peaceful and quite" ideals of fishing lakes, with lots of bikes moving around all day and especially with the live bands late into the night. The cafe and bar are a great addition but they are popular and some noise can be heard across the site in the evenings. We booked swim 9 on lake 3 as this was closest to our cabin and there is a constant stream of people passing by to visit the cafe and to walk round the site. Whilst everyone was pleasant, again it took away from the ideals of a quiet fishing trip. The lakes seem to have a few too many swims on them for their sizes. Whilst the weekend hasn't put us off returning, it would certainly make us think twice about the time of year we went, and we would double check for any events taking place and try to avoid them.

Local attractions

Head to High Lodge (half an hour’s drive) to kickstart your tour of Thetford Forest. There are all sorts of ways to become one with the forest, from hiring out a Segway, taking an archery lesson or finding your zen with forest yoga. Go Ape Thetford (half an hour) will require a little bravery and some acrobatic skills for its treetop courses and zipwires, but on the ground, there are three cycling trails and four footpaths to follow from High Lodge. If you’re looking to find some places where the kids are likely to be entertained, Banham Zoo (35 minutes) is one such place, as are Melsop Farm Park (35 minutes) and Church Farm Stow Bardolph (15 minutes), two farm parks with a variety of animals and farm-style activities. A day at the coast is also possible from this site… just pick your seafront of choice. Perhaps Hunstanton (55 minutes) and Cromer (an hour and 20 minutes) to the north, or Great Yarmouth (an hour and 10 minutes) to the east? Towards the coast is Bressingham Steam & Gardens (40 minutes), a nice choice to see working steam locomotives in the flesh.
