Fendick's Fishery: Pitches lakeside (photo added by manager on 08/03/2022)

General

  • Dog-friendly Norfolk site with relaxing fishing lakes and a woodland
  • Half an hour’s drive from Thetford Forest’s Go Ape and High Lodge
  • Catfish, carp, tench, silverfish and more over five well-stocked lakes

Anglers and adventurers, get ready, because Fendicks Fishery is a stunning Norfolk site with five well-stocked fishing lakes and a mature woodland, just half an hour’s drive from Thetford Forest. Out there, there’s plenty of adventuring to be done, with High Lodge and its Go Ape centre as a good starting point.

There's a well-balanced atmosphere at this site, as the team have worked hard over the years to manage and landscape the grounds so that there’s a good combination of nature and fishing. Anglers have access to five lakes with a variety of fish up for grabs, including catfish (weighing in at over 95 lbs), carp, tench, silverfish and more.

With 32 acres of mature woodland surrounding the lake, peaceful and scenic are two words that accurately Fendicks Fishery. Plus, there’s a splendid set-up in terms of facilities, with a toilet and shower block that’s kept toasty by underfloor heating, a washing-up area, washing machines, information room, Elsan points and the reception area. All the grassy pitches have access to electric hook-up (how handy).

When you’re not unwinding around the acres of space around this well-kept site or spending an afternoon fishing, you could take off onto the miles of paths around Thetford Forest or head further out onto the Norfolk coast, which will take you around an hour’s drive or just over.

There is also a café on the fishery site named Hubbles, which is closed on Wednesdays and has a varied and changing schedule of opening times throughout the remainder of the week, including weekends.

Please note

If reception is closed on arrival: please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

A cable measuring at least 20 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Loved this place. We were looking for a weekend away and chose this as it wasn’t too far from where we were travelling from. First visit and had a great welcome. We had a Vw camper and pitches are very generous. We used about £1 in electric and was refunded what we didn’t use and had paid for. We could choose our own pitch depending on our needs. We chose near toilet block by the lake. Lovely and quiet in the day and great entertainment in the evening with a fantastic singer followed by The Heathen band who were amazing . We were told of this prior to booking but we liked the sound of this so went ahead. It was very loud but added to atmosphere and it did end about 11.30. We had burger and chips in the cafe that was really lovely and good value for money. The bar is kid friendly and lots of children dancing to the music and having fun. We also did some local cycling on our bikes around the area and it’s not too far from Thetford forest. Fishing was ok caught a few carp so that was good. It was £10 each for a day ticket . Toilets were fine as was the showers. We stayed 2 nights for a nice weekend break and really enjoyed it. Very chilled out and relaxed atmosphere. Lisa is a fantastic host and nothing was too much trouble. All in all loved this place and will def be returning.

Noise from main road close by, only two showers snd three toilets for the site that were not cleaned each day so bin overflowing all weekend. As illegal rave in a field next door spoilt our stay but out of site owners control we know.

From the manager...

Hi Carole. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, we do take our guests comments on board. Were glad you appreciated how beautiful and tidy the site was and how nice Hubbles was. The road noise is slightly out of our hands however when you arrive you get to choose your own pitch so maybe you should have taken the road noise into consideration before setting up. We are very relaxed here and if you wanted to move pitch that would have been absolutely fine. There are actually 2 toilet blocks onsite so in total we have 7 showers, 9 toilets and 5 urinals so its a shame you feel that isn't enough for such a small site. There are also another 2 toilets in the bar area. The toilets are cleaned twice a day and i actually have cleaning rotas to prove this. Your quite quick to write about our so called 'faults' online, you should have come and told us whilst you were here so we could sort the things that were in our control. One thing your right about is the rave that took place, we have apologised publicly even though it was nothing to with our site. So sorry if it spoilt your stay.

    Disliked:

Big drop in the running of site. new shower block lovely but..toilets cleaned only once in a week & showers cleaned twice. cleaner was observed playing radio and sitting in end loo doing nothing by another site visitor on the big clean day Friday. Another woman told me she saw one particular lady carting around all day, all week and assumed she was cleaner but couldn't understand why the toilets hadn't been cleaned. Bins in the block over flowing not emptied all week either. On previous visits plenty of staff carting around to observe nuisance visitors but not this time. One family boys throwing stones in lake from gravel path, slapping water with rods, fighting, husband and wife had punch up swearing shouting etc. One couple In a tent played radio so loud we could hear it with our door and windows closed and tv turned up to 63! Still heard it. Very disrespectful of other holidayers. On Friday when it gets packed lots of arrivals... one couple arrived and site worker, I assumed, as he was showing them where to pitch..blatantly told them "play your music loud if you wish in fact, if I can hear it even better(pointing to his caravan pitched on shower block wall), I don't presume he knew I was standing behind him at the time and the lovely couple looked after him as he departed as if to say
    WHAT!.
Final straw ..not the owners fault
but off putting just the same, was loud music, live band and then 80s music played Friday night until 3am Saturday coming from an adjoining field. Saturday lunchtime rave music pounding loud started up again, needlesss to say we packed up and left a few days early. We usually love and recommend this venue, but have sadley decided not to return as we don't wish our holidays to be ruined.
Such a shame, but think staff need observing closer, and definately rethink the new electric system of pay as you go. Using just a small fridge making 3 cups of tea a day ..watching a movie for 1.5 hours in the evening ate approx 30 quid in 4 Days we dont spend 50 a month in our house and thats clothes washing machine showers and tv 5 hours at night.... lord knows what it would be if a fan was needed in mid summer. Happy to pay a higher nightly fee as other sites... 25 quid ...30 with electric included as other sites. I think the balls been dropped here. Lots good reviews but from pod stayers. The people at least 6,,, who spoke with us during the week said "first & last" such a shame

From the manager...

Hi. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review however there are always two sides to a story so i will go through your review and try to answer every single part of it.
To say there is a drop in the running of the site is ridiculous, we now employ approx 20 staff as jobs constantly need doing to make every holiday makers stay that bit better.
We have 4 cleaners and they all have different jobs, there is one particular lady who does just the toilet and shower blocks, she does this to a very high standard and they ARE done every single day so are the showers. To say she was 'observed' by another visitor sitting in the toilet listening to music is utter rubbish. Maybe you shouldn't believe everything you are told. The bins are emptied every Monday and Friday so to say they weren't emptied for a week is beyond me as you were only here for 4 nights so how do you work that out? Maybe another 'visitor' told you that too? The other cleaners clean the cabins so will be 'carting' about most of the day doing their job, cleaning.
You also said that other holiday makers were noisy, arguing, being loud, why didn't you come and speak to one of us and we could have sorted that out straight away?
As for the site worker, he does have a quirky sense of humour and we pride ourselves on being a bit different and having a laugh, at the end of the day people on holiday normally like to laugh!
Going to the electric, were you in a caravan? If so most caravans have a leisure battery which will constantly charge whilst you are plugged in to the mains, also if you had a heater on or hot water heater then that will also pull a lot of electric to constantly heat water. It does seem high as most people don't use that much so i will look in to that. Thanks for the business advice however if i charge £5 extra per night and like yourselves people are using £30 in 4 nights then Iam going to constantly be out of pocket. Perhaps when you go away again you should try using gas as that is much more cost effective. Thank you for understanding that the music was nothing to do with us and we can only apoloigise for the upset caused to you, but again its completely out of our control. The ball certainly hasn't been dropped here, our team of hard workers strive to keep that ball high in the air. Once again thanks for your feedback.

The site had plenty of working, clean toilets, showers, and drinking water stations which was a welcome treat for camping. There was a café and bar on site that served great food and the setting was beautiful. We had some friends with us who hadn’t camped before and were a little nervous but this was the perfect site for them!

It was also lovely for the dogs we had with us. There were enough other dogs there that we never felt uncomfortable bringing them around with us, but the site was spaced out enough that at our tent we could leave them on long leads without worrying about any dogs starting a fight.

The owners were really friendly and kept us in the loop when they found out there was a rave happening a few fields over. They were also helpful with suggesting how much electricity we might need and refunding what we don’t pay.

If you’re planning to stay here bear in mind that it is right on the fishing lakes so bug spray is probably a good idea

Local attractions

Head to High Lodge (half an hour’s drive) to kickstart your tour of Thetford Forest. There are all sorts of ways to become one with the forest, from hiring out a Segway, taking an archery lesson or finding your zen with forest yoga. Go Ape Thetford (half an hour) will require a little bravery and some acrobatic skills for its treetop courses and zipwires, but on the ground, there are three cycling trails and four footpaths to follow from High Lodge.

If you’re looking to find some places where the kids are likely to be entertained, Banham Zoo (35 minutes) is one such place, as are Melsop Farm Park (35 minutes) and Church Farm Stow Bardolph (15 minutes), two farm parks with a variety of animals and farm-style activities.

A day at the coast is also possible from this site… just pick your seafront of choice. Perhaps Hunstanton (55 minutes) and Cromer (an hour and 20 minutes) to the north, or Great Yarmouth (an hour and 10 minutes) to the east? Towards the coast is Bressingham Steam & Gardens (40 minutes), a nice choice to see working steam locomotives in the flesh.
