  • Family glampsite on the Arga River in spectacular Navarre countryside
  • Pamplona half an hour’s drive; Bardenas Reales Natural Park an hour
  • Heated swimming pools with sauna and spa; snack bar and restaurant
Spectacular mountain scenery, lush hills and a waterside setting… you’ve got the lot at Kampaoh Mendigorría, overlooking the Arga River in hilly Navarre countryside. The glampsite is set between Sierra de Urbasa peaks and the semi-desert landscapes in Bardenas Reales Natural Park, both around an hour’s drive away. On top of all that scenic beauty, you have plenty to keep families, couples and solo travellers more than happy, with a heated indoor pool, sauna and spa, plus an outdoor pool with a water slide and views to the medieval town of Mendigorría sitting on its hilltop. Better still, your holiday starts the moment you arrive on site, as everything is set up and waiting for you in roomy tents sleeping up to six guests. Beds are made up with sheets, pillows and duvets, and your space is cosied up with rugs, storage, tables, chairs and bath towels. Facilities shared with the neighbouring campsite include a playground for toddlers and sports fields for family games, while active types can jump on kayaks from the river pier. Any hunger pangs can be easily combatted with a supply of snacks from the café bar, and more hearty meals are served in the terrace restaurant.

Local attractions

Definitely not to be missed, the stark landscapes of the Bardenas Reales Natural Park (roughly an hour’s drive) have a network of tracks for cycling and hiking across canyons and plateaux to spectacular rock formations. Look out for eagles, vultures and owls soaring in the thermals, while foxes and wildcats can occasionally be spotted in the scrubland. Add a touch of adrenaline to proceedings by renting quad bikes or dune buggies to zoom through the desert wilderness. Turn north for wild swimming spots on the Urederra River (half an hour), or head for Urbasa y Andía Nature Reserve (50 minutes) peaks and follow trails through lichen-and-moss-swathed beach and oak forest to mountain viewpoints. If you’re hankering after a bit of history, Puente de la Reina (10 minutes) is a major crossroads on the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route and is approached via the soaring stone arches of an 11th-century Romanesque-style bridge. Further north is Pamplona (half an hour), with the delightful Casco Viejo old town to explore as well as ornate Santa Maria Cathedral and Roman mosaics in the Navarre Museum.
