  • Spacious family-run park with sea views over St Brides Bay
  • A mile from Newgale beach for surfing and other watersports
  • Farm shop on site; pub 20 minutes' walk away
Surfing, hiking, horse riding, coasteering, wildlife spotting… if it’s fresh-air frolics you’re after, the Pembrokeshire coast is a pretty fab pick. And if sea-view sunsets would top that all off nicely, you’ll settle in well at Rainbolts Hill Farm. From this family-run four-acre site there are stunning views out over St Brides Bay, best taken in at the end of the day as the sun dips below the horizon… Naturally, that’s a fab time to crack open a beer and sizzle a few sausages too; barbies are welcome here and there's a farm shop on site selling top-notch local food and craft beers. For more supplies, decent-sized supermarkets are 10 minutes' drive away in Haverfordwest. Welsh weather not all that warm? Cosy up at the cracking country pub 15 minutes' stroll away. Having seen the sea from the site, you’ll no doubt want to take a closer look, and this is a fine location to do so. A 20-minute ramble will take you to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, and the beaches of Newgale, Nolton Haven and Broad Haven are all under 15 minutes away by car. Turn and face inland and you’ll be looking at the Preseli Hills, also a fine place for a scenic hike. However you’ve spent your day, back at base you’ll be staying at a peaceful place (no parties, please) with heaps of space to chill out, as well as top-notch heated bathroom blocks (ladies' and gents', with toilets and showers) to keep everyone spruced up.

Electric optional hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: The site was open in March when most others in the area were closed. The overall site is spacious and flat with several electric hook up points including one on the hardstanding area. The toilet block is modern and clean, and also has electric sockets for hairdryers etc which were very welcome. A lot of money has clearly been spent on this site. It looks well maintained and in good order, especially the holiday cottages on site which look lovely. The area is quiet overall although this is likely to be different in high season. There is a camp shop which was not open during our stay but the site managers are readily available to provide change for the showers or for general help. There is a decent laundry on site with washing machines etc. and free Wi-Fi although this kept dropping out and didn’t have a very strong signal.

Disliked: The hard standing area (with room for 2 camper vans) was firm and large but felt like a bit of an afterthought, tucked in a space between a large storage barn and the bins, and was not at all picturesque. The showers were not included in the cost and required a plentiful supply of 20p pieces for every two minutes of hot water. As we were only there for a couple of nights, this was not a big deal, but maybe offputting to families staying for a week or more as this will add considerable cost to the stay. The toilet block houses two showers and two toilets for men and the same for women, plus an additional three units outside which were locked and we visited, so I can’t be certain whether they contain showers toilets or or both. However, even with these extra facilities, I would question whether there would be enough toilets and showers for a large campsite of this size during busy times. Be aware that some of the pitches against the hedge line are effectively right against the road which is reasonably busy and has the potential to be noisy. There are views of the sea from the campsite, but there isn’t really anything in easy walking distance, so you will need to take a car to go to the beach or shops.

Electric optional hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: Views amazing lovely toilet block

Disliked: Was pitched by large garage which I used all day but completely understand the session is bot in full swing so grateful for any spot. A rain cover would be great over the dish wash station as we are in Wales! Bit of noise from road

Non-electric grass touring caravan pitch

Liked: The location is great, easy access to Pembrokeshire coast national park. Owners are friendly and helpful. The sea view is beautiful.

Disliked: The dishwashing area isn't covered so not ideal when it rains. The washing machine/dryer system, which starts as soon as you put money in, so you need to know what cycle you want to use and make sure it isn't longer than the timer itself, or you need to put more coins in.

Local attractions

Watersports on your Welsh wishlist? Bring your surfboard to Newgale beach to join the regulars, or hire kit if you’re travelling light. Those who haven’t quite mastered the art yet can sign up for surf and kitesurfing lessons here, or join sea kayaking, paddleboarding or coasteering tours. If you're after something a little more leisurely, the family-friendly sands of Broad Haven beach are about 15 minutes’ drive away, or you could don your boots for a ramble along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. Pony rides, lessons and beach or country canters are all on the menu at the local riding stables, 10 minutes away. St Davids, 20 minutes away, is worth a jaunt too: the UK’s smallest city is famed for its cathedral and independent shops, and it’s also the meeting point for boat trips to spot wildlife around Skomer and Ramsey islands (bring the binoculars and keep the peepers peeled for puffins and dolphins).
