  • Spacious family-run park with sea views over St Brides Bay
  • A mile from Newgale beach for surfing and other watersports
  • Farm shop on site; pub 20 minutes' walk away
Surfing, hiking, horse riding, coasteering, wildlife spotting… if it’s fresh-air frolics you’re after, the Pembrokeshire coast is a pretty fab pick. And if sea-view sunsets would top that all off nicely, you’ll settle in well at Rainbolts Hill Farm. From this family-run four-acre site there are stunning views out over St Brides Bay, best taken in at the end of the day as the sun dips below the horizon… Naturally, that’s a fab time to crack open a beer and sizzle a few sausages too; barbies are welcome here and there's a farm shop on site selling top-notch local food and craft beers. For more supplies, decent-sized supermarkets are 10 minutes' drive away in Haverfordwest. Welsh weather not all that warm? Cosy up at the cracking country pub 15 minutes' stroll away. Having seen the sea from the site, you’ll no doubt want to take a closer look, and this is a fine location to do so. A 20-minute ramble will take you to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, and the beaches of Newgale, Nolton Haven and Broad Haven are all under 15 minutes away by car. Turn and face inland and you’ll be looking at the Preseli Hills, also a fine place for a scenic hike. However you’ve spent your day, back at base you’ll be staying at a peaceful place (no parties, please) with heaps of space to chill out, as well as top-notch heated bathroom blocks (ladies' and gents', with toilets and showers) to keep everyone spruced up.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: Site was quiet with a big area in the middle free, kids were playing on it and we had a game of tennis. Staff all lovely and helpful. Toilets and shower block kept really clean. Good location for days out. We went to Tenby, Carew, Pembroke, Broad haven and Saundersfoot. Dog friendly with good walks close by for dogs and the beach not far.

Disliked: Nothing

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: This is a well kept site in a lovely location with views of Roch Castle. The site is easy to find with a lovely welcome when I arrived. There are clean toilet/shower facilities with free WiFi available and there is also a small, on-site shop. It's within walking distance from Newgale beach (a nice, little National Trust path -Southwood Estate- will take you there) and a pub (Victoria Inn Brewhouse).

Disliked: N/A

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Free WiFi , polite receptionist on arrival , shop okay..

Disliked: If you like commune feel , then this will suit you ! Not many people when we arrived , so toilets and showers were clean, then it seemed to go down hill once more people arrived and one day didn’t get cleaned at all, only 2 showers and 2 toilets for whole site ! tents were allowed to pitch any where with no organisation, we had 4 families with 6 tents between them pitched up next to us , they had no consideration , keeping us awake until 1am .. some campers allowed their dogs to roam free so look where you walking. Shame the site owner didn’t occasionally walk round..

From the manager: We are saddened that your stay with us didn't live up to your expectations. If I may correct you on some misleading points you have raised. There are 7 toilets and 7 showers available for the site which by local council standards can accommodate up to 60 pitches; at the time you visited there were only 16 pitches occupied. Our average rating for cleanliness is 9.3 out of 10 following 276 reviews; we take great pride in the cleanliness of our facilities, and we implement a twice daily cleaning regime. Furthermore, we enforce quiet hours between 11pm and 7am, and that dogs must be on leads at all times. Thanks.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Super well maintained site with everything you need. It's on the smaller side but still plenty of space and a lovely shop. Showers are a £1 for 10 minutes. Quiet, friendly site with some traffic noise at night. Lovely view of Roch castle and only a 20 minute walk to a great pub, the Victoria Inn. Overall a lovely stay.

Disliked: Shop was shut whenever I looked but there was a button to press for assistance. I didn't want to bother anyone just for a look around.

Local attractions

Watersports on your Welsh wishlist? Bring your surfboard to Newgale beach to join the regulars, or hire kit if you’re travelling light. Those who haven’t quite mastered the art yet can sign up for surf and kitesurfing lessons here, or join sea kayaking, paddleboarding or coasteering tours. If you're after something a little more leisurely, the family-friendly sands of Broad Haven beach are about 15 minutes’ drive away, or you could don your boots for a ramble along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. Pony rides, lessons and beach or country canters are all on the menu at the local riding stables, 10 minutes away. St Davids, 20 minutes away, is worth a jaunt too: the UK’s smallest city is famed for its cathedral and independent shops, and it’s also the meeting point for boat trips to spot wildlife around Skomer and Ramsey islands (bring the binoculars and keep the peepers peeled for puffins and dolphins).
