General

  • Wildlife haven among open fields: walk to the beach in two minutes
  • Basic and peaceful site just behind the coast path
  • Barbecues and campfires both allowed: shop a minute's walk away

The splendid beach near Hunstanton Camping and Glamping (dog-friendly Heacham beach, two minutes' walk away) is the only east-coast beach in Britain facing west. This means that guests here are often treated to the sight of a spectacular sunset over the sea – a real rarity for Norfolk.

As well being a romantic sunset spot, this location is also a very enticing one for watersports enthusiasts, hikers and families – plus dog owners, who are welcome to bring their pet along for a holiday and a ramble along the Norfolk coast.

Hunstanton Camping and Glamping is on the edge of the village of Heacham, in a peaceful wildlife haven surrounded by open fields. It's three miles from here to Snettisham, five to Hunstanton and 10 miles to Thornham, all with dog-friendly beaches and walks aplenty, or you could feel regal for the day with a trip to Sandringham – and its woodland walking paths – within 15 minutes' drive.

The site has a good selection of amenities including toilets (ladies', gents' and unisex facilities), four indoor unisex showers and a number of outdoor showers. Grey waste water disposal and chemical disposal are available for touring guests, and plug sockets in washrooms mean you can charge phones or use hairdryers easily enough.

Barbecues and campfires are both allowed; a local shop a minute's walk away has most supplies you should need.

This was our first ever time staying in a campervan and we chose the location as we knew the area. Ideally located for Heacham beach, just a short walk away, the site was perfect for dipping our toe into campervan life.
Nigel the host was super helpful and showed us around the site.
Toilet facilities were being upgraded (it was out of season) but still functional. Showers were clean and warm.
Thanks for making our adventures into camper life a good one.

I guess it’s within a 3 mile drive of snettisham which is the reason for visiting but other than that not many positives, sadly.

    Disliked:

This campsite is vastly over priced for what it is. £40 per night for an electric pitch is not comparable to other campsites nearby all with much better facilities and also near the sea too. This site feels tired and unloved, the showers weren’t that clean, there were plastic sacks of dying plants dotted around and it didn’t feel all that welcoming. I also booked an extra night by accident and the owners wouldn’t reimburse me for that despite me booking an extra night at the beginning of my stay so I could arrive a day early. I won’t be staying here again. It’s sad that the owners don’t seem to be taking these negative reviews on board and instead seem to be defensive and justifying that because it’s near to the beach that that is all that matters. There is more to running a campsite than that and customers need to feel listened to. I also cannot for the life of me understand why they charge so much and for every little thing. You also can’t arrive before 5pm despite check out being at 11. Why when there’s not much prep to be done for change overs? All in all a very disappointing experience.

From the manager...

Thank you Caroline for taking the time to leave a review, we are pleased that you enjoyed our great location. We have a back-to-the-wild campsite for campers who prefer to camp away from the manicures holiday parks. At this time of year, we do allow our native plants and grass to grow a little and refrain from too much pruning to help out the local wildlife. We very much appreciate our guest's opinions and we strive to make the changes our guests want, sometimes we miss the mark and we are sorry on this occasion our cancellation policy was not to your liking, it is available for all guests to view on our website.

    Disliked:

The site is a bit shabby for the price. The toilets never had loo roll and didn’t smell great; the pitches aren’t very well defined and it just looks uncared for.

From the manager...

Thank you Bernadette for your review, we are pleased that you enjoyed our great location just a 2 minute walk from Heacham South Beach and in close proximity to Snettisham, Wild Ken Hill and Hunstanton. We are a back to basic campsite, and with the season now coming to a close we are letting out grass grow out for the local wildlife. We price ourselves on cleanliness and we are sorry for your experience, we hope that the issue was reported right away for our housekeeping team to amend. It was a pleasure to host you and although you will not visit us again, we hope that you enjoyed the Norfolk Coast :)

Waste land strip of badly kept grass, mole hills everywhere, broken pallets, fence posts lying around.
The showers had no shelves or chairs etc, to place dry clean clothes in the wet shower rooms.
    Rusty sinks outside the toilets
The place was very poor, with rubbish lying about, it needs a lot of work to bring this up to scratch.

From the manager...

Thank you Lee for taking the time to leave a review, we are so pleased that you enjoyed our hot showers, we have both inside brick showers and outside gas-powered showers to choose from. Hunstanton Camping 7 Glamping is well located just a 2-minute walk from the beach here on the Norfolk Coast and our back-to-basic campsite has everything you need to enjoy your stay. - Location: It is a short walk to Heacham south beach, which is then a fairly simple, flat walk onto Hunstanton. Or there are very regular buses that stop just down the road from the site.
    - Option for a late checkout. Although this incurs an additional charge, it is useful that you can leave your vehicle onsite and walk down to Hunstanton rather than trying to pay for parking in a suitable spot in town.

    Disliked:

    - It's a pretty grim-looking site, with rubbish and detritus everywhere.
    - Facilities were not very clean, with toilet paper on the floor and generally pretty grim. Showers are pretty much in a barn, but at least it seemed clean.
    - Outside washing up facilities, taps didn't work on two of the three, and there were insects everywhere. It's not overly great when doing your dishes.
    - Price: I could have forgiven some of the above if the site had been cheap. But for one night, and the additional costs it was nearly twice the price of the previous nights camping at a vastly superior site. Either drop the prices or at least tidy up the site.

From the manager...

Thank you Ross for taking the time to leave a review, we are so pleased that you loved our great location here right by the beach. We are ideally located for exploring the Norfolk Coast and beyond and have great transportation links close by. The seaside town of Hunstanton, the Royal Sandringham Estate and BBCs Wild Ken Hill are all easy to get to from Hunstanton Camping & Glamping. We are sorry to here that you found our nature-friendly campsite to be untidy, we do not promote manicured lawns that do not give back tot eh eco system. We hope that any cleanliness issues were reported to housekeeping as they would have been dealt with swiftly of course :)

Very friendly and welcoming staff on site. Small campsite but has all you need - Except maybe a bench to sit on - I arrived as a walker in the rain, was shown to a huge pitch with cover from the wind. A few hours later the rain was coming down heavily and I received a visit from reception checking that I was ok and letting me know if I needed anything drying to see them in the morning. How delightful ! Beach and shop just down the road. 1 night stay in miserable conditions made much brighter by this camp and their staff. 9/10 for the camp 10/10 for the team.

Stayed in the charming Bluebell shepherds hut, with an ever so relaxing hanging chair to unwind in and enjoy the view of the field or stars at night. Nigel was a great host. I wasn't expecting breakfast so a basket of breakfast goodies left on the balcony was a nice surprise. Bluebell and the facilities were clean. Near one of those 'wide' sandy beaches of north Norfolk, great for dog walks in September, and between two RSPB reserves and other attractions.

The site is behind the sea defences: watch out as you head towards the sea. The site is the last farm building on the left-hand side of the road.

From the A149 at King's Lynn, turn left towards Heacham South Beach (Lamsey Lane). Then, turn left again towards the beach and turn left into the campsite when you can see the sea in front of you (roughly 1000 yards before the beach).

Local attractions

Nature fans rejoice, for there's birdwatching galore around here. Make for the RSPB reserve in Snettisham for flocks of birds around the Wash, or for RSPB Titchwell Marsh (20 minutes' drive) to see avocets, marsh harriers and pink-footed geese around its marshlands, reedbeds and freshwater lagoons. Titchwell has a wide sandy beach to investigate too, where scenery seekers can snap far-reaching views across the Wash.

Boating and watersports are easily accessed just down the coast at Hunstanton. The town's also home to the rides of Rainbow Park fairground, and the Sea Life Sanctuary next door where you and curious kids can see seals, penguins, otters and other watery species.

Other recommended options include Norfolk Lavender, five minutes' drive away at Caley Mill, and the 12th-century ruins of Castle Rising (15 minutes), one of the biggest and best preserved keeps in England.
