  • Secluded and spacious Mongolian yurt at a Dumfries and Galloway farm
  • A 15-minute drive to Kirkcudbright; 20 minutes to local beaches
  • Luxurious glamping with farm walks and wild swims close by
Stunning sunsets, spectacular stargazing, wild swims, farm walks, seaside strolls… if you like the sound of all this wrapped up with a comfy and peaceful outdoor stay, then you’ll need to take a look at Castle Creavie Farm. There's just the one glamping unit at this Dumfries and Galloway farm site, so you’ll have heaps of peaceful space all to yourselves while you’re here – all the better to soak up the views of the gorgeous surroundings or gaze up into the sky. There’s a large secluded decking area with coal barbecue that’s just the place to take it all in – or maybe you'd prefer a wild swim in the pond? If either option leaves you a bit chilly, climb into one of the cosy sitting suits or retreat indoors to look up at the sky through the exposed crown. As for the rest of your accommodation, well, it’s a cracker. You’ll be staying in a luxurious authentic 20-foot Mongolian yurt that’s all set up for self catering in style. A kingsize bed and woodburning stove ensure that you’ll be comfy and cosy at all times (you’ll get a large bag of wood provided, with more available to buy on request) and there’s a private bathroom (with toilet and shower) a short walk from the yurt. As well as the barbecue option you’ll also have an indoor kitchen with a large cool box, an electric camping stove and a whole lot of cooking utensils. Supplies for either indoor or outdoor meals can be picked up at the shops in Kirkcudbright, 15 minutes’ drive away, which also has a good clutch of places to eat out.

Local attractions

There are lots of places nearby to get out for a walk – ask on site and Galloway Forest Park (40 minutes' drive) may well be one of the options offered up for longer trails, with Broughton House & Garden (15 minutes) and Threave Garden (15 minutes) good choices for a more gentle wander. If your idea of a good walk is one that goes from green to green, book yourself some games at Kirkcudbright Golf Course (15 minutes) and Brighouse Bay Golf Course (25 minutes). Meanwhile, if it's all about the seaside scenery, plan trips to places like Balcary Bay, The Dhoon or Red Haven (all 20 minutes). Kids can easily be kept busy at places like Ernespie Farm Park, Cream O’ Galloway ice cream parlour (both half an hour) or Galloway Activity Centre (40 minutes). If it’s a grownup holiday, stop instead for a gin tour at Dark Art Distillery (15 minutes).
