Fendick's Fishery: Pitches lakeside

General

  • Dog-friendly Norfolk site with relaxing fishing lakes and a woodland
  • Half an hour’s drive from Thetford Forest’s Go Ape and High Lodge
  • Catfish, carp, tench, silverfish and more over five well-stocked lakes

Anglers and adventurers, get ready, because Fendicks Fishery is a stunning Norfolk site with five well-stocked fishing lakes and a mature woodland, just half an hour’s drive from Thetford Forest. Out there, there’s plenty of adventuring to be done, with High Lodge and its Go Ape centre as a good starting point.

There's a well-balanced atmosphere at this site, as the team have worked hard over the years to manage and landscape the grounds so that there’s a good combination of nature and fishing. Anglers have access to five lakes with a variety of fish up for grabs, including catfish (weighing in at over 95 lbs), carp, tench, silverfish and more.

With 32 acres of mature woodland surrounding the lake, peaceful and scenic are two words that accurately Fendicks Fishery. Plus, there’s a splendid set-up in terms of facilities, with a toilet and shower block that’s kept toasty by underfloor heating, a washing-up area, washing machines, information room, Elsan points and the reception area. All the grassy pitches have access to electric hook-up (how handy).

When you’re not unwinding around the acres of space around this well-kept site or spending an afternoon fishing, you could take off onto the miles of paths around Thetford Forest or head further out onto the Norfolk coast, which will take you around an hour’s drive or just over.

Please note

If reception is closed on arrival: please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

A cable measuring at least 20 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

We absolutely loved our stay at Fendicks, we stayed in Maple and have to say it was immaculate and very warm once heater is on. The fencing makes it secure and was perfect for our dogs, the breakfast was fantastic and we could take back to pod too. Lisa and the gang are very friendly and will do anything for you to make your stay perfect. We will definitely be coming back again very soon.

    Disliked:

The only downside is I was disappointed to see how low the water was in the lakes and how many swims there was considering how small the lake is and how big the fish go.

The Camping was perfect, loved being able to park up anywhere on the site next to to a lake. The fishing however was very difficult as the banks were sloping and a six foot drop down to the waters edge because of low water levels. This made it uncomfortable to fish on an angle as I don't have an adjustable legged chair. The other issue was how to land a fish when the water was so far away from the bank. I managed to land a 12 pounder in beautiful condition but it was hard to get the fish to flat ground to unhook and to return the fish safely. I suggest they dig some level pegs/swims into the bank to make things easier. Don't drop anything on the bank by the way as it's just going to roll into the ponds. Staff great and friendly and camping fine though. Will keep an eye out online to see if they do something about the low water levels and sloping swims before I book again.

Great staff, especially Lisa who made the kids feel like rock star fishermen. Good fishing on lake 3 and then 2 for the kids. Facilities are good, toilets clean and serviced. We did not use the cafe as the caravan was already stuffed with food but looked nice. We will be back soon.

    Disliked:

Banks are fairly steap, perhaps a few cut steps or sleepers in the future would be good.

Local attractions

Head to High Lodge (half an hour’s drive) to kickstart your tour of Thetford Forest. There are all sorts of ways to become one with the forest, from hiring out a Segway, taking an archery lesson or finding your zen with forest yoga. Go Ape Thetford (half an hour) will require a little bravery and some acrobatic skills for its treetop courses and zipwires, but on the ground, there are three cycling trails and four footpaths to follow from High Lodge.

If you’re looking to find some places where the kids are likely to be entertained, Banham Zoo (35 minutes) is one such place, as are Melsop Farm Park (35 minutes) and Church Farm Stow Bardolph (15 minutes), two farm parks with a variety of animals and farm-style activities.

A day at the coast is also possible from this site… just pick your seafront of choice. Perhaps Hunstanton (55 minutes) and Cromer (an hour and 20 minutes) to the north, or Great Yarmouth (an hour and 10 minutes) to the east? Towards the coast is Bressingham Steam & Gardens (40 minutes), a nice choice to see working steam locomotives in the flesh.

Must see

  • Grimes Graves (6.8 miles)
  • Castle Acre Castle (12.3 miles)
  • Ely Cathedral (15.8 miles)

National Trust

  • Oxburgh Hall (2.6 miles)
  • St George's Guildhall (15.7 miles)
