River

General

  • Cosy tipi on a peaceful working dairy farm crossed by the River Wye
  • Over a mile of riverside and river beach for fishing and canoeing
  • Outdoor cinema for watching films under the stars

For a serene stay in the splendid Wye Valley soundtracked by squawking rooks, the distant hum of the milking parlour and cows mooing in the fields beyond, wind your way over to White House On Wye Glamping.

The River Wye winds its way through the farm, giving guests more than a mile of riverside and river beach to explore and relax beside. You can fish, canoe, walk or set up a barbecue on the riverside beach, and there’s also plenty to do in the lands that surround: four golf courses, several National Trust properties, cycling and walking trails and wanders through ancient forests and caves. The owners have also installed an open-air cinema, so guests can sit out under the stars and watch their films during on-site evening downtime.

All the glamping accommodation at the site comes with a guest kitchen, heating, gas and electricity included, and outdoor furniture. For procuring all your picnic supplies and barbecue bits, Ross-on-Wye is a handy short drive away (five miles), and Hereford a little further (10 miles).

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

My partner and I stayed here at the beginning of September. The tipis are situated in a beautiful area, surrounded by farm land. The whole site was set out very nicely with only a few tipis, which kept the area nice and quiet. Facilities were clean and only a very short distance from the accommodation. The site provided frying pans, cutlery, and a camping stove, which meant you did not need to worry about bringing these things with you.

A projector was provided so we could sit and enjoy a film in the evenings.

The area did not have great signal, however this was not missed, as it was nice to escape and disconnect for the few days we were there.

Movie in a box, Private open air cinema facilities for your tipi which was a hit.

Lots of cosy blankets and cushions to snuggle outside with.

Lots of cooking utensils and facilities to use included in your stay.

    Free marshmallows!

    Disliked:

Hundreds of wet cow pats all around the field and tent.

    Overgrown grass with “stingys”.

Owners dog wouldn’t leave us alone for hours, sniffing in our food bags. Didn’t help we have children who are afraid of dogs.

Hunting for projectors for move night that had all working parts (eventually found one plug out of the three projector boxes we opened)

I love the no internet/WiFi etc, but no phone signal was a nightmare.

Lots of utensils and crockery available.

    Disliked:

Flooring of tipi was sodden, everyone had wet feet.
Grass and bushes were overgrown and difficult to walk through.
Seating outside was not as pictured, no cushioning and very hard.
Had to use a blow up bed as camping mat was very uncomfortable.
Poor lighting, no fairy lights around trees as pictured. Had to use tealights (which were provided).

Really fab experience in a beautiful place. We were blessed with perfect weather. We had a few problems with the home cinema equipment as it had not been checked but to be fair to the hosts it was resolved straight away.

    Disliked:

The seating and table outside is very limited.

As a city boy (born and bred in London), I'd never been camping/glamping before and neither had my girlfriend. I've got to say I'm glad I glamped here first. The tipi is beautifully designed, well stocked & the cabin nearby with toilet and bathroom facilities was perfect. The tipi is sturdy and keeps rain out, I know because it rained all night and not a drip got inside. The heater supplied kept the whole tent warm and there were more than enough blankets to wrap around us 5x over. Note: you'll definitely need a car to get around as the nearest pubs can be quite a walk away.

Local attractions

You can go canoeing on the River Wye from right near the site, and four golf courses are within a short drive; the local lakes are plentiful around here, and also provide plenty of fishing opps for keen-as-a-bean anglers.

For pedallers and walkers, several trails begin right near the site; if you’re feeling ambitious, bike along the River Wye right from the site all the way to Hereford, 11 miles away, to join the circular Wye Valley Walk route and continue on to Ross-on-Wye or in the other direction to Hay-on-Wye.

The 20-mile circular Hereford Cider Route is popular for bike rides around here too, taking pedallers past centuries-old apple orchards that now produce more than half of the UK's cider; begin your tour at the train station in Ledbury to pedal past farms such as Scrumpy House and Lyne Down for a wheely fab day out.

There are plenty of splendid heritage spots around here too for a pleasantly cultured day out; visit National Trust-owned Berrington Hall, Brockhampton Estate and Croft Castle, all within around 30 miles, or take a trip to see the 11th-century cathedral over in Hereford.

The Forest of Dean is another cracking day out, and while you’re over that way the twisted trees of ancient woodland, Puzzlewood, and the former iron mines of Clearwell Caves are well worth stopping off at for a potter around.
