Fendick's Fishery: Pitches lakeside

General

  • Dog-friendly Norfolk site with relaxing fishing lakes and a woodland
  • Half an hour’s drive from Thetford Forest’s Go Ape and High Lodge
  • Catfish, carp, tench, silverfish and more over five well-stocked lakes

Anglers and adventurers, get ready, because Fendicks Fishery is a stunning Norfolk site with five well-stocked fishing lakes and a mature woodland, just half an hour’s drive from Thetford Forest. Out there, there’s plenty of adventuring to be done, with High Lodge and its Go Ape centre as a good starting point.

There's a well-balanced atmosphere at this site, as the team have worked hard over the years to manage and landscape the grounds so that there’s a good combination of nature and fishing. Anglers have access to five lakes with a variety of fish up for grabs, including catfish (weighing in at over 95 lbs), carp, tench, silverfish and more.

With 32 acres of mature woodland surrounding the lake, peaceful and scenic are two words that accurately Fendicks Fishery. Plus, there’s a splendid set-up in terms of facilities, with a toilet and shower block that’s kept toasty by underfloor heating, a washing-up area, washing machines, information room, Elsan points and the reception area. All the grassy pitches have access to electric hook-up (how handy).

When you’re not unwinding around the acres of space around this well-kept site or spending an afternoon fishing, you could take off onto the miles of paths around Thetford Forest or head further out onto the Norfolk coast, which will take you around an hour’s drive or just over.

Please note

If reception is closed on arrival: please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

A cable measuring at least 20 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality flashlight with them as parts of the park are unlit.

Friendly, flexible site. Great fishing well kept clean and tidy. Toilets, showers, washing up area. Laundry service bar and cafe very reasonable priced even paying the extra for electric. Always someone around to give a helping hand if required. Will definitely book again was totally chilled and dog friendly.

    Disliked:

Other campers who didn't follow rules and left showers in bad state after using them. In saying that they didn't ruin our stay... suggestion put cleaning mops etc in shower area for users ... remind others dogs are to be on lead at all times. Could do with another laundry service for back pitches.

I stayed for a bank holiday weekend with my 6 year old daughter as a birthday treat.
The site is clean, the cafe serves a nice breakfast at a fair price. The toilet block, washing up area etc are all clean.

Our pod (butterfly) is one of the best we have stayed in. Having beds made for arrival, a fridge, microwave and little heater meant we could travel lighter and still be comfortable.

    Disliked:

If I was to be really picky, I'd say an adventure park for little ones would be an added bonus, and not having someone pitch up on the swim directly outside the cabin would have left a nicer view in the morning, but the fisherman was friendly so it wasn't really a bother

Local attractions

Head to High Lodge (half an hour’s drive) to kickstart your tour of Thetford Forest. There are all sorts of ways to become one with the forest, from hiring out a Segway, taking an archery lesson or finding your zen with forest yoga. Go Ape Thetford (half an hour) will require a little bravery and some acrobatic skills for its treetop courses and zipwires, but on the ground, there are three cycling trails and four footpaths to follow from High Lodge.

If you’re looking to find some places where the kids are likely to be entertained, Banham Zoo (35 minutes) is one such place, as are Melsop Farm Park (35 minutes) and Church Farm Stow Bardolph (15 minutes), two farm parks with a variety of animals and farm-style activities.

A day at the coast is also possible from this site… just pick your seafront of choice. Perhaps Hunstanton (55 minutes) and Cromer (an hour and 20 minutes) to the north, or Great Yarmouth (an hour and 10 minutes) to the east? Towards the coast is Bressingham Steam & Gardens (40 minutes), a nice choice to see working steam locomotives in the flesh.

Must see

  • Grimes Graves (10.9 kilometers)
  • Castle Acre Castle (19.8 kilometers)
  • Ely Cathedral (25.4 kilometers)

National Trust

  • Oxburgh Hall (4.1 kilometers)
  • St George's Guildhall (25.3 kilometers)
